Hi,
After installing the new Premiere Pro I haven't been able to drag and drop MP4 files into the software like I had been able to in the past. Files that worked just fine for me in previous projects now look like the picture below when I try and play them.
Has anyone else run into this problem or know a solution?
Thanks

What's your OS? Video card and setup?
What's that media from ... camera, screen-capture, phone/device, what?

The media is an mp4 file that I downloaded from youtube.
Thank you,

How about downloading the free MediaInfo app, and after you've got the icon for that on your desktop, drag/drop one of these files on that icon. When it pops up, go into that app's "Tree View" ... make a screen grab, and post that in your reply. Curious what this is ...

Ann's reason for converting in Handbrake is that this is a variable frame-rate clip ... VFR. PrPro still needs constant frame-rate, or CFR.
So ... in Handbrake, the Video tab, click the circle by "CFR", then set a specific number value in the Frame-rate box as if you leave the auto setting it still puts out VFR exports.
You'll also probably want to move the bit-rate settings closer to "placebo" so it doesn't massively recompress the media.

-Thanks all for your help, I'll try this out.
I'm still curious though why I had no problems dragging and dropping these type of files before the upgrade.

A couple things ... the ones before might not have been VFR ... and with the changes in code from one major build series to the next (2017 is 11.x, 2018 is 12.x) there can be changes in this sort of thing.

One more thing, this MP4 video was part of a project I was working on in Premiere Pro before the upgrade that had other MP4 clips that I had exported from photoshop. All of the clips were working fine in PremierePro until the upgrade. Now they all play like the picture I posted above.

Huh. That's puzzling.

Hmmm, going through handbrake didn't do anything either.

That's really ... puzzling.
Mp4 directly from a "regular" camera ... does that work in your rig?

-Nope, same outcome.

Was that from a phone, or from say a DSLR or something?

-It was taken with a Canon EOS 5D camera. The file was a .MOV actually, i'll convert to MP4 and try again.

At this point, I would suggest downloading the Adobe CC Cleaner Tool, and using that to uninstall/clean-up PrPro and then reboot the computer.
From the CC Desktop app, download a fresh copy of the app, install, then reboot.
Start up PrPro, and see if it works as it should. Given that you've got troubles with mp4 and even mov from 'standard' cameras, this is what I'd do.

Convert with Handbrake first then bring it into Premiere.
