New Here ,
Mar 20, 2020 Mar 20, 2020

I had a whole project saved and finally got it to open but i'm not able to click on anything in the program. All the files have "?" on them but i'm not able to click on anything to relink the files. I tried restarting the program a few times and still no luck!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try an autosave or backup.

You can also try creating a new project and importing the old one into it.

It sounds like your project is having some issues! There are a number of reasons that you may not be able to Click or Right-Click on the icons and files in your Project.  I've had a similar issue with the newest version. Before continuing, what Operating System are you working in? How much RAM Memory and space do you have your OS and/or Media Hard Drive? Here are some possible info related to your issues:

  • NOT ENOUGH RAM MEMORY: If you are running out of memory due to not enough RAM some apps can freeze up or lose a certain amount of functionality.
  • PROBLEMS WITH YOUR HDD/SSD: If you are running out of room on your drives OS or MEDIA there can be major issues as well. Make sure you have plenty of headroom.
  • CORRUPT APPLICATION INSTALL: You may new to reinstall Premiere using the Creative Cloud app. If you are still having issues, you can do a more "thorough" install by using the Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool--which has been known to fix many corruptions and issues with Adobe applications in general. (Link)
  • HARDWARE ISSUES RUNNING PREMIERE: You also may want to check out that your video card is updated and that all the minimum requirements to run Premiere are there.
  • OS ISSUES: There are also known issues with some of the Adobe applications and the latest Mac OS Catalina. I have been having many issues with Catalina with Premiere, Photoshop and a few others. I've fewer issues on Windows on the current release. On a Mac, we rolled the OS back to the last OS (though things are getting updated).
  • TRICKY PANELS & WINDOWS: Occasionally, applications may get confused or windows and panels may pop up "behind" key parts of the application and give you the illusion that nothing is clickable. Sometimes minimizing Premiere and bringing it back up can cause invisible windows to reappear. Also, look at the edges of your application and the windows available in your DOCK or TASKBAR. Sometimes an extra error popup or another window my be preventing access to parts of your application.
  • INTERFERING APPLICATIONS: Clickability can also be affected by 3rd party applications and plugins which may interfere with Premiere's functionality. Make sure to use the elimination method to uninstall or disable suspected apps. If you are not sure which ones could be an issue, uninstall all of them and one by one reinstall them and make note of Premiere's functionality after each one.

On a separate note, it looks like you are having issues with missing media? In case you don't know: Relinking Media can be done by selecting one or more clips and Right-Click and got to LINK... The Link and Locate media is quite robust and can easily auto search volumes and connect clips.

To prevent getting the Missing Media (?) symbol, its best to direct your files into a more organized folder structure. An example would be to create one Master Project Folder, and then within that folder you would be subfolders that would contain your Projects and Media to keep everything together. If you don't do this, you can dedicate an entire drive to a specific project and its media. If you have any questions, happy to help! Good luck.
