Using nested sequences as source for match frame and text based editing

I am trying to find a fast workflow to use an automated sequence with all my footage as a source.

As I always use all four audio tracks of my sony fx3, I need to select the right audio channels ONCE while previewing and logging and from then on automatically use those selected channels for every clip when I edit.

So the way to go seems to automate all clips into a sequence, then delete the audio tracks that are not necessary while previewing and add colored markers.

Now I can use this sequence as a source and just continue working, BUT when I hit "match frame" later on, it always brings me to the corresponding source clip, not the source timeline. (which is to be expected).

Does it make sense, to somehow "nest" this sequence so its seen as a clip?

How can I do that and does it impose some problems later on?

In the past I had some trouble using nested sequence in premiere, but thats long ago.

And someone mentioned that you can even use "text based editing" on nested sequences. Maybe I can transcribe the sequence mixdown so all the tracks that I really need are used. But I cannot find an explanation how to do it. Thanks for all your help so far!

I see.. I think I loose the ability to edit all the separate audio tracks in my main sequence when I insert it as a nest. I would have to go into every single clip and alter audio there... Is that true? Thats surely not an option.

If I understand what you're doing ... I've seen people with the "nest or not" icon in the Timeline panel turned off, grab sections from other sequences which come in as regular clips. In fact, a lot of people doing "pancake" editing do that, grab this segment drag/drop to the Editing timeline below.

You still have match frame to the original clip frame.

Thats exactly my workflow issue right now. In FCPx you can do everything very easily in the Clip Browser: Select and deselect audio tracks for preview (not like in premiere where you mute them in a submenu) and editing for every clip and add range markers that show up on the clip icons in "film strip view". So clips are like a huge timeline there - with just way easier access..

Now going back to premiere I have to work in an automated source sequence to achieve the same: Deleting the audio channels I dont need and adding markers. BUT as soon as I match frame all this is gone. I am directed to a clip with ALL audio channels activated so I cannot hear the talent speaking and I dont have access to all my markers anymore.. So "match frame" essentially becomes useless, which is not a good thing when you have to work with about 30 hours of footage.

As this involves multi channel audio, @Jarle Leirpoll might be useful ...
