Video keeps stopping, eventually Premiere crashes

Hi

I am having trouble with crashes, running 14.0.4 on Mac OS 10.14.6. I will be playing a clip, and the video freezes, but the audio keeps going. I can't stop playback. Finally, playback stops and the playhead jumps back to wherever the video froze. Eventually, all my buttons stop working and the various windows get psychedelic discolorations. My pulldown menus become empty, so it's hard even to shut down. This problem then carries over to all the other software I am running. Force Quit does not show up as an option. It's pretty much a system meltdown. I have been working on the same project for a month, and this has not been an issue. This week, I updated the Creative Cloud and all the software, and also installed an OS security update. Perhaps related?

I thought maybe I had to toggle proxies, but they were already toggled. My memory allocation seems fine.

bmin,

Sounds pretty crazy! Not normal, for sure. Can you give us a bit more info on your system hardware (CPU/GPU/RAM/Media Drive/Connectivity) and the type of media you are using?

Thanks,
Kevin

Hi! Thanks for the reply. I am working on a 2015 13" Macbook Pro with an i7 chip and Intel Iris Graphics 6100 1536 MB graphics card. I am hooked up to an external monitor and an external drive through Thunderbolt adapters.

I cleared out the media cache, and things ran smoothly for a bit. And then went all weird on me again. Here are some screen grabs from today: IMG_3191.jpgIMG_3192b.jpg

My whole system basically becomes impossible to use. Drop down windows become all blank, so it becomes difficult to restart my system without just hard rebooting. All of my other apps go weird as well.

This is after a month or so of everything working just fine. I did recently update Premiere, and install a security update on my computer.

Media Drive: G-Technology G-RAID 24TB 2-Bay Thunderbolt 3 RAID Array (2 x 12TB)
*Formatted as JBOD
**All raw media, attached proxies and project files are located on this external drive.

Type of Media: MXF, MOV, MP4, WAV

Our project was set up using the link below as a guide. To sum it up... First, we created proxies for all raw media. Next, we utilized the "Create Multi-Camera Source Sequence" to batch sync the video and audio clips. Finally, we took these sync'd files and used the "Merge Clips" feature to create new clips. This Merged Clip Editing set-up/workflow has worked well for us on several different machines up until this point.

Please let me know if you need any other information.

Hi Kevin,

bmin and I are working together and I can answer a couple of those questions.

Media Drive  - G-RAID 24TB 2-Bay Thunderbolt 3 RAID Array (2 x 12TB) - ((formated as JBOD))

*ALL project files, raw media and proxy's are located on this external drive

Type of Media - MXF, MOV, MP4, WAV

Not sure if this helps but we used the link below as a guide for syncing audio and setting up the project. To sum it up, we created proxys for everything. Then we batch synced footage and audio utilizing the "Create Multi-Cam Source Sequence" and finally, we took the syncd media and used "Merge Clips" to create new clips. This Merged Clip Editing workflow/set-up has worked great for us up until this point.

Please let me know if there's any other information that would be helpful. Appreciate your time!

Thanks!
