Videos not exporting with background transparency in Premiere Pro

Hello everyone,

I have made a Like, Subscribe, and Notification video with sound effects for youtube. When importing the video into a different video making software, the background SHOULD be transparent, but instead is black and covers the other parts of that section of video that is intended to be seen. How do I properly export videos so that they have a transparent background, as to allow the other visuals to be seen? It doesn't matter what program I import it into, it still doesn't have transparency. Screen shot of it in Premiere Elements for an example. I'm also not sure how to make the background green to just do a green screen effect, but I would like to stay away from green screen if at all possible, as it ruins the appearance of the video.

Mp4 does not hold transparency.  Mov with animation codec does, or Prores/Cineform with alpha.

If a background is green, it means the shot is made in front of a green cloth.

I am not sure how to export this file from Premiere Pro as a .mov file. When changing the file name from .mp4 to .mov, the name changes back to a .mp4 file extension.

Also, you moved this question to Premiere Elements. It was meant for Premiere Pro, as my question has nothing to do with elements. It has to do with Premiere Pro. Please move it back to the Premiere Pro forum. Thanks.

I don't think changing the file name will change the extension; to export as .mov, choose 'QuickTime' as the format instead of 'H.264'. That should work!

Well, now it exports to .mov, but upon importing the file into the editing software, it now gets thrown into the audio track... Attempting to open the file to view it results in an error message that the codec isn't supported, but I know for a fact, the .mov codec is indeed installed.

If you want to stay with mp4, and so long as your 'different video making software' has a decent green-screen removal tool, it might be the easiest solution to just create a rectangle, color green, sized to fit your composition, put it behind all your other layers, and export like that.

Then in your other software (it might help if you said which software it was), choose the green-screen tool and get rid of the background green in order to get your desired transparency!

I am primarily using Premiere Elements, but have been testing it with all sorts of different programs such as final cut, kdenLive, etc.

I'm not sure how to create shapes and such with P-Pro. The tutorial I followed, doesn't go into that. I am attempting to create this thing and export it before my P-Pro trial expires.

I'm trying to get access to the english version of Premiere (Now on french), as soon as I manage I'll explain how to create a rectangle. You could try searching on google 'create rectangle in premiere pro', you might find what you need.

Screenshots of the processus in french version, in case you manage to find your way with them...

'File', then 'New'

And then 'Color Matte' (I'm not sure whether that's what it is in english)

You'll then get this panel:

Leave the settings as they are, or adjust if the size isn't right in order to fill in your composition, and then click 'OK', you'll get this panel:

Choose a greenish colour, click 'OK', name it with the next panel that pops up: 

Click 'OK' and you've got a green rectangle!

It'll appear with your other project files,

Move everything else up, and then you'll just have to drag it into the timeline under everything else.

All this depends on whether the program you use can take away green screens, of course.
