Hi All,
I have a need to perform Warp Stabilization and also replace with an After Effects composition.
I have noticed that if I apply Warp Stabilization to a clip in Premier Pro before selecting replace with After Effects composition, After Effects wants to again stabilize the clip.
This brings ups the question, when is the best time apply Warp Stabilization:
Hope this question makes sense.
Look forward to everyone's help with this question.

Personally, Donald, I like to preprocess all clips that need Warp Stabilizer prior to my edit session. I usually use AE to apply the effect and then queue up all the clips in Media Encoder. I process the clips to an intermediate codec so that I can maintain a "smart rendering" workflow. I also sometimes add a LUT for basic color correction. With stabilization and basic color correction already in place, I can work much faster and render less when exporting.
Thanks,
Kevin

Hi Kevin,
Thanks for taking the time to write. Does this mean that you are applying stabilization in After Effects or after you return the After Effects composition to Premier Pro then apply stabilization in Premier Pro?

Don,

I always stabilize (and do a basic color correction) in After Effects, queue them to AME, export them as ProRes (I'm on Mac). Then I import the resulting ProRes files in Premiere Pro. A bit unconventional, but that's the way I roll.
Many people would do everything directly in Premiere Pro at the point of stabilizing when they see the need. I always know ahead of time if I'm going to need stabilization as I review all my footage before even importing it. It allows me to work with clips that are already prepped as I'm editing them.
Cheers,

Hi Kevin,
Thank you again for giving me your strategy. That helps me a lot.
Another question for you. Do you develop motion tracking before or after stabilization?

Hey Don,
I stabilize, then track. More info: Tracking and stabilization motion workflows in After Effects
Thanks,

I recommend sending only unaltered clips to AE. Add all your effects there, or to the linked comp in PP.

Hi Jim,
Thank you for your input. Why do you make this recommendation?

Not all effects transfer over. Those that don't get lost. Sending a clean, unmodified clip has the best chance of working as desired.
