Hi Jessica,

There is a Pr 13.1.1 patch released yesterday which addresses this issue. Please update to 13.1.1 and let us know if it helps.

Fixed issues in Premiere Pro versions 13.1.1 and 13.1

This might be related to the hardware responsible for rendering. However there is many things that can lead to such error and crashes.

We need to know the following in order to better help you.

What is your full system specs? what is your storage configuration (how many hard drives, where is everything stored: OS, software, media, cache, exports, etc.)

What are your export settings? where are you exporting?

What is the nature of the media you are dealing with? where are those stored?

At what point does the crash happen? render? export? playback? etc.

What are you render settings? ( Project settings --> General) Take a screenshot and post it.

I am experiencing the same issue, regardless of the renderer that I choose:

I am experiencing the same issue, and the only elements being used are native premiere pro titles, and JPG images that I've been using in premiere pro since the dawn of time without any issue.

Please include me in your notification process... I am under a deadline to get a project completed and need to get this resolved OR a way to revert back to older version that did not have these issues.

Thanks in advance for you help.

Try relocating your project file, or renaming the folder that contains the project file.

Hey there. I'm in middle of re-install. Going to see if that helps. If not, then i'll try relocating the project file. Thanks for the suggest.

I have the same issue since the latest update. First time the solution was removing a jpg from my project. This time around I'm unsure of the answer. Very frustrating if this is going to keep happening. I wish I hadn't updated.

The solution in each of my cases has been to delete jpg images out of my project. I tried replacing with png files instead but Premiere still kept crashing. My only option was to screenshot the jpg image I needed in my project and import that to use instead! Far from ideal but the only option I had as I needed to complete the project. Really need a better answer going forward though.

I shouldn't have called it a "solution" really. More of a bodge job! Definitely only a temporary fix. Need answers please Adobe!

Same problem here. It won't let me render out the project and crashed once while scrubbing through material. This project is 99% as a project I have updated every month for two years. This is an unacceptable problem.

I lost so much sleep and time over this, but I finally managed to resolve this yesterday night. I have a feeling every case is a little different given what I went through - there's no silver bullet here - but it's horrible that Adobe isn't providing any meaningful guidance.

What's 100% clear is that the upgrade to 13.1 is corrupting files and/or transitions within projects that worked in previous versions, such as 13.0.3, which is what I was last in before the upgrade and my project was perfectly stable with no problems in that version.

If I'm honest, probably the simplest thing to do if you can is go back to 13.0.3 and stay there until 13.1 stabilizes - they released this update way too early and it is not stable. In my case, I was able to re-open previous versions of my project in 13.0.3 without any issues. Unfortunately someone else working on the project was running 13.1 and did some edits, so my options were to fix the problem in 13.1 or redo all the edits in the old version - so I focused on trying to resolve and if that didn't work I was going to have to go back and re-edit.

Here's how I resolved my problem, which I first detected when trying to export a sequence.

  • Within the project I rendered small sections (5-8 minutes at a time) of the sequence using render in to out. It was pretty clear in my case that the problem was in the second half of the project because the export kept failing in the same spot and crashing with the error we've all listed above.
  • I kept an eye on the renders while they were happening so I could see when it failed. This allowed me to isolate the area in the sequence that was a problem.
  • NOTE: In my case anyhow, if you put the play head on the problem elements in the sequence, it will crash again - I wasn't expecting that. So when you re-open, make sure not to put the play head on the elements that are crashing or the whole thing will crash again.
  • For my project, the problem area was a small grouping of 4 JPGs and a Push transition. I had no way of knowing if it was the images or the transition, so I just deleted the images and the transition.
  • Out of an abundance of caution, given a comment above about JPGS, I changed the 4 images to TIFs. I then rebuilt that small section of the sequence from scratch. I was nervous about putting another push transition in, but apparently if I put it in from 13.1 it won't corrupt - at least it hasn't for now.
  • I will say I have tons of other JPGs in the project, so in my case, simply having JPGs in the project was not the issue.

I don't know that this will help everyone on this thread, but hopefully it will help some of you. I find Adobe's non-response just horrible.

Abode / Nariman Sodeifi - provide guidance to your customers, saying you're investigating is not a "Correct Answer" to anyone's question, particularly when their entire projects are crashing!
