Open Subtitling is a special type of closed caption. Open Captions is not a closed caption, and is generally used to burn in subtitles with a wide range of text styles. Both can be used to create sidecar files.

A sidecar file is one that is exported as a separate file (srt; scc) rather than burned in or embedded.
