An option to revert the Mouse scroll change Program Monitor

In the latest 24.4 version of Premier Pro, you can zoom in and out by mouse-scrolling on the program monitor.

This is good for those who want to add effects precisely but not for editing at a fast speed

I really hope there's a way to revert the change so my productivity goes back to 100%

I want to scroll in time with mouse wheel while I am manipulating masks and position in the program monitor. Moving my mouse defeats the purpose. I hate how the needs of broadcast video editors is just thrown away. Been trying to cope but even month later, this is crazy. little by little, it feels like the Final Cut X debacle.

"I hate how the needs of broadcast editors is just thrown away ... "

A common human thing is to assume others do as you do. Learn to drop that assumption.

No editor on the planet does everything the way you do ...period. One of the most fascinating things to do at NAB every year is to go to the tradeshow floor, and get into discussions with others about workflows.

Everyone always does everything differently. It's amazing, and fascianating. I've learned a ton doing so.

So you ... and truthfully, me ... don't appreciate that change. But don't dismiss the million or more other users, many in broadcast, that love it. Because the way they work, it's faster and/or simpler for them.

I always ask for the options for users to choose such behaviors. Because we all work differently.

Horrible change that annoys me everytime I have to use this software. Completely baffling.

Honest question: On average, how many upvotes and complaining comments are necessary to achieve critical mass to get back to original functionality or a simple checkbox in the settings?

@R Neil Haugen  what are you talking about? I am sorry, but I'm really starting to believe that you are paid by adobe to be on their side. I am a broadcast editor for over 15 years, most of this time I've spent editing News. Nobody loves this changes in my town. Not one of my colleagues, or my ex collegues from other stations. We have an whatsapp group where we are over 40 editors. It's our way to have a community, to share inspiration, talk about software or movies. Most of us didn't update the software because the new features mostly are gimmicks and does not balance how bad the change was. I never heard an editor saying, oh, that change was great.

But, by all means, I will keep an open mind - Please, do enlight us, do you know someone? Can you get a quote why does he loves this change? How it improves his workflow, how it's faster and/or simpler for them? On what task they are using it? Maybe I am shortsighted and I fail to see the value, maybe this will be a learning experience for me.

And for the love of Jesus Christ, why can't we have them both? Why don't they put an update to have a small box in settings to change the behaviour?

This feature really give me the impression that was proposed by someone in a meeting, who doesn't know how to edit, who had to say something because was asked by his boss or something, and as a quick ideea he came with something that saw work in AE

This feature has been on the wish list for some years now and vote up by a lot of users.

https://community.adobe.com/t5/premiere-pro-ideas/zooming-into-monitors-using-alt-scroll/idi-p/13515...

The link says 2023 but goes back a lot further when it was still User Voice.

I love this feature but then again I am not a broadcast editor.

An option to turn it on/off would be fine by me.

And I totally, 1000% agree with having ALT or any other modifier do that as the wish list said. But they decided to replace completely a feature.

"The ability to zoom into the program/source monitor by ALT + scrolling into the specific location of the pointer (like in Photoshop and Illustrator). You can already do this in the timeline, but in the monitor for some reason this doesn't work"

^^^^^^ -

In my previous message I meant to quote the feature from the wish list and not the OP message but I cannot edit my post or I do not know how.

In the beta Adobe change the zoom to alt+scroll and ctrl+scroll.

Scroll has been changed to up/down.

If you have a second scroll wheel > left/right.

You cannot edit your post until you have posted quite a few posts. (due to spammers).

Having posted about this before and re-reading many of the posts here, you'd think that even if there are Premiere users who love the scrolling function - for the record I don't know a single one - the intense negative feedback from critics warrant making it a switch on/off function.

Simple. Thanks, engineers. Look forward to switching it off in upcoming non-Beta version.

@Ann Bens thank you for your replies. Can you please share when are you using the zoom? I am asking because maybe I am missing something out? In my workflow it's rarely usefull, maybe when you need to do some masks and then using ALT or CTRL like in PS will be great.

@MariusRusu

I use a lot of masks e.g. removing objects or color correction, straitening out horizons, or adjusting buildings (perspective), checking focus.

Like to zoom in with the aid of guides to see if I have done things correctly.

One of the joys for me in going to NAB every year, is simply visiting in the aisle of the tradeshow with so many other video post people.

Why?

Everybody does everything differently!

Seriously ... I've never been in any discussion at an NAB since 2014, where two people worked alike for the same type of job.
