Choosing subtitle track for export

Explorer ,
Apr 09, 2025 Apr 09, 2025

1. Need choose option in window File - Export - Captions for subtltles

2. In the export tab, I can't select export ONLY subtitle tracks, only audio + subtitles or video + subtitles. This is very inconvenient.
3. I also need a function to export all tracks one by one in 1 click to srt or another format (C2 on the timeline - file 1, C1 - file 2, etc.)

@Lev_3q9048,

I support more flexiblity. Following are my comments on the current functionality. With the 25.2 update, features added include caption track translation (multiple languages in one step) and enabling of multiple caption tracks. And no question: if I have 6 caption tracks, each in a different language, I'd want to be able to issue one command to export all 6.

But for now, only one sidecar can be exported at a time. I have not determined which track of multiples is being selected.

File -> Export -> Captions exports a sidecar for a caption track from a sequence selected in the timeline or the Project Panel. It will be greyed out if you select a sequence with no caption tracks.

The type of sidecar depends on the type of caption track: Subtitle format only allows export of SRT. EBU format allows XML, STL, and SRT.

Still looking at this.

@Lev_3q9048,

I forgot to upvote this. Now there's one!

Adding a function to export multiple sidecars is important now that there are translations and multiple enabled tracks.

After more testing in PR 25.2.3 and Beta 25.4.0.40, here's what I see regarding which ONE track is currently selected with Subtitle format and SRT sidecar export:

  1. Only one sidecar file can be exported at a time, and only one caption track can be exported in a sidecar file.
  2. Important: The caption track to be exported is the one that shows in the Text panel/captions tab. This is determined by which tracks are enabled and which tracks have one or more caption segments selected. Track targeting does not appear to have any effect.
  3. The Captions tab shows "Multiple caption tracks enabled" with a new icon and message if a) multiple caption tracks are enabled AND b) no caption segments are selected OR caption segments from Multiple tracks are selected.
  4. The Captions tab shows "No captions available" if a) no caption tracks are enabled AND b) no caption segments are selected OR caption segments from Multiple tracks are selected.
  5. For those two conditions (No captions available and Multiple tracks enabled), the 3 dots -> Export menu and the File -> Export -> Captions are greyed out.
  6. The other conditions result in a caption track showing in the Captions tab:
    • If one caption track is enabled, with no or any segments selected, the enabled track shows;
    • If no caption tracks are enabled, with one or more segments selected in one track, the track with selections shows; and
    • If no caption tracks are enabled or multiple caption tracks are enabled, with one or more segments selected in ONE track.
  7. For Text Panel/Captions tab -> 3 dot/hamburger menu -> Export -> SRT, the caption track to be exported is the one that shows in the Text panel/captions tab.
  8. File -> Export -> Captions appears to have a bug. As expected, it is not greyed out when a track shows in the Captions tab. But it exports the highest numbered caption track (last added) without regard to what is enabled/selected. For example, if there are 3 caption tracks (C1, C2, and C3), and only C2 is enabled and only C1 has a segment selected, the SRT export is from track C3.

File -> Export -> Media allows export of sidecar, with a dropdown to pick one track, default C1. The dropdown shows the track number and name.
