[Moderator: This thread was originally titled "Premiere Pro 24.4 Program Monitor Scrolls". It's been updated to make this thread easier to find. We appreciate - and are listening to! - your feedback on scrolling / panning in the Program Monitor]

I just noted after the 24.4 update, My source & Program monitor up & down rollers/scrolls on the sides just vanished or missing. Not sure if this still part of the zoom in, zoom out or use of hand tool new updates which has cause this to be removed or a bug - but, kindly let me know if anyone has experienced this issue. The screengrab below.

Hello Community,

Please also upvote this bug: https://community.adobe.com/t5/premiere-pro-ideas/ability-for-disable-program-monitor-zoom-settings/idc-p/15089641.

It's for the ability to turn the feature off to prevent unwanted incidental screen zooming. This thread seems to ask for multiple things, so it may be confusing which Idea to upvote. I say, upvote them both.

@Mojo Edit, since you creeated this post, what is the feature request you'd like to see here?

What a bad decission... I have to downgrade premiere to a previous versions due to this "feature". I don't want to change zoom all the time... but insted i want to move with mouse wheel while editing (for example, while setting mask nodes). What about letting the user to choose that behaviour (an option in timeline settings, or with a modifier key like ALT or SHIFT)? It is very important for my everyday work, and I guess a lot of people don't need zooming program monitor with mouse wheel.

Trying to find anything about scrolling in the program monitor at this link and I don't see anything about it... Is this link still up to date? A screenshot or direct link to this specific feature update would be helpful.

Please mark this as the actual correct answer, using the H tool or middle mouse button seems to be the only way to achieve the requested result.

There's been a lot of requests to add the ability to zoom the program monitor rather than requiring using the mouse to click. They added two functions, so now:

1) scrolling the mouse over the Program monitor scrolls the image magnification;

2) scrolling the mouse over the sliding bar section of the Program Monitor timeline control changes how much the timeline is 'expanded' in the view of it in the Program monitor; and

3) scrolling the mouse in the Timeline area of the Program monitor 'jogs' up or back on the timeline itself.

While having more options is normally good, this is frustrating for many users. And no, it isn't documented yet.

@Ann Bens - thanks for this suggestion, but to be honest the beta is a bit overwhelming and I'm just trying to get jobs turned around as efficiently as possible. I don't have the time to learn new things that may or may not be implemented in the upcoming updates. I don't think it's unreasonable for Adobe to publish a full list of changes for each update (and they've promised to do this in the past, but still aren't doing it) - but I do think it's unreasonable they'd expect us to join the beta testing (when we're already paying a premium to use the product) just to find out which changes may or may not eventuate. There's got to be a better way of staying abreast of changes without becoming an unpaid play-tester.

That's my experience, too: zooming in and out. No panning. Zippo. Doesn't matter if I use the hand tool, the mouse, the wacom or the MBPro trackpad. Panning is a mission-critical tool. Please bring it back.

Hey Paul,

Sorry for the issue. Do you see this problem in Premiere Pro 24.5? If possible, please share a screen recording with us. That will help us better understand the problem.

Thanks,

Ishan

ADOBE please let us out of this mouse scroll zoom in the Program window. My Magic mouse and fat fingers are driving me crazy!

I've added a keyboard shortcut for "Zoom monitor to Fit" to be able to quickly get my monitor back after I've zoomed around the universe with my magic mouse! lol

@Mike McCarthy OK but why does Premiere have to be different from other Adobe apps for the same function? Premiere is part of a suite of apps, it's your strength!

For example, why isn't the hand tool a toggle like all other hand tools? Why doesn't the pen/masking tool look/work identically to Photoshop? There are millions of examples - ya know?

Adobe isn't a single brand strategy like Mars or Snickers, Adobe is part of leveraged brand stragety like Cadbury Flake, Cadbury Twirl, Cadbury Picnic etc.

So if you keep letting app teams go in different directions, we might as well use apps from different developers. And with the recent corporate nonsense, many of us are ready to migrate - so silly right?

the saying- don't fix it if isn't broke-

some "genius" thinks he's smarter than millions of unsatisfied users who are going to move to another product. Why not keep the scroll bar and use the the third button as well, best of both worlds ?

Would it be difficult for Adobe to offer scrollbars or not as a user preference item?

Sorry - so am I missing something here ? in MacOS (Sonoma), how do I scroll around the program window content when it is zoomed larger than "fit", assuming I don't have a three-button mouse plugged into my computer ? I can't work out how to do it ! If I select the hand tool, that actually moves the content around (i.e. whatever video layer I have selected), it doesn't scroll my "view" of the program window, if that makes sense ...

... also - even once I found a three-button mouse to try to get the scrolling in the program window working (it sorta worked), it broke as soon as I started using multiple monitors - was it really that big a deal having those scroll bars there ? This feels like a giant leap backwards, at least for Mac users

Yep, that what it does, ie: the Hand tool, it "actually moves the content around".

It seems you're using the word 'scroll' to mean move thru the timeline. With the new way it works, it's for zooming in or out of the monitor, like for seeing things in the the frame. So, when you zoom in, you then use the hand tool to look, say, at one-corner or the other. Or zooming in and checking things in a mogrt or such.

If you put your mouse over the timeline of the monitor, you can scroll down or up the timeline, like the whole monitor was before.

I think it's a very good change.

This is what I have been doing temporarily since the loss of the scroll bars. It works.... but it take a lot more accumulative time. If you're zoomed in above like 150% - everytime you want to move around the screen, you have to hit an extra key than you did before. It definitely seems to me like a incomplete thought-out implementation.

I agree with everybody that eliminating the scroll bars -- even just as an option to toggle back on -- was incredibly stupid of Adobe.

The hand tool doesn't even behave productively like it does in Adobe's own Photoshop!  There's no way to temporarily scroll around in the program monitor by holding down something like the spacebar in Photoshop - forcing us to change pointer modes back and forth is hilariously counterproductive.  (I refuse to reassign my scroll wheel button just for Adobe.)

Hey there!

If the problem is to center or focopointing the Time Line monitor on a 1600% zoomed in detail (my main problem at first sight), you have to use the hand tool icon from now on to move the screen to the right position.

If that's not the problem? Sorry, but there you are I suppose...

Yeah you're absolutely right. I've been adjusting by switching between the pointer and the hand tool to move around the frame. It's cumbersome though, and adds like.... 4x the amount of keystrokes and clicks that I would initially make in the same project. Again - these "improvements" or "feature additions" are very tiresome

I have been using Premiere Pro for a while and since the last update I cnnot just zoom in on a clip in the editing panel and move it around with my mouse to make a mask more precise. I can only zoom in on the clip with the mouse scrolling but it will stay centred and I cant move the image around so I can mask a certain area of that clip. I have tried everything and for the life of me I cant figure it out! I use to have scroll tabs on the side of the editing window so I could move the image around but they are not there anymore. Please help! Is driving me crazy and I really need these masks to be precise for this stop motion video for a client!

I agree!!

How about implementing a fast scrolling through the cursor  tool pointers function using a key stroke and the mouse wheel for the next upgrade?

That would be great and save a lot of time. A LOT of time.

A lot of people using the CC-suite are contractors working  on deadlines and charging by the hour, so time is litterary money and could be the difference of making a deadline or not.

Thinking of all the new fantastic features over the past years it seems like a small and simple thing to do, but sometimes small and simple things can be crucial...

Take care everyone!
