Dynamic Link Broken with Premiere CC2020 Update

Hello,

Just updated to CC 2020 for Premiere and After Effects, and now my AE linked compositions show as media offline. I right click on the files to link media, select the appropriate .aep file and then get another error message that says After Effects must be installed in order to link the media. It is installed, and I'm able to open the .aep file in After Effects 2020, and have saved a new copy of the project file. I've cleared the media cache in Premiere, but continue to get the error message. I'd rather not have to export all the individual clips from After Effects and import them into Premiere.

Update: I spoke with someone from Adobe through the online chat support, and got an easy fix. With all of my adobe apps closed, located the "Dyanmic Link Media Server" folder on my computer (mine was under the Adobe folder in Documents). Renamed the folder to "Dynamic Link Media Server OLD", then restarted the computer. Once everything rebooted, I opened up Adobe Premiere, and opened the old CC2019 project file. It asked me to save a new version of the project, which I did and all of my AE linked Comps could now be viewed and edited within the CC2020 project file.

I'm also having an issue with (I'm guessing) Dynamic Link Manager.

I'm trying to import one sequence into a new project (prpro 2020, mac)

It's endlessly loading but the list of sequences never appears.

The solution suggested here sadly didn't work for me. Had the same problem in 2019 version.

can you open the old project rather than trying to import a sequence from it?   can you open the ae project?

So frustrating.  No solution presented so far works.  It's so frustrating that I keep trying, and nothing works.
It just seems random.  Seems like some people try something, the media server all of a sudden works, and they think that "something" solved it.
I installed an old Photoshop, updated my OS, uninstalled Photoshop, installed multiple versions again, deleted all dynamic link files, reset all preferences, restarted a million times and voila!  NOTHING is different and I can't open my files still.

I finally solved this.  It took a full Adobe Suite uninstall with a specialist who could find all of the hidden files the uninstaller can't find.  I tried everything else first, and nothing helped.  I spent hours with Adobe support and they weren't helpful.  But a super clean FULL Adobe Suite uninstall and fresh re-install did it.  There go my plugins, presets and automations, but such is life sometimes.  I am still quite upset, but at least my videos load now.

Was this using the Adobe CC Cleaner Tool?

Your solution doesn't do any good here I'm afraid ...

So I created a bug report here:

Please vote this up!

Yes! If Premiere Project have Dynamic Links to more than one AE project, it will only load the link to the project that is curently loaded in AE, and will completely lose touch with other projects. So it's like new rule of using Dynamic Link: "only one active AE project at a time". THIS FULLY PARALIZED ALL WORKS! We need fix to this problem ASAP!

I think I may have the answer.  My issue is dynamic link between Premiere and Audition.  When the premiere project file is on your local drive, in my case in Documents, dynamic link works fine.  If the project is on the external drive with all the media, dynamic link doesn't work.  This doesn't pertain to After Effects in my case.  Only Audition.

Hi, thanks for the answer, are you using a mac or a PC? I'm on a mac and can't find that folder!

Thanks!

I am using an iMac. The folder may be in  another location depending on where it was created when the program was installed. The answer just tells you where I found the folder on my computer. In finder, just search for Dynamic Link Media Server and it should find the folder on your computer.

I was able to use the 'Correct Answer' indicated in this thread to a point; the AE Comps can now be viewed but not edited within the CC2020 Premiere project. The editable elements, such as text for lower thirds, only display the default / template text from AE. In Premiere CC2020 14.0.1, with the reloaded lower-thirds (AE Comp) layer active in the sequence, I navigated to the Effect Control text field; from here I can click into and edit the field in the Effect Control space but the text in the actual Program display goes blank.

**Update: Thank you user, stabmixer -- I went back to the earlier versions Premiere 14.0.0 and AE 17.0.0 and once I rebooted was able to edit the imported AE Comp's text fields.

Same problem here since the AE V17.0.2 and PR V14.0.1 update. I did a simple test with a newly made AE project with some text and imported it into Premiere. Altering it just leaves blanks.

Downgrading is a temporary solution, but off course Adobe needs to fix this in the next update!

We had a similar problem. Converted old project would always show the linked clips as pending and as as soon as any property was changed in the master settings, the properties got empty and stayed that way.

After a lengthy multiple day search with the technical Support we couldn't find a solution for the lates updates. We could resolve the problem by rolling back After Effects from Verson 17.0.2 to 17.0.0 and Premiere from Version 14.0.1 to Version 14.0.0. This worked on our Windows ans Apple machines. Hope this workarround helps.

I have the same issue with 2020 files. I tried to the suggested solution, but it doesn't work. The only way to get the AE file to update in Premiere is to close the project in Premiere and reopen it.

** Situation resolved for me: I had the files saved in Dropbox and when saving it locally on my desktop or in Creative Cloud Files, Premiere recognizes updates in AE. **

Sorry but this still does not work for me. My issue was not because it was a 2019 project and then updated and broke the links. I am already in 2020 premiere and I open up the project and the link is broken. When I click on the after effects file itself that is suppose to be linked to premiere it says missing file and won't open anything.

Does it work to open the after effects project in AE 2020 first, then open your premiere project, or then do the re-link. Thats how I've made it work.
