I've just upgraded to Windows 10 and Premiere CC 2018
(Windows 7 + Premiere 2017 previously working fine. Upgraded to Win 10 because Win 7 home would not support more than 16gb RAM).
Nvidia Gforce GTX680 GPU
Intel i5-3570K
32gb RAM (DDR3 1600)
Windows 10
I'm having a lot of problems with GPU, and I think it might be CUDA related. Black screen with some videos (HD 1080x1920 25fps) on timeline - workaround by restarting system / reimporting 'problem' clips onto the timeline. Frustrating.
Now trying to export a h264 and getting GPU related error message in connection to Lumetri colour effects I'm using.
What can be done with my GPU / Windows 10 / Premiere setup?
Very grateful for advice, and solutions to my urgent problem.
Thanks.
You might try updating the GPU to a 1000 series card.

what i would do, (970 here) uninstall all the drivers, clean everything up and re-download and install drivers, make sure you get the right drivers, i recommend using geforce experience for that, just install that, and install the drivers from there. Or maybe that gpu is no more supported? look that up i guess.

Thanks djrumbu,
Tried clean reinstall of latest drivers and even the dreaded gforce experience. Sadly no improvement.

You dont need the gforce experience just install the driver.
Make sure Nvidia does a clean install.
Might need to roll back a driver.
I have a gtx480 and runs just fine.
If you are having lumetri problems in export.
Remove effect (and clip) from timeline and apply again.
If you are having problems, reinstalling and using cleanertool can fix problems or just resetting Preferences and Plugin cache (shift+alt)

While that is true, updating the driver is significantly easier using GeForce Experience, and it doesn't cause any issues on an edit system. So it's not a bad idea to use it.

Thanks Ann,
I'm very skeptical about gforce experience - seems like gaming oriented bloatware, and their forcing you to log in has resultant privacy issues. I tried all manner of uninstalling and reinstalling drivers, and to no avail - with and without gf experience. Your other pieces of advice sound very promising, but by that point I had already paid out for a new GPU.
In the end I bought a new GTX 1060 6gb GPU - mainly because of time pressures, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to upgrade my hardware.
Another connected issue was my workflow. I was exporting/encoding a h264 directly from Premiere, which was very demanding on the system, and producing lesser quality results - as well as taking 10 - 15 hrs to export. After reading Kevin Monahan's post on encoding times: FAQ: How do I speed up rendering, exporting, or encoding? I now export a master 'same as source' (1hr) - and then convert to h264 in Media Encoder CC (1.5hrs). This process seems to be far less demanding on the GPU, and far more reliant on the CPU - from watching windows task manager during the process. The results from applied effects, particularly 'Ultra Key' seem to be better too.
In retrospect, I suspect I could have solved my issue and kept on with my GTX 680 by downgrading to Windows 7 Professional - but I opted to spend the money and buy myself a few more years of future proofing.
I'd be interested to hear from anyone else that's encountered similar issues, and thanks for everyone's contributions so far.

Thanks Jim,
I have done just that, and will keep you posted on the results.
