Consider running the images through Photoshop and change the image depth from 300dpi to 72dpi, although you need to adjust the width and height then as well. I've noticed that this makes a difference.
Hope this helps.

Are you importing as an image sequence or all images as 1 frame?
Try and make a 1920x1080 sequence.

or try making a proxy of the image sequence at a lower resolution. Image sequences are difficult to play. In my experience, even exporting as a prores4444 quicktime will help (that's a virtually lossless codec).

there is no point in changing the dpi. Premiere does not understand dpi only height and width in pixels.
