I am inserting a file into a sequence that is 1920*1080
The file resolution is: 2048*858
When I drag an drop it in the sequence, it comes rotated automatically 90 degrees clockwise.
I check the effects control tab, nothing is there

Stan Jones, The file should download now.
My files import and shows as expected in CC2018. My issue is that if i import them into CC2017 or CC2018 (12.0.1), place them on a timeline and then import the project into CC2018 (12.1.1) the clips are rotated on the timeline. If you download the file you will have a CC2018 project with an imported sample project and the clips are upside down.
This bug has many faces but it boils down to in all cases that the clips are shown wrong in the timeline. Cellphone footage is not the only footage that triggers this issue.

Did not open your project but I imported the files into 2017 then open the project in 2018 both projects show footage as it should.

I also used new projects. Asset files imported to 2017 or 2018 and added to timeline are correct.
But if you open the 2017 project in 2018 (or import the 2017 to a new 2018), a) the assets in the timeline appear upside down (rotation 180) and b) the preview image in the bin is also 180.
If I reimport the file into that project and create a new sequence or add to an old, 180 one, the newly imported file is still okay.

There is something about this clip.
Even VLC plays it 180 rotated.
2018 makes a mess of the clip
cannot get it correctly.
So does AE
2017 and CS6 import the clip correct.

The clip is flipped horizontaly as well.
I did this:
1. Import the clip.
2. Place it on a timeline, 2048 x 858, 25fps, Progressive.
3. Add the clip to the timeline and select "Keep exsisting settings" when promted.
4. Select the clip, go to Effect Controls and set Rotation to 90.
5. Apply the filter Horizontal Flip to the clip.
Result:
The clip will now be showed correctly, iow the guitars are pointing to the right and the word Marshall on the guitar stacks in the background appears correctly.
Yes, it would be great if this would be fixed ASAP by Adobe but this works at least as a temporary workaround. It is possible to save all settings to a Preset and then apply that preset to all clips to fix it fast.

Wow. Yes, same results as Ann and Averdahl. Good catch on the flip.
I wonder if this is identified correctly in the staff bug list. The arri mini report was earlier and may have been assumed to be a quicktime quirk. And perhaps it is.
I pasted this comment in Averdahl's user voice with a link to the current thread.
"This thread is also arri footage. Imports correctly to PR 2017; new project in PR 2018.1.1, rotated 90 degrees and flipped horizontally."

Add your vote and comment here: Bug - Smartphone footage is rotated in CC2018 when importing CC2017 project – Adobe video & audio ap...
I opened the Averdahl 2017 project in 2018.1.2, and the clip orientation is okay.
So that problem, phone footage that imported okay in 2017 and 2018.x, but a 2017 project with it was rotated, appears fixed. The ARRI footage is a different issue - and not fixed.

I still see it here, if i import the 2017 project into 2018.1.2 or when i open Imported_into_CC2018.prproj. The assets themselfes import as expected in all versions, but something goes wrong with the orientation when opening "old" projects in new versions. I can recreate it with 2018 (12.0.1) to any later version of 2018.
But yes, the issue i have is not the same as the TS has. But it still shows that Premiere Pro has problems with interpret clips correctly.

This is for Rodger.
I imported your clips into 2018 12.1.2 and they show perfectly.

Yes, but i have not ever said that they did not.
Open any of the project files, or create a new one in CC2018 and import Created_in_CC2017.prproj. When you import Created_in_CC2017.prproj the clips will be rotated. Import project is the key here. (or simply just convert the project.)

Very strange issue. The only difference Premiere shows is below, under video info, 2018 (which displays it the clip rotated and flipped) shows 858x2048 instead of 2048x858.
This can't just be an Adobe issue, however, as the file appears flipped in VLC as well. I inspected the QuickTime atom and nothing appears out of the ordinary so I'm not sure where this is coming from.

It has to do with interpreting the Arri Meta data correctly. an image that is shot with out the image flipped setting has the following:
com.arri.camera.ImageOrientation : 0
When a steadicam op underlings the camera they use the flipped sensor flag so the playback can see a correct image. When this happens the metadata has the following:
com.arri.camera.ImageOrientation : 9
CC2017 interpreted this correctly and CC 2018 does not.

Released late last night. In the cloud desktop, select the option to refresh updates. Not where I can look at the actual name. So the bad news is not fixed in this update is my guess.

Probably already obvious to everyone, but in terms of fixing clips that are getting rotated when imported... if one clip (first) is adjusted with rotation, copied, then all other clips get selected and you use "paste attributes", it sorta does the trick ? Kinda easy, if it works.

You are correct about the Copy paste attributes, but when you send it to Resolve from premiere it makes a mess because Resolve reads the Meta data correctly then premiere messes up the transforms and passes it through the xml to Resolve. The only choice is to then have resolve ignore Premiere's transforms. If you have reframed the shots in anyway or flipped them then you have to do it all over again
