Hi! I haven't been working with Premier Pro for long time and now I owe this camera that makes very HQ videos. I record with their native format XAVCD. When i want to edit, which sequence settings do you suggest to use to get the maximum quality?

Hi mzampitelli,

Sony a7 III uses XAVC S / AVCHD format to record videos. I believe by XAVCD you meant the XAVC S  format (in case you are using AVCHD format then you may switch to XAVC S). The optimal sequence settings would be based on the media that you are using. Based on your camera if you are shooting in 3840 x 2160, you may set your sequence at that resolution. To do so, you may follow either of these two steps:

First, upload the folder structure from the card to a computer drive, not just files. Navigate to the folder in Premiere's Media Browser panel, select the media,  right-click "Import", to get the most metadata from that into Premiere.

Second, the best way to get the best sequence settings for the media,  especially for less experienced users, is simply drag a clip from a bin in the Project Panel to a blank timeline area. Premiere then creates a sequence to match the media.

Hi, thank you very much. I was hoping for more specific information, so

that I could solve eventual troubles like the one I have now (another

thread) For some reason my premiere - dragging the file - opened a sequence

in DV and its all pixelated at the export. So I would like to understand

what are the best settings. Thanks

Best settings is those which match the footage.

Post screenshot export settings and a clip analyzed in MediaInfo windows in treeview.

Hello, I'm a brand new Adobe user and trying to develop some good workflow habits. Can you suggest any resources? For instance, I cannot seem to find the correct folder for the video files on my Sony A7III. But in general, I'm having trouble organizing and ingesting files in both Premier and Lightroom. Any suggestions for a noob like myself? Thank you.

  1. Right-click on the media file in the Project panel and select New Sequence From Clip.
This will create a sequence using the frame rate and resolution of your media file. This is usually the easiest way of creating a sequence based on media properties.
  2. You may create your own custom sequence preset to be used with a particular media type.
Go to File > New > Sequence
Go to the Settings tab and set Editing Mode to Custom. Then you may set the desired frame rate (based on the frame rate of your media files) and the desired frame size (3840 x 2160, if you are shooting 4K)
Set the Pixel Aspect Ratio to Square Pixels(1.0) and Fields to No Fields (Progressive Scan)
Once done, you may give this sequence a name and click OK (you may also save this as a preset if required by clicking save preset)

Hope it helps,

Thanks,

Sumeet
