Question

What metrics capturing tool does everyone use for RH?

I am just curious so see what people are using to capture user interactions on RH.  I have been using google analytics and tag manager.  I started to research migrating our reports to the new ga4 and was wondering if there are other tools out there better geared towards RH sites.

@larryk33930191 I'm not familiar with statcounter, but you could also try adding the code to a master page (I forget what the name is in the new RH2022, they keep changing the terminology every couple of releases these days 😛 ) I've always included the Google code in the special "header" div tag in the master page successfully. It wouldn't be hard to try it for statcounter and if it doesn't work, revert to Peter's manual process.

@Amebr we tried applying Google Tag (gtag.js) to the master page (the .htt file). We have a large merged project of tens of thousands of topics in 21 projects. So it seemed like a good idea to apply the gtag.js to the master page. But the master page itself doesn't appear in the output files; it merely controls the styles in the output topics.
@Peter Grainge  @Jeff_Coatsworth    So is there another way--without manually putting the gtag.js in each of our tens of thousands of topics?

I am dealing with the same issue.  I am switching to g4 before the cutoff and also switching our site to a frameless build.  What I have found, using google analytics debugger, is that the tag mananger and events scripts are not being triggered when navigating to a topic.  This includes the default search results capture of google a as well as the html5 video listener I have built in tag manager.

The only way to get these to load and trigger is to manually refresh the page after it loads.

    Example:

    1. I load my site, and click on Link 1 which has a video.  Link 1's page loads
    2. In the debugger, it shows that the listener was not triggered.
    3. I play the video anyways - nothing recorded in the debugger log.
    4. I click reload to reload the entire page
    5. Debugger shows now that the listener has fired 2 times and played the video once
    6. I click play again - debugger shows now that the video has been played twice.

The same thing happens for recording search results - a google default, in that you have to refresh the page in order to get terms recorded

I have tried playing the ga and gtag tracking codes in the following spots:

    • Head of the master page i use in the output
    • footer in the master page
    • below the body tags in the master page
    • shoehorned the code into the head of the topicpage.ejs
    • Containing both tracking codes as separate scripts and adding them as assets to the skin

The only thing I can think of is that it is something to do with the way the pages initially load.

I used Find and Replace to add the code in all the topics.

@Lija SN tools like Google Analytics or statcounter.com are used on public websites to track visits to the site for further analysis. They can give you an idea of what pages are being visited the most often, how long people are staying on your site, where they are coming from, etc. See this post for an explanation - https://blog.hubspot.com/marketing/guide-to-web-analytics-traffic-terms

The only one I know of geared to RoboHelp is RoboHelp Server which is a separate licence. I use www.statcounter.com.

@Peter Grainge , do you manually add the Statcounter code after RH creates the HTML.  Or, do you place it in a RH file, so it's always there when RH creates the web output? thanks
