When I linked FM book, I got chapter files in Project Files, but no chapter files in TOC

Using RH9 in TCS 3/Windows XP

I've linked a number of books in this project. One book had all chapter files nicely displayed in the Project Files folder in Project Manager, but didn't have any books in the related TOC.  Only the topics.  How do I rectify this problem.  It seems that I have to deleted all of the files in the TOC before I can delete the TOC file in Project Manager, but is there anyway to regenerate the TOC?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Mary

Hi cvgs,

Do you mean to say that the TOC is different in RoboHelp as compared to FrameMaker TOC, please have a look at this blog http://blogs.adobe.com/techcomm/2010/03/demystifying_mapping_filesettingisf_and_toc_generation.html- it might help.

you do not ned to delete the Book link from RoboHelp can just make changes in FrameMaker or update proper TOC path in RoboHelp and Force update the link.

It should bring the relevant changes in ROboHelp TOC.

In adition to that you can modify the Robo

Did you build a ToC in FM before you linked the books? There's a place on the linking window to let RH know about it (and indices and glossaries).

Yes, I created the TOC and used the linking window to create the TOC.

Let me ask you this. How hard is it to delete a book from RH? It used to destroy my projects in the past when I tried to do that. Is it possible to just regenerate the TOC?

I'm not up on linking (I'm an import guy myself in TCS3), but I would have thought that once you had said use "thisTOC.fm" file as your RH ToC, just doing a Force Update All would have populated the RH ToC again with whatever changes had taken place in FM (provided you had run an update in FM first, of course). The idea is to keep the amount of messing around in RH to a minimum & do all the work in FM, right?

Hope this will help

Ashish,

Doing a Force Update on the book file in Project Manager recreated the TOC and gave me all of my chapter books.

Thank you so much for your helpful answer.

Hopefully no feathers will be ruffled if I move this post to the Framemaker section.
