Question

ZIP File as attachment (hyperlink)

Hi RH Community,

I was wondering if RoboHelp supports a ZIP file as an attachment using the hyperlink functionality. I tried to add a ZIP File to my project Doc folder, then use the hyperlink functionality to link the ZIP file to a random word in my RH project but the ZIP file does not appear in the DOC folder as the PDF files do.

Can please someone help me?

Thanks!

Like @Amebr I have set up a test but in 2022.3. The same issue, the zip file isn't showing in the folder. The image uploaded by @Laura28513373qpqw didn't show the folder in the link dialog so I couldn't see that.

In 2022 the link dialog doesn't even show all the folders in Assets. I will take that up with Adobe. Meantime @Amebr has given you the workaround.

I tried with RH2019 New UI and a folder with only a zip in it does not show up in the Link To dialog box. If I add a test topic in the folder, the folder shows in the dialog box, but the zip file does not.

However, I could open the topic where I wanted the link, select the text and drag the zip file from the contents panel onto the selected text to create the link.

There seems to be some confusion. You are showing a zips folder in Assets but talking about Assets > Docs.

Are you saying the zip folder appears but not the file in that folder? Right click any topic and choose Show in Explorer. From there go to the Zip Files folder and check it is where it should be.

Have you used the scroll bar in that image to scroll down to the Zip Files folder? You don't seem to be in the right part of the Assets folder.

Once there you will see the zip file you want to link.

If I add the ZIP file in the Asset > Docs folder, the zip file does not appear as an option in the scroll.

    1. In the Contents panel right click and select Import.
    2. Import the zip file. It can be in any folder you like.
    3. Next go to the topic where you want the link.
    4. Create a hyperlink to the zip file.
    5. Now add the zip file to the TOC, anywhere you want.
    6. When you add it, tick the Hide in Output option. That way the zip file gets uploaded but does not show in the TOC the user sees.

As shown in the picture attached, I'm missing point 4 of your guide. I can't find the Zip file as I click on Hyperlink. It does not appear in the list of topics / assets / folders available.

Yes. As I said, create a hyperlink to it. The paper clip icon on your RoboHelp toolbar.

When I add the zip file as a new topic in the TOC, it is not possible to link it to a word using the hyperlink functionality. In the output, it is obviously visible in the left TOC, but I can't find a way to link this zip file to a word instead of making it appearing in the generated TOC.

You're not going to add it as a topic - just reference it from a topic in a hyperlink.

Add the zip file as a baggage file and then link to it. See Baggage Files for how.

You also need to upgrade to Update 3. Because of a bug, you can't use Help>Update from 2022.1. See Update 3 of RoboHelp (2022 Release) is now availab... - Adobe Support Community - 13990870 for how to apply the update.

Thank you, Peter! What about referencing this topic/zip file in the text of a page? Is it possible?

Sorry, what are you trying to do? And what version of RH are you using & what output are you creating?

I am trying to add a ZIP file as a hyperlink - as if it was a PDF file. I am using Version 2022.1.188.
