To cancel without a fee: you need to cancel the last month of your subscription. The early cancellation fee is half of the remaining due, so if you do not need the service for the remaining time, cancelling now would be more economical.
The trial is a free one-month trial for an annual subscription. If you do not cancel before the end of the free trial, you will get charged and you will have an annual subscription. The early cancellation fee is due to cancelling an annual subscription before the end of the term. During the first 14 days of your paid subscription, you can still cancel free of charge, and you will get refunded. Passed that date, you definitively have an annual subscription.
If you did not use the subscription after the free trial, contact Adobe customer service and negotiate a free of charge cancellation. Keeping a friendly tone helps.
