Dynamic link between Premiere and After Effects in team projects

Having issues with an After Effects comp (team project) updating in Premiere (also a team project).  Basically would like it to update once changes are made without having to re-import the project and comp each time.  Need to have different pieces of the comp on the lower layers, and some on the higher layers, so bringing them in each time an update is made wastes a lot of time, as does rendering each comp out every time and just replacing the footage with the new version, which is what we have been doing.  Anyone have a solution?

From a couple comments in discussing TP's with Karl Soule at NAB, yea, there can be issues "in some cases" with Ae comps in Team Projects. Which is frustrating ... yea, when you've "finished" a comp you can export a replacement clip from Ae to replace the clip in the Pr project, all is cool.

But ... when you're still trying to figure out exactly what you want to polish the comp ... that's not good. Karl suggested if someone was having issues, to actually work the Ae project as its own separate TP process, and when you finish that, then export from Ae and add that media to the Premiere TP.

What could cause issues? About anything that gets things "complicated", from audio as part of it to tracked Mocha work on a video clip running with a mogrt ... all sorts of things.

Um ... which is why you need or want to do the Ae comp, right?

Not the answer I would have preferred.

In my case, the vast majority of Ae work that's been done in a Team project was for mogrt creation, exported from Ae into a shared Library. That worked very well.

Full Ae comps do seem to be problematic, though. I'm not sure if it's a linkage problem to the various media bits & stuff or what. So we pretty much stick (with the few things again we've done) to exporting a DI file out of Ae for working within Premiere, meaning we need to dropbox that file around then. Even if we need to replace it several times.

Have you been able to get this working any better since your original post?
