Neither of the recommended scripts are now working on ID v19 onwards, which is really, really annoying. Not only did InDesign remove the script on a previous update but whatever they've now done to the code prevents the scripts from running successfully. Adobe need to either offer this as a tool in the software (which has been requested for years) or at least stop messing with their updates so that we're prevented from making our workflow easier.

4 out of 6 of my signatories have signed. One I am waiting on, the other cannot find the document, so I have to re-send, or send a reminder. The 'Reminders' dropdown only gives me the option to send to one person which, typically, is not the one that I need to send the contract to. Why can't I choose which person to send it to? Why does the software dictate who the person should be and not allow me to alter the details? This seems really restrictive, especially when on a tight deadline.

Additional to my fustrations with the new interface (which I have no intention of using, btw) the whole app bears no resemblance to any of the other CC programmes - Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, etc. It's like the Acrobat development team are operating autonomously from the rest of the brand and don't seem to care that the majority of us would like some kind of visual harmony with the rest of the suite. One issue I've had since 9 is why is there even a separate Tools tab behind open files? It makes no sense. Such a poorly crafted app.

I have the same issue and have had for over two years. I've just updated to the latest version 2024.001.20604 and have attempted to set up some custom actions and the preview image and margin guides STILL don't appear. Are we supposed to second-guess what they are, or crop an image down and record the measurements, then input them manually into the New Action window? That seems to be a waste of time and doesn't make sense. Then again, the UI and functionality of this version have never made sense. I thought the 'Action Wizard' tool was supposed to aid workflow, not hinder it?

Thank you, but I don't see the dropdown option in my Tool bar that you have. I do now have the 'Reduce Multiple files' option pop up when I click on the Tool icon that I've now added, although it does not allow you to do the same thing from the top menu, which is where I've always worked from.

So, by reverting to the previous GUI it disables the one useful tool that you reintroduced into the latest version from 9 - reducing multiple files (see grab). Why can't that still be included if you switch to the previous iteration of the software? And why rename 'Reduce Files' to 'Compress Files'? You are making absolutely unecessary changes for the sake of it. I'm now stuck with using this latest UI abhorration because I find the option to reduce multiple files like this very useful for my workflow. I also notice that you've kept the same design and style for this action from Acrobat 9 - I think that says it all, don't you? If you can apply tools and UI from the previous version, give us the option to revert back to even earlier versions. I think you'll see what people will most likely want to use. This is either corporate arrogance or corporate ignorance at its very worst.

I've now switched to 2023.008.20423 in the hope of a better user experience. Unfortunately, this software seems to get worse and worse. Who on earth designed the UI? Is this honestly the best experience you can come up with?

I can only find one, good thing about this new update and that is that you've reverted back to how you could batch process reducing file sizes as it was in 9. Why don't you just reintroduce the same UI as that but with updated graphics? There was nothing wrong with the way 9 worked.

Oh, my word. What a terrible update - why are a selection of my tools on the left, some top right and others, including the all-important page count, stuck bottom right? I seem to be constantly casting an eye over my entire screen to find what I need. And you can't edit the floating Toolbar properly because there are tools I never use that are fixed and can't be hidden. This layout makes no sense WHATSOEVER! This UI has gone from terrible to appalling. Is anyone user-testing this software?!!!!

I've only just found the solution to showing the magnifying % through trial and error. Why is it only an option when the new tabs in same window is selected? This app continues to amaze me in terms of how badly designed it is. I hate using it.

Everything seems to be good with me, with the exception of the glitching/redraw issue I'm still encountering that I've flagged up in a bug report. Any chance you could share your findings with the InDesign team as the window problem still persists with that app?

I seem to encounter this issue every time I update the app. And every time I need to refer to this thread, because I can never remember why it doesn't highlight. I don't find hiding edges useful in the slightest, even when kerning. Is there a reason why this is a useful option in the programme?

It does seem pretty preposterous that Adobe are now building technology into their tools that will, literally, create elements from written prompts, remove entire backgrounds and even fill in missing frames of video footage, but they can't resolve a two-year screen flickering problem. With the billions they make from us users, you'd think they'd spend a few thousand bucks on similar hardware and assign some testers in a room to try and replicate the issue. It's not like this is the only discussion thread where this is a problem, either. A simple request - sort your GPU Performance issues out. If you don't know how, remove it from Preferences so that our workflow isn't affected.

Still the same problem for me, too. Updated to 27.8.1 with the latest Ventura OS. The shifting workspace windows appears to be resolved but the flickering issue isn't. I notice this is a long-term, lingering bug, too - over two years old!

Definitely not a long-term solution! I do the 'quick switch' between views as it's quicker than constantly going to Preferences if I need to re-enable GPU.

Nope. Sorry, not for me. Just getting in the way. It's a mess of icons and most of them are there just to allow you to hide, reset or pin the bar. Thank goodness I can hide it. Look at the state of this screengrab - how many options?

It's relevant because I'm interested to see how you arrived at your response to my comment - user experience or online research. Why do you not respond from personal experience then instead of referencing an article from one individual? We could all trawl the internet for subjective articles on the topic – there are plenty of arguments both for and against – but I have responded based upon my own experience. I, too, have been a Mac user since 1988 and am still running 4 machines now, one of them being over 12 years-old. I also ran an agency with 18 staff for 10 years (all Mac users) and, guess what? We never switched them off and I don't now, unless it's for the situations I mention in my post (if you hadn't taken the first sentence out of context). I'm intrigued - if they were meant to be switched off every night, why do so many people use the MacMini as a server? Mine has been running for over 4 years and has only been shut down for the purposes I mention in my post. Before that, I used a G4. Why do Sketch use them as a render farm if they shouldn't be on all the time? And why is there a sleep mode? It's certainly not been built in just to let you pop out for lunch or a coffee. I would agree that it's generally a good idea to power down Macbooks/MacAirs regularly due to battery constraints but certainly no need for iMacs, Minis, etc. So, no, I wouldn't regard my reply as a "fairy tale" - it's based on good, solid user experience. I, too, know what they're capable of.

If it's a Mac you don't actually need to switch it off at all, unless you're updating the OS, leaving it for long periods of time and not using it, (like a week or two) or fixing little bugs or purging memory. When in sleep mode the machine actually runs various maintenance tasks to improve performance. It uses very little power when in sleep mode as well!

Please can Adobe look at a way for us to remove metadata when saving CMYK files - maybe a check box / uncheck box on 'Save' or 'Save As'? I know there is an option to do this in 'Export As' but I'd like to be able to do it directly from the main menu when editing files. More and more frequently I am being sent assets from clients that contain huge amounts of raw data and it is creating huge problems when exporting to PDF once those files have been placed in Illustrator or InDesign. The PDFs are sometimes 300%-600% larger than they should be. I understand there are workarounds, which I have been able to find and use in my workflow, but surely it would be far easier if we could do this from within the tools without resorting to 'workarounds'? It seems like I am fudging things just to make processes more efficient and reduce my file sizes for printers.

I had this problem a while back. You may have accidentally used a keyboard shortcut and hidden them. Have you tried 'View > Show Edges' or 'View > Show Bounding Box'? If not, there is a section in 'Preferences > Selection & Anchor Display' where you can select your anchor viewing options. Does any of that work? Why hiding anchors is even an option, I'll never know.

Can you please switch off the 'Share for Review' lightbox prompt that pops up every few times I export to PDF? It's really annoying. I have no desire to use this new function so stop trying to upsell me the usefulness of it. You're just adding superfluous gimmicks that I don't wish to use. Here you are again, trying to extoil the virtues of project sharing in ways my clients simply don't want to work. If I click on the suggestion to not use this feature once, I don't want to see it again, thank you.

I have this exact same problem. I am copying objects with assigned colours, e.g., "Grey_Light" from a client's brand guidelines and adding them to a new artwork project I have created and each time I am doing so the numbering is increasing, i.e., "Grey_Light 1", "Grey_Light 2", "Grey_Light 3", etc. All objects and text are process colours, not spot. Additionally, I'm finding that some black tints (30%, 60%, 90%, etc.) with the naming convention are converting to full CMYK breakdown, not just Black. If it isn't custom named and has a CMYK colour value, it isn't a problem.

If this were an Apple issue, we wouldn't still be commenting on a thread that is almost 2 years old. It would have been resolved in one of the OS updates. And how would Apple OS only cause problems with 3 Adobe apps out of the hundreds and hundreds of apps available on the system? Utter rubbish - this is an issue with Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign and still needs resolving by Adobe.
