I just installed LR from Creative Cloud desktop and it was version 5.2. What you say is true for future LR releases until Adobe finds a way to send LR notifications through CC like all other apps. And that's the difference, LR5.2 is not Lightroom CC i.e. a simple update; it's another full release requiring download and installation in its entirety.

You could just download from the Creative Cloud desktop App by clicking the install button. But it may get confusing having a perpetual license installation and a CC installation. However it should be no different to the situation when CC first started and users had both versions of CS6 installed. Personally I would make a catalog backup and then uninstall and deactivate the existing application. I would then download within CC which will be given a different serial number. Mine was automatically generated during the installation process and shows up at My Adobe >> My Subscriptions. At least then you won’t have to purchase LR in future. You would then be free to use your perpetual license elsewhere, sell it or give it away. N.B. Your images, folders and catalog won’t be touched and will reappear when you reinstall/catalog upgrade.

Lightroom will use the system fonts. So yes you can use a nice cursive font if you have one already installed in the Fonts Folder (System 32 on Windows) Click on image below to enlarge. You start from the Library by clicking export, then check the option for Watermarking. If you click edit watermark from the dropdown list, you can create a new preset. In addition to using text, it’s possible to create a graphic in Photoshop or Photoshop elements using a PNG file with a transparent background. See YouTube video for further information. If you don’t have that type of font already installed, you will find lots of free downloads on the web. Select all of your thumbnails in the develop module film strip or in the library prior to going into develop. Then turn on Auto-Sync. Any adjustment you make to your first image will be repeated on all of the selected images. Or just perfect your first image and choose sync. You will see a pop-up dialog and you can choose exactly which develop settings you wish to sync e.g. white balance only or white balance and other settings. To be clear Auto-sync will apply all develop settings on the fly to all selected images. Sync will apply the settings from the first selected image to all of the subsequently selected images unless you choose exceptions. For example you may wish to apply exposure, contrast, highlights and shadows from your perfected image but not the crop settings. Don't forget to turn off Auto-Sync when you have finished otherwise it will affect future editing. P.S. There is no such thing as an embarrassing question. The beginners forum is designed entirely for that purpose.

It’s rather worrying for the Adobe CFO. Only 700,000 subscribers after more than 12 months. That’s out of a total of 12.8 million Adobe customers (8.4m creative suite and 4.4m single products) Apple sells real products. The cloud (App Store is buzzing) and has 250 million customers. Apple does not sell subscriptions apart from a few e Magazines. Adobe can change. Adobe needs to change. Adobe needs a global level playing field like Apple. Rip off pricing outside the US is doomed to failure. That’s a lesson to be learned from Apple. I could actually like CC given real choice, but not the present misguided strategy.

Yes it’s basically a global business with 400 million Europeans subsidizing 400 million Americans. Federal tax rates on corporate taxable income in the US vary from 15% to 35%. In Europe Adobe uses the low rate tax haven of Ireland where trading profits are taxed at 12.5%. When Adobe staff tell you its cheaper to do business in the US, don’t believe them.

You would probably be best with Lightroom plus the PSE Editor set up for external editing. Lightroom can also process 32 bit images and I believe there is a Photomatix plug-in for Lightroom. That may be free or cheap if you have the pro version for tone mapping. Lightroom 5 has a new transform tool. Why not download the beta version from Adobe Labs and use it free until final release in July.

The choice is Elements or full Photoshop (CS6) or CS6 extended including 3d graphics. The names give a bit of a clue to what‘s on offer. Photoshop Elements includes 85% to 90% of all the elements found in CS6. It’s a good place to start. But for serious stuff, the missing 15% can be frustrating. As a college or university student you can use your education accreditation to obtain a significant discount from Adobe. Elements is a good starting place, but if you are thinking of a future job in the creative arts you should make the most of it and follow the professionals by getting CS6 - starting with the 30 day free trial after viewing the many on-line video tutorials.

Are you sure you are making a complete selection? When you make a complete selection of the group and release your mouse you should see the selection outline change to marching ants to indicate the selected area. That’s when you press ctrl+J to create the new layer.

Select both images using Ctrl+Click (Cmd+click on Mac) then click Open Both images will appear in the photo bin. If the background appears first in the editor window double click on the subject image in the photo bin. Then press Ctrl+A to selct all followed by Ctrl+C to copy Then double click on the background thumbnail in the photo bin and press Ctrl+V to paste. Select the move tool from the top of the tool pallet to reposition and scale/resize.

Yes you are permitted two installations. Use your original disk if you have the boxed product. If you purchased from the Adobe store, details are usually available for three years from the date of purchase. Click the red Adobe logo at the top left of this forum page. Then click My Adobe >> My Orders Log in to your account using your Adobe ID Expand your purchase history using the small black triangles to the left of the purchase date and if a download is still available for your product it will be shown to the right.

Why not just try installing it. Generally it’s not best to install a new operating system over an already installed copy of PSE. But if you have the disk and download you could try installing into a clean OS.

Use the magic wand selection tool or quick selection tool to select all of the white background then press Ctrl+I to invert the selection. With your object fully selected press Ctrl+J and a new transparent layer will be created automatically. Turn off the background layer by clicking the eye symbol in the layers pallet.

You really need the original file with layers e.g. a PSD or tiff file. You can start from scratch using: File >> New >> Blank File Then set your document dimensions, resolution and choose transparent for the background. Add your text and/or images. Then use save for web and choose PNG24 to preserve the transparency.

Also it’s best to get your printer do a few proof prints. CMYK colors look dull when viewed on RGB monitors so the true test is on paper.

Not necessarily cheaper but with ACC you can use all the apps in creative suite, without any large capital outlay and they are updated by Adobe automatically when new versions are issued.

Set a resolution of 72 for display on the internet and that will give more scope when re-sizing. If the image is already displayed at 72 ppi in the editor (see info strip at bottom of main edit window) simply use File >> Save As Rename the file or accept any edit extension automatically added by elements; Then click the save button. You can adjust the quality slider between 1 to 12 to change the file size. A setting of 8 to 10 usually works well.

Try opening your photo in the Editor and from the menu click: Image >> Resize >> Image Size Check the boxes for constrain and resample then experiment with the pixel width (height will change automatically) In my example I typed 1250 and reduced the file size to 2.9mb (original size is shown in brackets)
