I have sort of the same question. My impression when first using the Essential Graphics panel to make Master Styles was that Align and Transform properties were part of the style ... Am I correct in now thinking only the Text and Appearance sections are saved/included in a Master Style?

That's how I have to paste everything. Lock every layer but the one I want to paste on. So I just keep all layers locked except for the one I'm working with. Otherwise, I have to scroll to the end of the timeline, paste, then move what I pasted.

I am totally with you on separation of tasks. If I were creating these graphics from scratch, I'd do this all in Photoshop but for multiple reasons, I'm either now creating new vector graphics or editing existing vector graphics. They go through many iterations and tests in their final home so, while waiting until they're finished to add the drop shadow in Photoshop would normally be a fine solution, I need a drop shadow for every little version and comp.

When I change the leading for text in a bulleted list, the distance between all the lines changes. I'm not even expecting a feature like "paragraph spacing" -- but it would be nice if changing the leading didn't also increase or decrease the space between paragraphs. I'm trying to get some spacing between them -- or at least make it look like there's space between them -- by reducing the leading but it looks like there's really no paragraph breaks when you use the text tool even if you press Enter/Return. If I'm incorrect, please tell me what I'm doing wrong and tell me what to do. Thanks!

I use the Essential Graphics panel but not to resize the text box. I use the selection tool for that. Update: I've since found it only does this in some files so it must be a setting or something that I've inadvertently toggled and don't know how to undo.

Not complaining -- just wondering why they look so different? They seem much, much harder to control in Illustrator as well -- nowhere near as ... precise, I guess, when I play with the controls. I never get them exactly how I want them in Illustrator but, in Photoshop, they are a pure joy. If there are any tips and tricks or something I should know to master them in Illustrator, please pass them along.

All of a sudden, this morning, whenever I try resizing a text box the text resizes as well. I can't make the text boxes wider or taller -- pulling on any side scales the box and its contents. How do I make it stop?

Tried resetting Premiere -- that sounded pretty straightforward and safe. It didn't help at all but did kick a bunch of my clips offline so I had to relink them. How Premiere chose which clips it would and would not kick offline is a mystery to me. The other steps are things I'd have to ask I.T. to do for me and putting up with a wonky Project panel is much less painful than dealing with them. Thank you anyway -- I'll remember the link you provided for when I'm working at home if I ever need to (which I probably won't because my computers never seem to have the crap go wrong with them that the work computers do ... at every job ...).

Here's the other thing I was talking about. Note how the top stuff disappears like the bottom toolbar does so if I want to widen a column to see a clips entire title, I have to scroll way up to see the headers (then scrolling back down causes the weirdness in the screenshot). I'll definitely take a look at the topics you suggested but I may have to wait until my current batch of projects are complete so I don't lose Premiere because it gets even wonkier. Our Draconian IT department doesn't let us so much as delete shortcuts from the desktop, let alone uninstall/reinstall an app so if I totally break it, I have to wait until they get around to fixing it and the simplest tasks take them forever. Wow, I suddenly turned into a whiney little snot, didn't I?

Thanks for the number-pad tip! These screenshots show what I'm talking about. Note the snugness in the first with all bins collapsed and how the toolbar disappears in the third. I grabbed the area around it to show the panel in context so you can see how the size changes and the toolbar moves around (and disappears). Something really weird that also happens is, if I have several bins expanded and I scroll down, the upper part of the panel -- the part that's scrolling -- appears to rise out of the panel above and behind the top of the panel! I'll try to get a screenshot of that.

In the history of Adobe, no panel has ever made me "feel" anything but Premiere's Project panel makes me angry several times a day. How do I make the stupid thing stay "expanded"? When all my little bins are closed, the entire panel gets smaller. Sometimes, I like to drag things out of a bin -- like I can do with layers in Photoshop or Illustrator -- but I can't. I try dropping whatever it is between bins but that never works -- it just drops into whatever bin Premiere chooses. I don't hate that anywhere near as much as I hate this next thing ... How can I make the bottom toolbar always visible? Whenever my little bins are open/expanded, the bottom toolbar disappears and I have to scroll down to click anything. This means, of course, I have to scroll back up to see the bins/items I was working with. While I'm complaining, who decided that after I click enter when naming a bin or changing the name of anything, the next item's name is "opened" and selected? Again, I have to stop whatever I'm doing and deselect it before moving on. For example, I create a bin, name it, and press Return -- I can't click "New Bin" again or press Cmd-B because that will create a new bin inside the bin I just created -- what does that mean? Why, I have to freaking scroll down to see the toolbar so I can click delete and delete this bin-in-a-bin that I didn't want and then scroll back up to see what I'm doing. I can't drag that misplaced bin out of the first bin -- why? because there's no room because see bullet #1. I've been using Adobe products for 17 years and until I started using Premiere (PCs at work so no Final Cut for me there), I would never have described any part of any of their products as clunky but Premiere is just chock full o' clunkiness. Please tell me there's a setting I can change or something I just don't know about this panel so I can work with joy. Isn't that what Adobe is supposed to be for? Working with fun and joy?

How do I "manually sync that file back to the video clip it originated from"? If I can open the clip and swap out the audio like I can a sequence, I don't know how. I thought Audition would change the audio in the clip, not create a new, separate file.

I started with an mpg containing interviews with several people. For each person, I created subclips from the source monitor. From each of those "main" subclips, I made subclips of portions of the interviews. Then I really noticed how bad the background noise was (caused by a very loud air conditioner). I know I can't "edit in Audition" from the source monitor (because, to this day, it doesn't doesn't show waveforms which would be great for many reasons ... grr) so I went to the main subclip for each interviewee and edited those audio tracks in Audition. Then I noticed the subclips made from those main subclips still has the original audio unchanged. Is there no way to have a "ripple" effect or something ... if I change the audio in the original (or closest I can get) and it will also update the subclips? Do I really have to go into each of these and edit the audio or, worse, just re-create all those subclips after editing the audio in the main ones?

I have the same problem AND I have to zoom way in just to place the guide precisely on the edge of a pixel square. What is the reason for not making guides snap to pixels (or whatever units your ruler is set to) and selections snap to guides the default?

Eventually, I found a script similar to what I needed that used itemLink.name -- one of the missing pieces I needed -- and that helped me to write one of two scripts I ended up using that I'll post later when I'm at home.

I've seen that solution (putting $1 in the change field) elsewhere but whenever I try that, it replaces whatever I'm finding ("^\d\." -- without the quotes -- for example) with "$1". Otherwise, this solution would be perfect. I just can't get it to work like you and everyone else say it should.

After deliberate and extensive experimentation, the only conclusion I can come to is (and this breaks my heart): The cause is using DW's FTP File manager. If I transfer files using anything else and open them in any app -- including Dreamweaver -- they look fine. If I transfer files using Dreamweaver and open them in any app -- they have new lines (additionally inserted with each transfer)

First: I don't want anyone to write me a script -- just point me in the right direction. I have dozens of files filled with lists in which the designer inserted these hideous eps triangles they, apparently, thought were more attractive than a traditional bullet. I have a script to delete the graphics and frames but before I use it, I'd like to find every paragraph (hundreds) with one of these graphics at the beginning and apply a paragraph style. I know how to something at the beginning and change the style ... how do I identify an anchored object? I've found plenty of scripts that convert text in an anchored object to inline text but these are graphics. They're all the same eps so that might help, right?

I'm having a much simpler (and, thus, far more infuriating) problem. I can't drag the sublayers out of the top layer. That's all I need. I have one layer with a bunch of sub-layers. If I drag up, no matter how carefully or slowly (sometimes I see a plus-sign next to my pointer) nothing happens. If I drag down to an "open" part of the layers panel, I only get the "no" sign. What am I doing incorrectly or not doing at all? In 17 years of using Illustrator I've never needed to do this until learning After Effects. Yes, I said that just to point out I'm not a total newb.
