I will give this a try, will be looking for where to click on all photos... then turn off all filters... will come back if I need help with that. These were entered into Lightroom at the times they were shot with no problems so everything should be exactly as accounted for. I will report back...

I catalog my folders by year and then inside, by date of shoot. For some reason the last few folders for December of last year are not showing in Lightroom Library view. I've heard that Lightroom on Windows only allows 1600 folders in a folder. Is that true also for a Mac? The folders are there, and were cataloged at the times of the shoots but now they do not show up. Can I repair this or do I need to use a work-around using another program to view the folders? Any suggestion to how to fix this so I can see the folders and images that are there?

Good, thank you and I will study as it sounds straightforward. I think I am making a virtual copy using comman ' (single quote) on a mac. Had not touched the virtual copy but the white eye appeared. I will be more careful now that I see that what you say is working and I may have missed a 'touch' that I did on the image, I'm sure it would have noticed anything that reflected a change. Thanks Rob. Souds like I just need to settle in and pay attention a bit more carefully.

I found this online but there is not choice for photo then 'develop settings' Maybe this is left over from an older version of Lightroom... I have no idea. When I set copy info to 'none' it still copes with strange settings like a preset is active. When I click on the 'eye' icon it shows the applied preset or wahtever it is that is changing the image. In Lightroom Classic, to find the copy settings for an image, go to the Develop module or the Library module. From there, select "Photo - Develop Settings - Copy Settings" to choose which settings to copy. Once you've selected the desired settings, click "Copy".

All updated versions of everything. This 'eye' when clicked on changes the image to some sort of preset. I don't know how to neautralize the preset as I only want to make a copy of the image to work on and keep the original as it is when viewed in the filmstirp. How do I make 'no change' when I want to make an image copy to work on? TIA, Ken

I need to learn how to work with color in selected areas of a photo. I see videos excaiming how good the targeted adjusment tool is but where is it? I'm in develop mode in Lightroom Classic and the panels show color mixing and color grading but nothing that looks like what I think I need. Has this panel and the feature been eliminated? My aim for asking this question: Example photo shows blackbird with excessive blue in one area only after I tried to lighten the shadows. How would the experts here tackle correcting for the blue to make this look like a more natural blackbird pic?

Thank You, I'll do some detective work as this must be checked somewhere to do. PhotoLab does not open the selected image through Lightroom 'plug-in extras' like it should so I just make note of the filename and open directly from within PhotoLab then export back to Lightroom. Thanks for your response and the main thing is I can delete collections (maybe by right-clicking on the collection) and not worry about losing anything.

I recently started to work with DxO PhotoLab and NIK collections just to add editing capabilities to my work. Whenever I'm done editing in these external programs and when I send them back into Lightroom, first, I will need to 'synchronize folder' so that the editied versions appear in the Lightroom image filmstrip of thumbnails, but I also notice that on every edit a new 'Collection is added to the list under 'collections.' Why does this happen? This has never happened before with outsided edits say, for instance Topaz software. I don't know how to delete these 'collections' or even if I should as it might cause problems? I need helpful advice from somone who knows what is going on with this. Should I just ignore? Did you arrive at allow preview cache size maximum of 10GB by trial and error or did you just pic a number that seemed like enough. I have no idea how many full size 1:1 previews it takes to make 10GB, and, like you say, newer computers can regenerate previews fairly quickly then so I may never know what would be the ideal maximum to set. I only work mostly with new projects coming in so old stuff is only referenced on a 'as needed' basis. I think that makes me an ideal candidate to set the maximum to 10GB and no longer be creating a mountain of unneeded previews. Thanks again for your help with this. I appreciate.

Thank you. That is valuable insight. I'm all for keeping things safe, not throwing things into a tizzy. The option to limit preview cache size is probably all I needed to resolve this issue. I've worked with Lightroom since it was introduced and this is the first time there has been an issue with the size of the preview folder. All is well and this issue is resolved I would say.

Previews are important to me, I process a number of ways but full detail is what I need as I'm looking for best results and keep numerous versions processed with various external programs. Lightroom ends up being the hub of this processing and keeps all of the resulting images generated out of just one choice for each choice. That plus Photoshop processing means quite a bit of room is taken with previews. Thanks to everyone for help here. I'll just keep an eye on the folder and throw it out again next time it starts taking over the drive. Good to know that is an option and not destroying anything really as I take it it will be processed and restored if ever need be.

Thank you. I wonder if it might be good to have Adobe enable having the previews folder able to be linked to another drive since it can become so large as to take over the computer hard drive? Either way, whew, I finally have a little breathing room on my computer and can re-install my needed programs.

Thank You. The previews folder was approaching 1TB and taking over my hard drive forcing me to delete apps. I had to dump it as even Lightroom could no longer exist with no hard drive space. I take it then that Lightroom regenerating previews will only need to regenerate what I am using and will remain small until someday in the next 30 years from now when it might become a monster and need to be dumped again?

My image previes folder for Lightroom was nearing one TB in size so taking up too much hard drive space, so I moved it to an external drive and now lightroom seems to know where it is as I can still see all of my previews with ratings. I have destroyed more lightroom catalogs in my life than I care to mention so I want to ask here before I trust this change. Does Lightroom automatically know where the image previews folder is and is it okay to have on an external drive? I've already deleted the original folder from the computer hard drive where all of my apps are. You would think that Lightroom would complain if it coudn't find the image preview folder. Can someone with more experience give me input on this please. How can I tell if Lightroom is actaully 'hooked' to the image preview folder in its new location and not just using some sort of 'memory' from the old folder. Lightroom takes knowledge to do things like this and as you can tell, it's 'seat of the pants' is how I've been gtetting along all of these years. TIA, Ken

I've uninstalled both Lightroom and DxO PhotoLab and then re-installed starting with Lightroom first. This has fixed the problem and I hope it will stay fixed. Thank you for input as some times we don't know where to turn for help. Cheers!

I have been torn as half and half, there are some bright helps here, but I am consulting with DxO also. Main thing is to reach a resolve. Since it worked beautifully for two weeks I'm sure there is a way to get it to become a settled working environment.

For the first few weeks, opening an image from Lightroom into new DxO PhotoLab 8 by going to Plug-in Extras and choosing Transfer to DxO PhotoLab worked perfectly. Now, fo unknown reason, the only way I can get this to work is to close down PhotoLab and go back to Lightroom and again choose to tansfer the selected image, starts up PhotoLab 8 and successfully opens the image. Of course, I would rather it would just transfer the image to PhotoLab while the program is ready and opened. Is it a glich I should just live with? Any ideas on this or how to correct or fix? I am told I need to enable Technology previews in Camera Raw but when I open Camera Raw from within Photoshop it will not open and gives me a program error. Here are the screen shots, one showing how to enable Technology Previews from the friend who is advising me and the other from my own machine, a Mac M1 with all of my software up to date as of today. I am not able to open Camera Raw. without the error and online helps are old as it says open preferences which now has been changed to 'open settings.' Your help with this would be greatly appreciated.

@pgmanuel, You are at the advanced point that I want to be but don't know how to get there. I have installed the DxO software to integrate with Lightroom so now will check Lightroom classic's Plugin Extras menu. I'll bet I will find the plug-in but still, when right clicking on an image in Lightroom the DxO software does not appear. This is where I am stuck and need to go to DxO and open the file from the finder level. Do you have a recommend so I can open the image I want from within Lightroom into DxO?

Author is a beginner with DxO PhotoLab 8 Elite. I did check mark to integrate with Lightroom upon installation but what that accomplishes I do not know. Lightroom is my mainstay and foundation to my photo management. I want to use DxO as an available processing app because of its noteworthy editing capabilities. I plan on using the winter as study and learning to integrate DxO with Lightroom. Photoshop is in line at the end of the process as it to has unique processing capabilities and then also provides the final exported versions depending on needed format and uses.
