I guess you're picking a CMYK-defined swatch and Photoshop is using a different conversion to RGB when filling than when brushing. To get the RGB that you expect when filling, open the Color Picker, click in an R,G or B field and increment then decrement (or vice versa) the value: a forward then backward roll of the mouse wheel is quick and easy. Ps auto-recovery files on OS X can become orphaned and persistent even when there are no permissions problems and no crashing of Ps. When one/many of these files is opened into Ps, right-click on the document window tab of one and pick Reveal In Finder to open the auto-recovery folder. Close Ps. There has never been evidence that merely installing the CS6 suite does damage to the system. The non-displayed icon problem has been reported as happening only if Photoshop CS6 is, or has been, saving files to which Photoshop attaches a custom file icon. The manifestation of the problem may require two things to be true: one being the creation or existence of a Ps CS6 custom file icon and the other being a specific configuration of the OS. I thought you were describing the visibility of icons in Finder windows and on the Desktop since custom file icons won't be displayed in an Open dialog in any case. Open dialogs rely on the preview icons that are generated by the system, so a layered PSD/PSB without Max Compat will have a solid white, black or gray icon (depending on doc bit-depth) preview icon. So, since re-installing OS X, you find that you can safely enable Ps CS6's custom file icon creation. Good, that's like my OS X 10.6.8 system where Ps CS6 custom file icons have never caused a problem, although I've recently stopped taking the risk of having them created. If you have saved no document with layers then no, there is no way to magic the layers back into existence. Be vigilant of the "Layers" option and keep a layered PSD/PSB (or TIFF) master file of a layered work unless you are 100% certain that you'll never need the layers again. Photoshop preferences uses the term Image Previews to refer to OS X custom file icons and Windows thumbnails. The use of the word Previews can be confusing because OS X can generate another type of icon called a preview icon. Both of the following conditions correctly result in the same non-creation of custom file icons: Image Previews = "Never Save" (which automatically clears Icon checkbox). Image Previews = "Always Save" and Icon checkbox cleared. The Windows Thumbnails status is irrelevant to OS X icons. Enabling it doesn't result in extra thumbnail files, visible or hidden, even when I save to a FAT32 thumb drive so who knows why the checkbox is there? Also, Image Previews = "Ask" never results in me being asked if I want an icon. I find it has the same effect as "Never Save", so who knows why "Ask" is provided as an option? ... View more
