Hi, I know HTML and CSS pretty well but this one is throwing me. I'm proofing my epub in MS Edge browser, the Kindle Preview and downloading as a .mobi for the Kindle. For some reason my Bookerly font is being ignored. In Edge is reverts to Times and in the Kindle I noticed it is defaulting to the 'Publisher's Font', which is some sans serif font. Yet the Kindle Preview on the kindlepreview website IS showing Bookerly. Of course I can change it in the Kindle but I want it to default to Bookerly. The CSS in idGeneratedStyles_0 is: @Blissful_help0D4E-face { font-family:Bookerly, serif; font-style:normal; font-weight:bold; src : url("../font/Bookerly-Bold.ttf"); } etc etc As you can see it references the font folder one level above, and this contains the correct Bookerly .tff files. At no point is any other font declared in my CSS (I've searched all CSS files in Dreamweaver for 'font-family'). Each page references different CSS files but none of them call up any other font. Page two displays Bookerly so I checked the code for both the HTML and the CSS and there is nothing breaking the code. I've additional xtra.css included in my .epub but that doesn't reference any font. Is this a known issue with either InDesign (doesn't seem to be as the HTML makes sense)? Should I strip out all font references for the Kindle to display in Bookerly by default? I don't want to do that because if people choose to read it in other readers I'd like it displayed in Bookerly. Maybe Kindle always defaults to something other than Bookerly? That doesn't make sense though. Any tips/pointers to ensuring Bookerly is the preferred font?

I've managed to break open an .epub file by renaming it .zip and unzipping. I've done some edits in the HTML (simply deleted a div) and then rezipped it. However upon rezipping I get an error and whichever device I use can no longer read the .epub file. Something has happened to the structure when zipping back to an .epub file. Any tips on avoiding this?

OK, I've found the culprit. It seems InDesign is adding an additional div at the end of each page, which looks something like this: <div class="_idGenObjectLayout-1"> <div id="_idContainer010" class="Basic-Text-Frame"> </div> </div> It's being styled with the following properties: #_idContainer010 { display:inline-block; height:540px; width:432px; } The problem is, if I remove them by renaming the .epub folder to .zip and then unzipping, editing in Dreamweaver, and then attempting to rezip and rename back to .epub, I cannot open the epub file anymore. Not sure whether this is because something got corrupted when rezipping? Any idea why InDesign is including these and how to avoid them?

Useful link, Derek, thank you. My epub passes. I'm finding these spaces and blank pages peculiar. I think I might start this process again, since it's only a small book (25 pages). Out of interest, to get this to be read on both Kindle and other epub apps, which template or document style in InDesign would you recommend I start with? I notice I can't export as MOBI. And should I have gone for fixed layout instead of reflowable with my current epub export? What's the difference in terms of the reader being able to resize the font? I went for reflowable because I thought it provided greater flexibility. [Edit - I just tried exporting as fixed and that definitely does not work so reflowable was obviously the right one to go for] Basically I'm trying to create an e-book that people can read on either Kindle or any epub reader. Does this mean creating two completely different projects or can I select either at export? Sorry for the additional questions, I've only just started using InDesign (though I have a solid understanding of CSS and html) so I'm trying to get my head around basic workflow.

Yes, I understand that. I've been following Sean Foushee's excellent youtube tutorials and I believe I have done everything correct. I think this may have something to do with splitting pages at both the Export Tagging part and when exporting to epub. I'll try turning these off.

I set up my book using a print format (half A5). When I export to epub it appears to be adding blank pages, which I assume is because my original format is a two-page print layout (please correct me if I'm wrong). So Chapter 5 document, for example, is only two pages, where the first is a single page and the second is one of a two-page spread. I've deleted all blank pages after that second page but this doesn't make any difference to the epub version. Is this because my A Master is a double page? Because I've just deleted one side from the A-Master and it has not made any difference. In fact I've just noticed that my cover page also has a blank page before it. If not, how do I avoid these additional pages being printed in my epub?

It's been a while since I did development work but now that I have the latest version of Dreamweaver I'd like to set up my Windows 10 machine to do some development. What I'd like to do is run a localhost but I want to be using content (database entries, images etc) from my live website. I've forgotten how to do this. I seem to remember running Lamp (or was that when I was on Ubuntu? What's the Windows equivalent?) - do I need to do this still? I seem to remember having to do a local install of Wordpress and then locally download all the plugins too. Do I still need to do this? And ultimately, when I'm happy with the local dev, it would be nice to push it live via ftp, but I can worry about that later. I have tried searching for this but because I can't remember the correct terminology to do what I'm trying to achieve, I'm not getting the right search results. Any quick pointers to the correct how-to would be appreciated, and apologies for being a bit dumb. It's been a while!

I have a few issues with key frames in the Effect Control panel. Some were around in 2017 but I'm getting crashes in 2018. They are: 1. In 2018 when clicking the first scale keyframe on a clip the keyframe appears in the wrong place and then Premiere crashes 2. In 2017/2018 when clicking the second (end) keyframe on a clip, it doesn't place it at the end of the clip. This is because the panel is not showing the whole clip, even though the horizontal slider has been stretched. The only way around this is to drag the edge of the Effect Controls panel to the right and then it displays the last keyframe 3. 2017/2018 when using the scrubber in the Effect Control window, if I drag it to the right to apply a keyframe at the end of the clip, the scrubber jumps onto the next clip, sometimes jumping many clips forward. I posted about this earlier this year and someone came up with a solution. I forget what it was but it's an option within Premiere. Despite applying this option it made no difference. This increases my workflow as I now have to apply the keyframe somewhere in the middle of the clip and then drag the keyframe to the end.

Recently updated to 2018 and it keeps crashing. Completely random but enough for it to drive me up the wall. Windows 10 Dell XPS 15 4K - intel i7 7th gen - 32 gb ram Editing GH5 10bit FHD long GOP clips, Mavic drone and GoPro .mov and .mp4 No other apps open Tried both CUDA and software only Cache files deleted Only once has it come back with a crash report (I was using legacy titles) and it sent me to a completely random forum thread. The rest of the time it just hangs in the middle of an action, which could be anything from slicing a clip to changing the tool. In a ten hour day it crashes at least ten times. Sometimes after opening the package after crashing it crashes again immediately, but sometimes not. Whilst I've been having problems with Premiere Pro running properly on my XPS, it didn't crash like this in version 2017. This is new to 2018. Anything else I can add to assist with bug-testing?

Also sent here after my first ever crash report (PP 2018 is frequently crashing but this is the first time I've received the error pop-up). I was working on text titles at the time so don't understand the relevance of this redirection. I must say Premiere Pro is fast becoming unusable.

Hi guys, thanks for the replies. Yes, still having issues. CUDA is set for rendering (i tried without but it was worse) and all the drivers are up to date. I had a minor success by decreasing the screen resolution from 4K to 1080. This has helped improve things a little, but still not great. The timeline still locks up. I can't play more than two clips at 1/4 quality without it freezing still. After not hearing from Dell they finally got in touch and I am beginning the process of returning the laptop for a refund. The problem is I bought it in the UK and am now in the South China Sea, but that's my problem. I just hope they honour a refund. This is the second Dell I've owned and it's my second bad experience with them. Will be looking at alternatives this Christmas so may start badgering the forum in a couple of months for advice. Hi Jeff, I'm using the latest version 2017.1.2 (22 build) v11.0 Oasis. I have the latest driver installed for the graphics card and pointed the Nvidia 3D settings to use the Nvidia processor for Pr. By grinding to a halt what I mean is individual panels within Pr take a few seconds to load and are drawn top-down, like they're being manually pasted onto the screen like a piece of paper, if that makes sense. When I scroll the timeline cursor over a clip it take a few seconds to appear in the Program window. If I play a sequence and then press 'stop' sometimes it takes a few seconds to respond, sometimes it just locks up and continues to play the clip, the top bar tells me Pr is 'not responding' and then hangs like that for up to 20 seconds. If I play a sequence it will play the first few clips, provided I have not altered them in any way, and then it continues to play the audio but the Program window preview freezes. I was advised to use an earlier version of Pr but I'm editing GH5 10bit v-log 1080 (30fps) clips so I need the latest version but I don't think this is the issue. I can edit the same clips on my old ThinkPad without these symptoms if I run proxies. I've run proxies on the Dell and it makes no difference.

A month or so ago I posted up my problems with my Dell XPS 15 4K 9560 ( i7-7700HQ, 32GB RAM, SSD, GTX 1050) and Premiere Pro. Basically it was grinding to a halt and becoming unusable. Some kind people tried to help me through the problems but it was never resolved. I have since gone back to Dell and they have just come back telling me that Premiere Pro does not support the 1050 and that I should have bought a Precision laptop instead. This after a two-hour chat with their sales team before I bought the machine telling them exactly what I would be using the laptop for. I have run the exact same project using the same files on the same hard drive on my old ThinkPad W540. It has no dedicated hard drive, no SSD and only 16GB ram, and yet I can run the project without an issue. What's more, creating proxy files for my project makes no difference to the performance on the Dell. It still grinds to a halt. NVidia drivers are up to date. How can a more up-to-date machine with a dedicated graphics card perform worse than an older machine? Why is the 1050 not supported by PP and is this really going to be the reason why I am experiencing terrible performance? I simply don't understand the logic of this. Any pointers?

Agggrhhrg! Well it seems I spoke too soon. Pr was playing well for a while and then I started a new project. Lots of clips, a mix of 10 bit, 4K, 1080, 30fps, 60fps... the usual thing I'd always done. We're back to the original issues with serious lagging once more. What's more I've not only transcoded the clips but also run proxies on them and yet it is completely unworkable. I am now going to have to talk to Adobe support because this just isn't on. Premiere Pro is no longer usable.

Good morning, apologies for not getting back to you sooner. So it seems as if my driver was out of date. Despite Device Manager saying the driver was up to date (school boy error relying on DM) I didn't have GEForce Experience installed on my machine. Thinking this was just a gaming app I installed it and it told me my Game Ready driver was out of date. In my naivety I thought this was some gaming-specific driver and not the official driver for the GTX1050. Anyway, I went ahead and installed it and Pr appears to be playing nicely now. I'm kinda bummed that Dell would ship a laptop with a driver that was so out of date. The new version of the driver is 384.94 whereas mine came shipped with 315 or thereabouts. That's a massively out of date driver so bit annoyed Dell would do this. Makes you wonder how long the machine was sitting on the shelf. But I'm also embarrassed with myself for being an idiot and not checking this before! So massive thanks to Ashley7​ and others for trying to help me out here, I really appreciate it. I learned a few things along the way so it wasn't a completely wasted exercise and at least I now have a laptop that appears to be behaving properly. Once again, thank you all.

It's the same version, the latest. I jumped from the Thinkpad to the Dell in the space of 24 hours. Thanks for doing that test for me. Yes, normally I let AME run on its own. In fact I normally let it run over night to create the proxy files. Having done this for this 12 min clip I opened PP and its lagging badly once more. This is either an incompatibility between my computer and PP, which doesn't make sense, or this is a hardware issue. PP has never lagged like this before, not even editing 60fps 4K on my old ThankPad.
