Pixel aspect ratio is correct. I didn't think about rendering and replacing individual clips but I wonder if that would have resulted in the same thing. In the end I used GoPro's Quick desktop app to import the clip and then save it again once it had automatically changed the dimensions of the file.

Hi WM, It does. The sequence is a standard 1080 timeline and the preview defaults to it. But that's not the problem. When previewing, this plays correctly. It is only after rendering that it does something odd to that clip.

I have some 2K clips recorded on the GoPro. Unfortunately, I did not turn off the horizontal/vertical switch so when I recorded my clip it recorded it at 90 degrees. When brought into a 1080 timeline in Premiere it initially looks something like this: The properties of the clip are this: Type: MPEG Movie File Size: 543.94 MB Image Size: 2704 x 1520 Frame Rate: 59.94 Source Audio Format: 48000 Hz - compressed - Stereo Project Audio Format: 48000 Hz - 32 bit floating point - Stereo Total Duration: 00:01:15:35 Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1.0 (1.0) Alpha: None Video Codec Type: MP4/MOV H.264 4:2:0 (Full Range) I then apply scale height, scale width and rotation to get it to look correct... To make sure everything is ok I then nest the clip. When it plays back in the timeline it plays back with the correct settings..... After rendering the whole sequence, however, that clip plays like this..... ... so whilst it has correctly rotated the clip 90 degrees, it has squished the clip and zoomed in. Why is this? How is it that Premiere cannot render this clip properly? Should I be using a different method? Any help appreciated, thanks.

Hi, I have a design made up of multiple layers. I am trying to make the shapes that are filled in white transparent, where they keep their black outline but don't show the layers underneath. I believe knockout is the way to go so I can manage the inner white circle no problem by selecting Minus Front under Pathfinder... The first problem I have is dealing with the white waves. When I apply a knockout on this it loses the outline where the lower part of the wave intersects the knocked out circle: How do I knockout but maintain the outline? The next problem is trying to knockout the sails. I have tried to select both outer and inner black circles and then the sail: Or I try to group the black circles and do the same with the same result. It works ok if I just select the inner circle (minus the outline problem): Any pointers gratefully received as I have spent a few hours trying to get my head around this!

Unpinning to clip does not work, Ann. In fact it makes it worse. Try it. If you have it 'pinned to clip' and try scrubbing through a clip in the Effects Control window and take the cursor to the end of the clip, it jumps to the next clip. Premiere never used to do this until a couple of years ago.

I think this was a feature that was added a couple of years ago and it drives me crazy. When I am in my effect controls window and try and add a keyframe at the end of the clip, it jumps to the next clip. This happens most frequently when I'm adding keyframes to the end of the audio track that might be longer than the video track. It's like it's prioritising the video track. The only work-around is to unlink the audio and video, which I don't want to do (I could then relink but this is not efficient). How do I stop this from jumping to the next clip whilst in Effect Controls window?

I've been experimenting with speeding up spoken word clips (with a corresponding video clip) and I think I can get away with speeding up by 10%, keeping the pitch the same. In fact I know I can get away with this because I've just published a youtube clip and no one commented on it! Currently I just choose Effects/Stretch and Pitch and simply reduce the stretch to 90%, keeping the pitch at zero semitones. This seems to work ok but when I then run my other filters (single band compressor, normalise etc) and listen to the clip with good headphones I can hear some minor artifacts. Nothing the general public have noticed but I'm wondering if I should run my filters first and time stretch last. Any tips on speeding up spoken word audio I should consider in order to preserve the integrity of the original recording? Cheers

Hi Jim. Yes, I know this but let me explain my circumstances, just for fun. I'm a travel vlogger who lives on a sail boat. As you can imagine life is often at an angle. TBH the stuff shot from the boat is less of an issue as viewers expect some camera motion, although I've become a bit of an expert at countering movement. The issue is going ashore. To get ashore we travel by dinghy, often landing it on a beach, so what we can travel with is limited. It all has to be packed into a waterproof bag. When we're ashore we're moving around, often to provision, so you can start to see how carrying extra gear becomes problematic. It's one of the reasons why I moved to m43, just to reduce size and weight. Tripods are out of the question unless it's a long talking heads or interview. I'm satisfied with most of the footage I can capture handheld tbh but occasionally I feel I need to stabilise. That said, after posting this thread I decided to not stabilise my footage in this week's episode and for the sake of maintaining the integrity of the clip it doesn't look so bad. A bit of hand movement is ok. It's just a travel vlog, after all. Also the GH5 has a 'tripod' mode that 'locks' the scene which I've assigned to a function button. Sometimes I forget to use this, so there's a bit of user error!

Not a lot, Neil. Some are even static and so I'm just using No Motion. These are 10bit files and I can get away with cropping in quite a bit on them normally. I haven't tried changing to Software Only, I don't see how that could be the issue but I'll give it a go.

It's taken me ages to work this out but I've finally sussed why some of my clips are appearing pixelated, with fringing in the sky and other artifacts. It's every clip I have warp stabilised. This is happening on 10bit 1080 30p GH5 footage and it makes no difference if it's an adjustment layer or the original clip. I'm now having to run every clip through Neat and then add sharpening. Has anyone else noticed this? How do I avoid it? Thanks.

I appreciate you trying to help, Ann, but none of what you say makes sense. In this instance the frame rate has little to do with drone speed. It is the shutter speed, or shutter angle, that creates the 'correct' motion blur. Since this is shot at 30p the shutter speed was set to 1/60, the equivalent of 180° shutter angle. Irrespective of this, the forward version has no problems playing correctly. What do you mean 'reversing footage takes horsepower'? And I still don't understand what you mean about drone footage being compressed. It is 10bit, 422. Can you explain further?

Yes, I figured I should have put this up too for comparison. Unfortunately I'm about to go offline for two days so I'll give you a shout when I can post up the original footage. For the time being I've removed the reverse effect and gone with the originally shot forward motion and it is all fine. I often reverse my drone footage and I've not come across this issue before, it's odd.

It is neither compressed nor slowed down. The Mavic Pro 2 shoots at 100mbps in 10bit with a 1" sensor, and footage is rendered at 100% speed. Using proxies has nothing to do with it, I am referring to choppy playback after it has been rendered. All other footage is crystal clear, only the reversed clips have this issue.

On a 30fps 1080 timeline I have placed 4K footage from the Mavic Pro 2 (10bit, 30fps), reduced to 50% dimensions to fit. Shot in log it has a LUT applied. In every instance where I have reversed the clips playback is stuttering badly. Here is an example: Sequence 13 - YouTube Funnily enough when it plays in youtube it doesn't look as bad as the playback on my computer (powerful Ryzen 7) but you can still see how the footage looks a little blurred. On my computer it plays like an old-school badly interlaced clip with horizontal lines. I have tried Optical Flow on each clip but this doesn't make any difference. Why should a clip play back like this when all that's happened is that it has been reversed?

Hi Chris, Wouldn't that require me to mask the t-shirt and then track it? Because the shirt changes shape the mask would need to be Interrogated on almost every frame. The clip is 15 minutes long.

Hi Neil, Yes, I ended up going down this route. What I found was that I could drag the middle point of the three points on Hue vs Luma right down to the bottom and change the color of the shirt to a much deeper blue. The only problem with that is that the grey circle on the shirt now 'flashes'.

Hi, I have a 15 min talking head where the talent is standing square on to the camera, moving occasionally but on the whole relatively still. His navy blue t-shirt has a few sweat spots which get progressively worse throughout the clip (we're in the tropics). What's the best way to disguise or remove them? I was thinking perhaps isolating the t-shirt and making the blue darker so the sweat patches are less obvious, but maybe there's another way or trick of the trade I don't know about. Any effects I should be considering? Thanks in advance.
