I'm not importing from illustrator. I simply want to create a mask using a circle shape in AE but all four of the different versions of AE I have, including the most recent version, only has a rectangle option to create a shape. I have AE 2019, 2020, 2021 and just updated to 2022. Again, none of these allows me to select any other shape except for a retangle shape. I suppose I could go through the extra steps of creating and importing a circle mask from Illustrator, but I was hoping that I could do so in AE, Hence the desire for a "magic" plug-in. ... Thanks, but I tried this. I started my project with a sequence in 1920 x 1080, so Pp won't allow for a 3840 x 2160 sequence above HD frame size. I had to create a new project as a workaround. I'm probably limited in this regard because I am on a Windows 10 machine instead of a Mac.  ... View more

Pardon the late reply. I just realized my workflow is flawed. I shot my footage in 4K UHD in order to do digital repo's and re-scaling in a 1920 x 1080 sequence. Unfortuntaly, have to re-edit in UHD sequence. Once I do, I'll return to Mocha AE and hope that I can resolve my orginal problem stated here.  ... View more

I am unable to combine multiple masks in single AE project. For example, if I want to mask out three areas on a video clip, I have to export a single layer with the alpha channel for each mask and then import that AVI file back into the AE project and comp the three layers for the desired effect. None of the tutorials explicity demonstrate how to combine discreet masks on a single AE project. So, from my experience, there seems to be alot of vaporware hype that doesn't meet reality.  ... Pardon the belated reply. My workflow has not changed, so sometimes the link feature works, other times it does not. I think it's because I make the mistake of upgrading to new versions of both AE and Pp.  As soon as I finish my current project, I'm going to back to AE 16 version and the matching Pr version (I think 13.1). Those seem to be the most reliable versions. It's typical that with each software iteration, the software becomes more buggy. For another example, AE Build 18.1 no longer displays the render bar (blue or green), so users are blind regarding what files are cached to ram or to disk. Not sure why this feature is no longer enabled but I'm tired of doing IT work under the hood when I'd rather do creative work.  ... View more

I updated all my drivers, including the GPU. It occured to me the issue is that AE 18.2 is not properly reading my project made in a previous version. I've had this issue before with Premiere Pro. Adobe always doesn't read projects made in previous software version very well. In any case, it's not my GPU or system. I checked all of the settings. Didn't solve the problem. I don't see a green bar which means this version of AE doesn't create preview files. I set my disk cache to an internal SSD seperate from my external SSD media drive. Premiere Pro doesn't have a problem with the internal SSD media cache but it seems AE 18.2 does. I have 10 second sequences with multiple layers. I can see the effect playout when I export, which is a work around, but appearently the latest build of AE is regressive - can't handle this type of work. Hello Rick,    I'm learning Fusion now but I revisted Mocha to see if I can get this shot. I found several video tutorials that almost address my shot. I followed them exactly with no results. Here is what I discovered. The pre-comp workflow doesn’t work. The problem is this. I have to corner pin the video to fit into the TV screen but Mocha AE doesn't track that corner pin data because it was created outside of Mocha. So, your workflow is totally alien to me because A) I don't understand the logic of creating a pre-comp when that doesn't do anything to track corner pin data and B) there is no explaination on how to connect the Mocha mask data with the video track Corner pin data. Perhaps I need to write a script which I don't have the faintest clue as to how to do. I could send you a link to the project but I can't expect you to do my compositing work. Hi Rick,  I did download and look at the comp you posted and tried to apply it to my comp. But I have to scale down the video to 10 (90% down from original size) to fit in my target screen but it falls apart when I scale it down. The Mocha AE tracking data does properly track the video clip at normal size but it won't allow me to modify, to scale down the video clip. I have tried six ways to Sunday to track the scaled down clip.  A simple like this should be simple to achieve. Hence, my doubts that Mocha is the right tool for this job. Your workflow works for still images but not for a motion video source that is scaled down. And if I transform to fit the comp, then I will be working with an comp only 190 or so pixels wide. It doesn't make sense. I guess I don't understand the logic involved, it's way to convulted.    In any case, I keep deleting the comp and starting from scratch with no results. Here are the images of a simple test comp that isn't working as well.      I lowered the opacity of the TV installation so you can see what I am dealing with. Notice that Mocha data does not scale down the background video to fit inside the mask. That should a simple process. Again, I don't think Mocha can track scaled down video. Hi Rick, I really appreciate your effort in this. I was able to track the video layer with your workflow. However,I failed to mention that I am not inserting a still image in the monitors, I using full frame video, it tracks at full frame but it won't track when I scale down the video to fit inside the mask. Can Mocha AE actually track motion video into AE or am I constrained to using still images only? If it can track motion video, should scale down the video first before I import into AE? If so, how to I determine the exact scale size and horizontal and vertical position so it fits into the mask?  ... View more

Thanks Roei. I should have said that I don't expect full automation but I was hoping for some. I saw many tutorials featuring a text or graphic easily tracking with a shot, which suggested some degree of tracker automation. I suppose what isn't shown in these tutorials is the teduim of actual of frame by frame rotoscoping and key frame animation involved to achieve the effect. That said, I've had success tracking sky replacements with minimal tweaking but, as you suggest here, I will look to other apps to do more effects rigorous work.  ... View more

 Hi Rick, here is the shot. All the screens in the monitor installation are showing static except for the one I created a mask in Mocha AE. I simply want to track the video replacing the screen and track it with the motion of the shot. I resolved my issue by manually doing key frame edits using the Transform - position tool. It seems to me that AE tracking has to be done frame by frame as there is no automation. A friend who does visual effects told me I should use Fusion instead?  Also, Mocha  AE workflow doesn't work for the video layer beneath the monitor installation. Does native AE tracking provide any automation or is does that have to be done manually frame by frame?  ... View more

Hi Rick, your workflow is very cool but it's way beyond the simple shot I am trying to do. I think I discovered my problem, though. I upgraded to AE 2021 and the motion tracker in this verion is very buggy as the edit target option doesn't work (when using a Null Object). I guess it's a bug that Adobe will fix, but in the meantime, I'm going back to the previous version and see if that solves my problem. Unfortunatly, I will have to rebuild the composition.   ... Hello Rick, I drew and tracked a mask inside an image of a vintage TV set which is slowing moving. I want to place an image inside the TV screen (mask) and track that image with the motion of the TV set. I searched through several Boris tutorials but none address my issue. This should be a general capabilty, so I don't know if  Mocha AE can handle this type of motion tracking. I also read that I need Mocha Pro to achieve the result I am looking for?
