After giving up several versions ago attempting to use Dynamic link between AE and Premiere Pro, I tried using it again on the latest versions. It works great until you close your project. Once you do, the link is broken and Pr no longer updates from changes made in AE when you reopen and make changes to the AE project. Any ideas? Or do I have to re-import the AE project into Pr everytime?

Impossible to know without any info about the project, sequence settings, footage usage, storage locations, cache settings and whatnot. You have not even provided the most basic system info, so with all respect, this is not going anywhere.

Pardon the belated reply. My workflow has not changed, so sometimes the link feature works, other times it does not. I think it's because I make the mistake of upgrading to new versions of both AE and Pp. As soon as I finish my current project, I'm going to back to AE 16 version and the matching Pr version (I think 13.1). Those seem to be the most reliable versions. It's typical that with each software iteration, the software becomes more buggy. For another example, AE Build 18.1 no longer displays the render bar (blue or green), so users are blind regarding what files are cached to ram or to disk. Not sure why this feature is no longer enabled but I'm tired of doing IT work under the hood when I'd rather do creative work.

Hi there,
Thanks for writing in. I agree with the expert above. Could you share more info?
Which version of PR and AE are you using?
Which OS do you have? Where do you save your projects and media file?
Let us know. We're here to help.
Regards,
Shivangi
