Chris and others have spoken about your laptop loosing power guring the save, but you apparently left it way too late to go fetch the power cord. Maybe I am a bit anal about stuf like that, but it makes me shudder to even think about working on an important project on a laptop with a nearly flat battery. My laptop gives me a series of ever more frantic pop-up warnings before it actually powers down, and tries to save the contents of memory as well. Just a thought, but that does not sound like safe operating practice.
