This was linked from a flickr group, and I am not sure how new the paper is, but it is very impressive. I didn't even try to read or follow the complicated bits, but it compares various up-scaling methods with what they are calling a Super Resolution method, and the difference is amazing. http://www.wisdom.weizmann.ac.il/~vision/SingleImageSR.html ISTR that it was a couple of Weizmann Institute guys that first demonstrated Content Aware Scale/Fill, so - if that is right - they probably have a relationship with Adobe. Something for the next Adobe Max perhaps?

I have four USB3 external drives, and love them. They are almost as fast as a 7k2 rpm SATA drive, and have their own PSU. The only problem I've had was that when I started using them, my main board did not support USB3, so I had to use a PCI card. This was fine until I got the second drive, which the card did not recognise. I forgot how I got past the problem now though. My current MB still only has two USB3 slots on the rear panel, plus a third on the front of the case, which is pretty short sighted IMO (it was only obtained at the beginning of this year). So I still have to use the PCI card.

A couple of points I'll add... If you turn on the grid (and snap-to-grid) you can easily create 45° lines (and other angles) with either Pen tool or one of the drawing tools. Touching down at the start of your line, and Shift touching down at the other end, will produce a straight line between the two points.

But what sort of overheads are you saving Noel? Surely those process are designed to make life easier for the average user, who doesn't want to worry about his system housekeeping? [EDIT] It does rather put me in mind of Harm (of the Premiere Pro Hardware forum) who is a strong advocate of a lean and mean system when used with a NLE. http://www.video2brain.com/en/lessons/stopping-software-not-relevant-to-your-work But this is the go site for optimising a system for PP. http://www.blackviper.com/service-configurations/black-vipers-windows-7-service-pack-1-service-configurations/

I had unzipped it all,, and had 3.9Gb of data in the Library folder, but Encore was just not seeing it. I eventually tried changing the folder name, and pointed to the new name in Preferences, and it worked straight away! Go figure...

Guys I am still not getting this I have downloaded the EncoreContentEnglish.zip file, and unziped it to C:\Program Files\Adobe\ Adobe Encore CS6\library (I had to make the Library folder) But I have nothing showing in the Encore CS6 Library tab. Just the General set. Today is the first time I have used Encore. I have CS5 installed, but never used Encore CS5 I have checked Preferences and the Media tab is looking at the right location. I have read and re-read http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/multi/library-functional-content-missing.html What have I missed?

I had an experience with CS5 a while back where Photomerge would not work. I started the process, but almost imediately stalled and left me with photoshop still on screen, but with no files open. I was unable to fix it, and this was a fairly newly built system where it had been working fine. I found that Loading to layers, Align and Merge worked OK, and with results nearer to Ann's second example above, than the first. Then the CS6 beta came along, and all was well again.

I have just tried and it worked fine for me. I generally start by Loading to Layers from Bridge though, and then use Edit > Auto align, and Edit > Aut blend.

Devices like the ShuttlePro V2 work with a range of applications including Photoshop, but while they are definitely useful with a NLE like Premiere Pro, they don't make a lot of sense with Photoshop because they simply parallel some of the keyboard shortcuts. Mine sits out of the way at the back of my desk when not using Premiere Pro.

On displays with higher resolution they display sharper and smaller. The higher the resolution is the finer the text size becomes. At some point you will have a problem reading the finer text holding your face closer to the display let you read the text on part of the display but you will be so close you will not be able to view the whole display it 15" not 4" like your iPhone Can you read all of this? There was a recent Photoshop User TV podcast where the regulars all spoke about using Apple laptops as their primary systems for using Photoshop. In fact, in all but one case, a laptop was their only computer! I bet those guys are going to be quick to uptake the latest Apple laptops - hey I bet the likes of Scott Kelby, at least, doesn't have to pay for his laptop. So it would be interesting to get their take on things. I think I'll write and ask, and maybe point them to this thread. There have been some good points here though. I have a current iPod (I have no idea what generation it is) and an iPad3, and while the iPod is definitely ever so slightly challenging to read the small text, as I said back up the thread, the iPad3 is completely comfortable to use because of the superb display. And I really do have poor eyesight to the point that I am not allowed to drive at night.

It would be interesting to see a screen dump of photoshop from your laptop. A quick and dirty calculation suggests the tool icons are going to be about 3mm (1/8 inch) across. If you could upload a screen dump, and give us the physical width of your screen, we could duplicate it on our own monitors. I have just had a browse through some of the apps on my iPad3, and in all fairness, I can read the tiniest of print without a problem, and I have dreadful eyesight. I am wondering if the superb contrast and high DPI of a small retina display would overcome the limitations of size.

There have been so many posts here asking that Adobe upsize Photoahop's tool icons. That was for the newer monitors with WQXGA and similar resolutions, where the tool icons are tiny enough. A quick Google found a 15 inch Apple laptop with an incredible 2,880 by 1,800 display. Photoshop Tool icons are going to be just a few milimetres wide on such a display. But I see there is a fix on the way http://www.digitalartsonline.co.uk/news/?NewsID=3363267

One problem with the big Cintiq is that it has to double as your main monitor — in practical terms at least. Although I guess if you always use it in horizontal mode, you could still have a big screen behind it. Heck, why are always looking for an excuse to spend more money on stuff? There must be some truth in the adage ‘He who dies with the most toys wins’.

If you really want the best, then I guess that has to be the big Cintiq But that's a bunch of dollars. Most of us use the Intuos, which is perfect for photoshop I have an Intuos4 and have not tried a 5 or Touch, and that's what you'd buy new now.

Would a caligraphy type brush be of any help? Set the roundness to about 10%, and angle to something like 15% to 25%. It would give you tapered ends to your strokes, but would vary size with direction.

The only time I can think of when the Space bar won't pan, is when the image is zoomed to fit to screen or smaller, but you say things are OK if you select the Hand tool from the Tools panel. So it is getting into one of those unexplained situations where it is time to try resetting Photoshop's Preferences. Restart Photoshop, and immediately hold down Shift Ctrl Alt

So Adobe's boffins have to reverse engineer every new RAW format from the camera. Or from a RAW file from each new camera - they surely don't have one of every new camera that comes out? It would be nice to think that was true, because I am imagining all those Adobe engineers lining up to do some more research with the Phase One P65 over the weekend.

Noel Carboni wrote: helloflash123 wrote: what is the difference between photoshop cs6 and cs 6 extended ? About $300 retail in the US. -Noel It's quite a difference, and I don't use 3D that much, because I have never taken the time to learn it properly. Corey Barker has some good tutorials on Planet Photoshop, but I don't know how much he has done with CS6 3D. http://planetphotoshop.com/category/tutorials I guess having spent the extra dollars, I should start working through some of those tutorials, but I rationalise my inability to learn every aspect of every item of software I own, by completely believing the urban myth that Albert Einstein had difficulty with simple tasks like how to tie his shoe laces.

When you get CS6 beta cleaned from your system: http://forums.adobe.com/message/4361731#4361731#4361731 or by the sound of things, you are going to need to use http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cscleanertool.html Run the cleaner and choose CS6 from the list But when that is sorted out and CS6 (non beta) is installed, you may need the ACR 7.1 update if you have a recent Canon Camera http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/cameraraw7-1/ New Camera Support Canon EOS 1D X Canon EOS 5D Mark III Canon EOS 60Da Canon PowerShot G1 X Fuji FinePix F505EXR Fuji FinePix F605EXR Fuji FinePix F770EXR Fuji FinePix F775EXR Fuji FinePix HS30EXR Fuji FinePix HS33EXR Nikon D4 Nikon D800 Nikon D800E Olympus OM-D E-M5 Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF5 Pentax K-01 RICOH LENS A16 24-85mm F3.5-5.5 Samsung NX20 Samsung NX210 Samsung NX1000 Sony Alpha NEX-VG20 Sony SLT-A57

http://www.adobe.com/nz/products/photoshopfamily/buying-guide-version-comparison.html Mostly just the 3D according to the chart, and a significant difference in price. The chart is misleading though... it says that Elements has Photomerge, but not either version of Photoshop. Photoshop has an excellent photomerge feature.
