GPU-acceleration was brand new to Premiere in CS5, and it was limited to just a few Nvidia cards. It took several years to get to the point it's at today. You're using a card that didn't exist back when this software was developed. OpenCL wasn't mature enough back then, which is why the technology was only limited (officially) to a few CUDA cards in the initial release of CS5. For reference, the Mercury Playback Engine doesn't mean GPU-acceleration, it's a marketing term that comprises a few different technologies. Software-only mode can still be fast, especially if you're not working in huge frame sizes or with a lot of effects. GPU-acceleration is much better in almost every case, but if all you're doing is straight cuts with no effects, then you likely won't see much of a speed difference. There's a lot more that needs to be considered when comparing speed (for example, if you're scaling your final output), so it's not so cut and dry. Thanks Kulpreet Singh, Yes, well I did get a note to say the Nvidia Driver had stopped working, but, then repaired itself. Amazing in itself, I just completed a 23 minute production which in the end was perfect. I must be lucky as the this system has been working without many issues for near 7 years, and nVidia only replaced the drivers 3 months ago. I also use a Dell Precision M6600 which may be more up to date. And, yes ' How to fix issues that cause errors when rendering or exporting I did do all that and Cleaned the cache, perhaps it all worked to fix the issue. Regards, Bob

This error message comes up , I have Cleaned the Media Cache data base but, still the same message. The Sequence was easily exported to Encore and a Blu-Ray Disc was produced, so that got round the problem and I easily forwarded to You Tube, what am I doing wrong ? Me too John, It is not earth shattering, but, Evolution may get to the bottom of this, the disc on the TV is stunning ????? This is making me old ## Well they reckon that the disc was not finalized in Encore which may have been right back then, so they will copy the disc from the Sony Blue-Ray player and finalize it correctly, now, that should fix the problem.

There is no issue using Windows File Manager for any other commercial disc or other discs in our collection ? I am trying to play the disc in both computer drives. If all else fails I will get Evolution Studios , close handy to check this disc ?

John, I have tried the disk on a Dell T5500 and a Dell Precision T6600 neither will play the disc. From the Tools Menu " Windows says cannot access the disc" ? The disc plays very well on the Sony ? This has never happened before, would the HDMI connection to the Sony Bravia Monitor take a fed into either computer ? Thanks

Ann, I eventually used Movie Studio v14 Platinum and it automatically changed the pixels to what you suggested and also fixed the format of the stills I needed so in the end I had no need to use Premiere Pro. Thanks, you were right about 788 x576 pixels.

I then extracted the Movie Studio v14 Platinum mpeg file and imported it into Premiere Pro and it worked perfectly, the right format and no distortion in the final video ? Everything worked including all the effects. Huuuuuuuuuum, why is it so ?

Stan, I finally tried using Movie Studio 14.0 Platinum which I hardly rarely use . Put the DVD in the program and it automatically imported as the correct format, then sent it to You Tube and I extracted all the stills I required within 10 minutes, I was truly amazed. There was no distortion in the movie or the stills for printing in Photoshop. I would still like to know how you would do it in Premiere Pro ? Thanks

Stan, You can see the squashed video still image this is what I cannot get right and the DVD when uploaded to You Tube looks the same, I normally edit high definition video and I think I am out of practice with this real old video. All of the stills I can extract and fix in Adobe Photoshop but, doing it on the timeline has me beaten. Thanks .........I am not exporting from this file in Adobe Premier Pro , and want the stills for archival purposes , but, it would be nice if I could fix the format on the timeline, and just upload the stills. But, to get the video right for You Tube would be a plus.

I am having trouble formatting an old DVD 4 x 3 to run normally in Premier Pro CS 5.5.2 and then uploaded to You Tube, but, I cannot get it right, the video looks squashed ? Attached is the You Tube link . I just cannot get it right on the timeline, any ideas ? The DVD does play correctly in the Sony Blu-ray Player on the Sony Bravia. The format is correct, it is 7 years old 720 x 576 p Pal. The format is all wrong when uploaded to You Tube VTS 01 1 - YouTube

John, Dell tells me they reinstalled the Fx4000 /FX3800 nVidia Quadro drivers, it has been working for 5+ years so it should work now.., but, the Mercury Engine is blacked out > I'll see how i go with the editing and effects etc and if it is too slow I will do a complete reinstall. in any case the Pro Dad Stabilizer needed manual rendering with the stabilizer anyhow. thanks for your advice. Well I did read it, and got to GPUSniffer.exe" and run it in a command prompt (cmd.exe). How do you do that.? The last time I had this issue I did a clean install of CS 5.5.2 and it worked , but, it did mean I had to reinstall the Pro Dad Stablizer, I do not want to do that again ? Can it not be any easier ?

Ann, The latest driver was installed by Dell and works very fast, but, in the project setting it is blacked out. I have had no need to upgrade Premiere Pro as the software is still very capable of working with high definition from our Sony HXR- NX 30 P and Canon 5 D mark II mov. H264 . files., it has just completed a 2 hour production of The Netherlands would you believe. It even feels as though I do not need the Mercury Engine at all ????????? , it does work on the Dell M6600 and it is similar in performance. I just do not get it. This Premiere Pro has completed 100s of high definition productions with no problems in the past 5-7 years and very few issues. thanks, Bob

Neil., Your advice is noted and appreciated. "One other thing to be very careful of - always, and I mean without fail, always burn to the slowest speed combination your media & burner will allow." Yes, i will. At the moment all blu-ray disks are burning correctly, doing what I did for the previous 500+ "Create using current project and build to Blu Ray " Why there was a hic-up is a mystery ? I do use Blu Ray H.264 files. I have made a careful note of you advice and will use it if necessary. Thank you,both.
