pathfinder moves objects. Will not place objects where they are. I first started having this problem with the akign tool I finaly found the align to pixel grid and that solved the problem with not being able to align objects on the center. Well I thought it solved the problem until I started trying to use the pathfinder too to cut out shapes . I'm trying to create a house icon / glyph. But so far every time I try to apply any effect it moves  / rearranges the objects. I've attached a before and after screenshot. The issue seems to be mostly horizontal.. Again with this Insanely stupid problem. I'm working on a file probably 12 hours in and I guess I must have hit a hotkey that opened something and I just hit enter so I could keep working. So all of a sudden all the layers maybe 16 of them are empty. The work area is empty. Every layer has. the "eye" icon on, and the "Lock" icon off. Still the work area is nothing but he transparency Grid. Really The English language doesn't have enough swear words to express my feelings on this. Something emptied all the layers including child layers and objects and paths. All those layer are now just empty  top level layers. Any guess what could have done this? I didn't get a good look at the dialogue that opened. Whatever its default state was it apparently emptied everything in these layers No doubt a lot of my difficulty is because of my eye site. I am often using the Windows Magnifier so It's beating me to death zooming in and out trying to keep up with all the things that some erroneous keystroke is causing. When it's all said and done this is a result of Illustrator having almost every key on the keyboard designated as a hotkey. Illustrator CS6 vr. 16.0.0 For real, this is something that drives me absolutely into screaming rage simply because it happens 15, 20, 30 times a day, everyday. That something is that Illustrator  just jumps to some dialogue box or web page just because apparently I accidentally hit a wrong key or fat fingered some some key. All of a sudden I have to stop what I'm doing in order to escape whatever thing illustrator has suddenly decided run off on. (frankly, Photoshop does this too) I'm kind of thinking maybe it would be a good idea to disable all hotkeys except the Move "V" key and the Zoom "Z" k and leave it to the user to setup their own hotkeys, instead of booby trapping the keyboard with countless gotchas. Is there some way to disable all hotkeys? I will then spend the 15 or 20 minutes to set my own hotkeys. Rather than the hours I've wasted chasing erroneous dialogue boxes and web pages. It's probably worth noting that the person / entity that springs immediately to mind is Adobe. Does'n do a lot for your image if you know what I mean. BTW, just to be clear, this is the question... I'm  always created this stuff before in Photoshop so it was never an issue. I now have Creative Suite with Photoshop, Illustrator, & Indesign. So Now I'm wondering which is the preferred format ie. design software of print shops, Illustrator or Indesign. Which of these two platforms is going to produce a better file for the Printer to setup and work from? ... View more

OK, to start; I'm using CS6 local install Windows 7 Intel I7 processor with 16 GB of RAM. The Width tool will not work except intermittently. No rhyme or reason. I draw a straight line with the Pen tool, then switch to the Selection tool, "black arrow". I then select the line and change to the Width tool and I am unable to do anything with it. I get that weird little cursor but it will not recognize the line in any fashion at all. I click and drag every way I can; with various modifier keys or just click and drag. Nothing I've tried will work. I read several of the threads dealing with the same issue and I've tried all the suggestions like checking that I'm using the Basic brush, and making certain that the stroke is aligned center.Nothing works . I've already burned up 3 or four hours. Sorry, I had the Width tool selected but when I try to capture it with Snagit it goes back to the Selection tool. in any event, I was trying to show that the little white handles don't  show up when I hover over it. ... Background; CS6 local install running on a Windows 7 machine. I7 3.4 processor, 16 gig of RAM Layer visibility and lock not responding. The icons are there in the layers panel but they don't toggle. The layer in question has the Eye icon turned off and the Lock icon turned on. If I click the eye  icon it briefly turns on for maybe a millisecond . the Lock icon even if I turn it off it only grays out and immediately comes on when i click anywhere else. First thingsFirst; i'm using CS6 Extended local install. I'm trying to get to the rendering options panel and everything I'm finding tells me I need be in the Scene layer in the 3D panel. However when I'm in the 3D panel the  top 3 layers; Environment, Scene, and Current View, are grayed out. What am I missing? ... View more

I'm using cs6 extended from the disk install. Windows 7 machine. I recently created a 3d image and was able to work with most features in the application. So today I'm trying to do another image. First thing I do is open the 3D menu and select New Mesh From Layer. The option is there but when I click on it nothing happens and I don't get the fly-out menu when I hover over the option.
