Had I read the first page more carefully, I would have answered my own question! In the "Scripting Read Me for Adobe InDesign CS4" pdf document, it says: There is no Scripting Reference PDF for CS4; instead, use the object-model viewer included with your script-editing application (as described in Adobe InDesign CS4 Scripting Tutorial).

Thanks everyone. I will look into these. I do have the ExtendScript Toolkit for CS4 and am aware of the Object Model Viewer it provides but I find it painful to use. Especially painful when I don't know what the name of what I'm looking for is. @rob day: I do have that document for InDesign CS4. It is nothing like the document I referred to for Illustrator. Based on my initial look through it, it is missing things (that the object model viewer does have).

Hi, For Illustrator CS4, there is a pdf document that captures many, if not all of the objects and methods and properties for javascript scripting called Adobe Illustrator CS4 Scripting Reference: JavaScript. Is there a similar document for InDesign CS4? If so, where can I find it? Thank you.

Hi, I have a yellow object that I convert to a rectangle shape using FX. I want to use that as a clipping mask on the green background object. While doing that, I would like to keep the yellow object and the rectangle shape applied to it as FX live. I have not been able to achieve the desired result. I also looked at this thread but unless I did not understand it, that didn't work for me either. https://community.adobe.com/t5/illustrator-discussions/clipping-mask-not-converting-into-shape-pathfinder-not-working/m-p/12096395 Attached is a picture of what I'm trying to do. This is in reference to post: Photoshop CS4 Runs SLUGGISHLY on AMD Ryzen Windows 10 desktop I replied to the post but jane-e, a community expert, then locked the thread and asked me to start a new thread. Here is what I had written in response to Tim Liebe's original post, in which he reported CS4 Photoshop being sluggish on his Windows 10 AMD Ryzen machine whereas CS4 Photoshop would run much more smoothly on his Windows 10 (presumably) Intel machine. Hi Tim, -Have you managed to improve the performance of CS4 on your AMD Ryzen system? -If anybody else has experience with running CS4, CS5, CS6 (Photoshop or other applications within CS) on AMD Ryzen processors, it would be interesting to hear their feedback. In particular, is it comparable in terms of performance to running on Intel CPU, or, as the OP mentioned, is it noticeably slower or with other issues on AMD Ryzen? Thanks.

Imaginerie: No, because when expanding, it becomes a filled object and the strokes of the expanded object are no longer in the position of the original stroke (which would be kind of in the middle). Or perhaps I don't know how to do it properly! Monika: Yes, that would work if the rotation is live and the stroke is live. How did you do it? I might be able to settle for a rotation that is no longer live.

Hi Monika! No, what I would like is this. The second object is subject to 3D rotate effect. I made the third object manually but I would like it to be just like the second object (circle with 3D effect applied to it), but with a constant aspect stroke.

Hello, Is it possible to preserve the stroke aspect when applying a 3D rotation effect? In other words, the object would undergo the roration but its stroke would not be thickenned and thinned according to the rotation, it would maintain a constant stroke width appearance throughout the rotated object. As it is now, when I apply a 3D rotation to an object like a circle, the stroke's width varies after rotation (the stroke's visual appearance, not its stroke size in points, which remains constant). This is for CS4. Thanks.

Outlining strokes will always hit the whole path. By @Jacob Bugge What do you mean? I checked in this particular case and the stroke of the rectangle remains a stroke in the PDF.

Hi Jacob. I didn't realise you didn't know what I was referring to with FX. I thought it was well-known since Illustrator itself abbreviates it with "fx" in the Appearance panel. Yes, what you say sums it up. I am wary of FX because some of the effects convert strokes to filled objects when saving as PDF. But in this case, it looks as though the stroke (I assume of the rectangle, not the line segment) remains a stroke.

michelew83603738: using FX in the Appearance panel would allow to keep the original object intact. I found a solution, I think. I ended up using FX Convert to Shape. By setting Extra Height to zero in Convert to Rectangle, I am able to retain the stroke of the object (it is not converted to a filled object in PDF). And I add or subtract to the line's length by an amount set in Extra Width. I suppose that the line is now two line segments on top of each other since it is a rectangle but for my purposes, that should do the job.

Hi, Is there a way to add/subtract to the length of a line segment while retaining the original length? That would probably be through FX but I can't figure out a good way. I would also like to retain the stroke character of the line. This is for CS4. Thanks.

Hi Silly-V. That's a good suggestion but not applicable to this case for the reason you bring up at the end. And applying FX to area type to replicate how it would apply to point type is doable but difficult. It would require too much tweaking, especially if the text changes.

Hi Monika. I was expecting you! 😄 I tried two point type areas aligned back to back. Didn't work. Grouped them. Still didn't work. The second text would stay where it was and the first text would run into it if I added characters. Your idea: brilliant! I had not thought of wrap at all. I tried it and it kind of does what I am looking for. An issue is that for aligning the baseline of the two text areas, it would be easier to have both as point type. So I also tried your idea by setting the first point type to wrap around the second point type but that doesn't work. I was also adding FX in appearance and I am having trouble with adding those in the area type (as opposed to point type) since they apply to the area and do not resize with type. I will play with it more to see if I can add FX the way I want with the area type. If you have any other suggestion, let me know. Thanks.

Hi, I would like to have text with two different appearance sets. Type with each attribute is part of the same text and should therefore reflow. For example, if the two parts of the text are: "attribute1attribute2" with attribute1 and attribute2 having different appearances. If the text is modified like this by adding the characters "more": "moreattribute1attribute2", text moreattribute1 should push text attribute2 (since they are part of the same text) but moreattribute1 and attribute2 would continue to have different appearances. I can do that with two distinct text objects (back to back type point objects for instance) but if I do that, moreattribute1 would not push attribute2, it would just run into it. Is there any way to achieve this in Illustrator? This is for CS4. Thanks.

Hi Kurt, Let me clarify what I'm saying. I'm referring to the second bullet point in the manual, in "Apply a Graphc Style": To merge a style with an object’s existing style attributes, or apply multiple styles to an object, do either of the following: Alt-drag (Windows) or Option-drag (Mac OS) the style from the Graphic Styles panel to the object. Select the object, and then Alt-click (Windows) or Option-click (Mac OS) the style in the Graphic Styles panel. In this case, whatever style attributes are already applied to the object remain intact, and the Graphic Style is applied on top of them. Hence the term "merged". I am not merging graphic styles in the Graphic Styles panel here. My issue is that when I merge the Graphic Style G1 in this way with the object O1, that Graphic Style G1 is "lost": I cannot refer to that style in the object anymore.
