Hi all! I'm sure there's a very simple answer, but I just can't figure it out. I want to turn OFF auto spellcheck so that I don't have the red squiggly line under a lot of words I'm using in my file. I thought I could just go to Edit > Spelling > Auto Spell Check and UNCHECK that choice. But... it won't turn off. I can choose "Check Spelling" and it does... but then it goes right back to auto spellcheck. I'm using Version 25.0 on my iMac. What can I do to make it stop automatically spellchecking?

Hi all! I recently updated to InDesign 16.0. Since then, when I try to run spellcheck, I keep getting the following: Words containing punctuation other than ending periods may not be added to the dictionary." This happens when I have forced lines down to fix hyphenation issues. I went to the preferences for spellcheck, and didn't see an option to turn off so this doesn't happen. Any ideas? Thanks!

Hi all! I have been asked to copy the design of an ad... I don't have the original artwork, but I do have an editable PDF (don't worry... it's the same company, they just can't find the original artwork... ). I am able to find the font and the color of the font, but I can't figure out how to determine the background color. I know I can open the file in Illustrator or Photoshop, but it got me to wondering if there's also a way to do this IN Acrobat. Thanks! Julie

Hi all! I'm runing 21.2.1 on an iMac using OS Catalonia 10.15.6. Just recently, I've started having a "refresh" problem (if that's what I should call it... not sure). When I'm working on a Photoshop image... it keeps turning completely gray. To "get out" of this, I have to click on any tool. Then the images/layers reappear. Not sure what to do? Is it a memory issue? Something to do with my graphics hardware? As I mentioned, it just started in the last few days. I haven't done anything to my computer since then, so I'm not sure how to fix this.

I'm having the exact same issue... I just updated to 21.2.1 today, and it started happening immediatly. I run a batch process, then the action dialog box stays on top of everything else (blank) until I restart Photoshop. I"m also on the most current Mac OS.

Hi all! I've managed to use InDesign for years now without needing to figure out how to automatically generate a table of contents. But now I need to. So... I've seen how to create the table of contents. And I've know how to create hyperlinks to go to specific pages. But I can't figure out how to generate both at once. Is there a way? Or is it just a 2-step process? I want to have a table of contents that is updated whenever I add or remove pages. AND I want that table of contents to be clickable... so it can take you to those pages. It seems like it should all be created at once. But maybe not? Thanks for any input you can give me.

This was driving me crazy, but I just figured out what to do. I found it here: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/known-issues.html You need to go to Preferences > Performance and UNCHECK "Legacy Compositing." That worked!

I am grateful for your help, but I don't think this should be marked as fixed. You've given me a work-around, but this issue really needs to be looked at! I just tried to do a simple graphic I've done a million times before... and it took me twice as long because of this glitch! I don't know how to unmark the "correct answer" designation, but I think we should undo it so that perhaps someone else will find a fix?

I'm having the weirdest thing happen. I just updated to Photoshop 12.2.0 today. And now... when I have a photoshop file... I tried to drag a logo from another layered PS file I have.... and it does move to the new file on a new layer... but it also pastes that same image onto the original bottom layer. I tried doing a copy/paste... same thing. This is so weird! I'm guessing it has something to do with the update? Has anyone else experienced this? I am on an iMac. Update: I had a layer mask on that original bottom layer... and once I deleted that, the weird pasted logo went away. So it's something to do with the layer mask.

OK. I will keep an eye on it to see if I have issues. I appreciate the info. Hopefully the next OS update will make the issue disappear! As I mentioned, the problem started just a few days ago. I can't remember if I updated just before then or not.

Hi all! Over the last few days, I've noticed a problem when I use Photoshop. When I'm working on an image. Periodically, the image just turns gray. I have to click around the image or on the tools or on the layers... to make the image show up again. I can make the image go gray by clicking out of Photoshop... on an email or on my web browser. Other than that, I can't predict when it will happen. I am running Photoshop 21.1.3 on my iMac... which is running OS 10.15.4. I don't know if this is a Photoshop issue... or an issue with my graphics card? I'm not sure where to start. I made sure I had scratch discs set up (I do), so I don't think it's a memory issue. My hard drive is not even 50% full. I'm attaching a screenshot of what it looks like when the image is just gray. You can see all the layers on the right...

Monika... I'm sure you're right. I can do it in Photoshop. I just like to try to stay away from pixel-based images for logos. I find it always becomes a problem further down the line (when they want their logo blown WAY up for a poster or banner). I know the basics of Illustrator... enough to know I don't know much! LOL. So I was hoping there was a way to do this in Illustrator. But I can create it in Photoshop and deal with pixel issues later if need be. Also, I don't have an example. It's just something I was trying to figure out how to do.

Hi all! I'm trying to find a tutorial that will show me how to create a glossy button with text on it that looks to be engraved. I have found numorous tutorials on how to make the glossy button... but I can't find one that shows me how to do the text. I thought it would be fairly simple, but I'm just not getting a realistic look. If you know of a good tutorial, please let me know. I want this for a logo... so I want to do it in Illustrator and not Photoshop, if possible. Thank you!

I agree, Bob! But I'm not doing it to be posted online. I do PDF reports for a client who then emails the reports to his clients directly. He has asked for some pop-ups that have lists and definitions. I just haven't done it before.

Ah... I figured out what I was doing wrong. If I zoom in, I see that the two shapes weren't actually touching... but it looked like they were at 100%. So when I overlapped them, then combined them... then stroked them... it works.

Hi all! I'm trying to combine two shapes in InDesign. I know how to do this in Illustrator, but it's something I will need to change often, so it would easiest if I could do it in InDesign. I created the two shapes and went to the pathfinder... I choose the first icon ("Combine selected objects into one shape"). This seems to combine them just fine. But when I go to add a stroke to the new shape... it's outlining each original shape... not the new, combined shape. I saw online I should expand the appearance of the new shape... but I don't see that option?

Hi all! I've never used the Button & Forms palette before in InDesign. I'm using InDesign 15.0.2 on my iMac. I'm trying to create a pop-up list the shows up when someone hovers over some specific text. I understand how to create the pop-up part. What I don't understand is how to make the text what you hover over. The Button & Forms palette doesn't give me any options when I select the text. So... do I just create an invisable box around the specific text and make that what I use to trigger the pop up? Or is there a better way? Thanks! Julie

So I tried adding a first tab after setting the others to be evenly spaced. But I can't figure out how to shift all those evenly-spaced tabs to the right now. I can only move one at a time... which takes me back to having to do math. LOL
