might not be ideal, you can toggle the mode. (It does move slower yes, but its only *slightly* slower.. nothing too problematic) alt+ctrl+y isn't too bad of a keystroke to send multiple times while panning clicking stuff.. you could also change the key bind/make an button action to toggle it fast(or give that button a key combo) Most things like this I just adapt and make it work for me... work is work. Eventually adobe will make some fix for it but until then it will take some extra 'work' on your end.

you hit the TAB key by chance?.. possibly you are just toggling those pallets off (pressing TAB key does that) I just upgraded this morning and my workspaces are behaving as expected/toolbars as well

Reading will solve most problems... that thing you posted literally mentions 'pixel preview'... mine seems accurate in this mode (pixel preview enabled... strokes etc are conformed to the pixel grid. viewing 100% or 'actual size'... Possibly isn't very common still for the general pool of users, but eventually the rest of us will catch up and buy one. Maybe look into you os settings... if windows this might help? Why is Windows Display Scaling So Bad? - YouTube I just feel like it maybe a combination of you os preferences and adobe... I haven't had this issue myself though--worth a try, but at least right click brings up the menu still (just a little disorienting in the heat of the moment of making artwork)

I just tested Tom's approach and it does seem to work by making the 'links' folder.... but you will have to package/gather your stuff some type of way... usually when I link stuff its very disparate (though you may get stuff closer together folder/file-wise/ more local before you are uploading to dropbox) I would recommend just keep an original of the file (in case you need to remember some odd / long paths down the road) For me, my projects usually use files from multiple servers/computer drives (and *for me* its easier to just keep the dynamic link) and then after assets are signed off I usually 'embed' the files and they stay in the ai. and there's a lot of hot swapping/revisions so it helps to keep stuff where they originally live (just in my case though -- I assume you have different needs)

if computers worked that way I wouldn't have to work a day in my life. again as I posted before computers only do what you tell them to... they can't assume/be tricked *that easily* a close 'fix' if you like that approach is when done 'collect' and pub that to your drop box and keep updating/swapping. the point of linked files is so you don't have to think of stuff under the hood, it will drive to it and show the current state of whatever asset you have linked. (if you don't want them linked, embed them into your file.. though dropbox usually implies a client etc sending several revisions to an asset)

Incorrect -- only when you 'package' a project does it make the 'Links' folder -- this is not what OP is asking for his situation is that of using 'place' to put linked files in the document--those will always keep the absolute path to the original source file unless you package and tick the 'collect links'

On one of the machines change the drive letter (hopefully wont mess up other stuff like iTunes) then the placed 'path' to images will work on both machines (since they will both look in the same 'place') ...I feel your pain, I am always running out of disc space

Not that I am aware of... it'd be nice if so. I usually try to make my workspaces etc very similar so that no matter the machine I am on there's no learning curve for myself/or the machine as a far as where it can expect assets to be. (that way you can witch back an forth fast with no pain) "A Place for Everything, Everything in its Place" collecting projects/packaging files kinda makes it more locale (but if you link to them on drives mapped differently on each machine -- you'll be right back to the original issue)

map a network drive to a similar letter/put your dropbox folder on the same drive letter so both machines play nice map to a networked drive (that both machines) share or collect your project before switching machines computers only do what you tell them to do, and as you mention you are telling it to look in two different locations (the file paths are different)

I think its just a bug for now.. anytime I zoom/change default behavior I get oddities in design apps.. even internet browsers.. when you blow stuff up things work a little different. masks hy\\just define what is visible vs not visible... I would put the gritty textures and vibrant color on the artwork you then (further) mask masks just punch a hole in things.. they don't influence color appearance or anything (just what shows up / 'appears' in you document) so I could have a green fill, and a blue grainy texture layered on top of that and then I would mask those two as a group... and draw mountain shapes etc.

Setting files up like this can be a pain, but it saves in the long run. I know sometimes there just isn't time for it though... a faster way, quick & dirty... is just loosely group content in your document... when you 'double click' isolation mode will drill down to encompass the whole group... so if you have 3 objects or 333 objects its a nice way to dynamically zip around... and you can still get granular an isolate a single shape/object if you still need. gmaletic wrote ....still cumbersome to, say, select all elements of a certain color, deselect the items that aren't on the current artboard, then save it. Not to mention, if I add new objects, my saved selections become useless. If you save selections and then add some more stuff to your file... I would just run that old selection that is saved... that's going to get all the old stuff... now shift+click the new stuff... save a new section named something similar...v2. No need to make selections from scratch every time you add something... hope that helps out.

You can save the selection(s)... and easily access them later at the bottom of the 'Select' menu... you can 'edit selection'... if you wish to change later ....another would be to add a 'note' to the layers you want and possibly run a script that looks for a particular naote

I would just keep a 'SAFE' copy just in case.. but yeah a lot of times upgrading software and opening stuff up in it... things made in older versions -at times- get lost in translation. As long as you don't hit 'save' while its open in the newer app you should be okay (but even I forget sometimes, or even when I do a 'save as' and down-save I forget to walk it back to the right version. For now you can just re-click the embedded bits, the black rectangles and 'relink' them to your images... dimensions will m atch up so they should sit nicely back in there. Errors are always annoying! I feel our pain

Few things going on.... I would re-check just how dropbox is keeping your files (make sure all the linked assets are downloading as well) Also the illustrator version update possibly steam-rolled your links (that's why they are embedded now... vs telling you 'hey I am a broken linked file')

either make one version of your logo that compensates for the thickness difference... or make a copy of the vector art and rasterize it for your pdf They will hopefully never know! since its just in the pdf (just be sure to name it something so you remember the altered logo is only for the pdf)

My guess is you had everything selected and hit 'delete' and the dialog you saw was asking 'do you want to delete?' That will 100% rip out the guts (your art/shapes/paths... and all the remains are the layer containers... which you mention 'top level layers' Best way to remedy this is ... so long as you have not saved this document-state is hit 'F12' this will revert to what it was on your last save... and moving forward in the future versioning (saving different levels of progress to desperate files can help/not be quite a huge blow if you 'lose your work' it will only be in the past 20 mins... vs 20 hours of work tied to 1 file that could accidentally get saved at any time with you 'mistake'

I would save 2 keyboard hotkey profiles one that 'DISABLED'... empty of what you don't need and one that has the defaults... that way you can quickly toggle them for working modes/if anyone else has to use your machine. I would recommend just keeping hotkeys on though, computers only do what you ask them to and if you are somehow hitting the wrong keys... that's more of a human error, get something that records keystrokes that way you can run it back and see 'what did I hit wrong' and improve from there. and if some random website comes up or some dialogue... easy fix is just click the illustrator app in the taskbar which will refocus it and you can get right back to work. Personally for me I would think using hot keys would save way more time (even if a couple help pages or something comes up) then having to drive around ALL the menus/sub menus.. that's a lot of travel time/eye strain looking stuff up over and over again. I've never encountered the issue you are having... is it possible your keyboard is old/damaged... example 'I hit the 'A' key but surrounding keys 'W' & 'D' trigger because I have a potato chip stuck in there haha Common things you do I would make actions for... that will hit certain keys 100% correctly every time you replay the action while working... takes the chaos out of it (no fingers involved)

I would go with @Monika Gause 's approach.. and if you don't want to redraw your strokes as rectangles I would recommend select them all and outline them so they turn into shapes.
