Two thoughts and questions.   When you say they are grouped together - do you have multiple fields with the exact same name?  If so, entering data in one would populate any field with the same name.  Under most situations, you'd want to have form fields with unique names.   If you are trying to select a field and are getting others at the same time (or not able to select the one you want), maybe try to zoom way in to ensure you are clicking on the field you wish to highlight.   If you can describe your situation in more detail, it may help other troubleshoot your situation.   My best, Dave ... Yeah, my guess is that those are scanned PDFs, and those artifacts are the result of scanning not just the text, but the paper itself.  If you have the option to scan in Black & White instead of grayscale, give that a try to see if gives a better result.  Another thing to try (can be labor intensive) is to see if you can select those gray boxes in edit mode to see if they can be deleted. I agree with Berndt.  Adobe has incorporated an excellent redaction tool, and once redacted, the information is gone from your document.  Be sure to have the tools scrub what's under the skin of the PDF - there's data that one does not see on the surface, such as meta tags, etc. My best, Dave ... It will be dependent on page sizes, but in many cases, you can zoom in to the top half of a page, and merely tap the space bar to show the next 'chunk' of your document.  I read through letter-sized pages this way all the time.  Space will advance to the next view panel full, and shift space will go to the previous screenful. Reader is not a PDF editing application.  It is free and excellent. There would not be a trial period for Reader.  To edit PDFs, one should use the full-blown (paid) app Acrobat Pro DC.  Be sure to run Acrobat Pro DC for your PDF editing, and also ensure you are logged into your Adobe account.  This will verify your paid account (or trial period).  Once in the right application, you should have the full complement of editing tools in hand.   Can you confirm (in the title bar across the top of your application) which Adobe tool you are using>?  Is it Reader?  Acrobat Pro DC?  I would maybe restart your computer and launch the app again to see if that dialog box will be dismissed. If your files are stored locally, there should not be much of an 'online feel' to your workflow.  Your Adobe apps should be logged in to your Adobe account when launched, and not really ping outward unless you perform an online service.  Are your files stored on your computer?  Perhaps a network drive?  I would first confirm that your Acrobat Pro is connected to your CC account.  Is your ID showing in the upper right-hand corner? You must use Acrobat Pro DC to do this sort of function.  Reader and Acrobat Pro have long looked very similar (intentionally), but it is easy to be in Reader, thinking you're using Acrobat.  Look at your Title Bar across the top of your document.  It should tell you the file name (if open) and the application name.   Be sure you are logged in to your Adobe account too.
