Cool testing of current Windows 10 and previous version. So looks like "107 is the new 63" when it comes to processes and counts in the new version of windows, similar to what I was expecting. Earlier I updated a previous Windows 7 SSD to run on my current hardware (which Windows handle quite well I thought) but I also saw no performance increase. Windows 10 seems every bit as fast and actually faster when using external USB 3 drives. I've got the W10 interface now similar to Windows 7 also, and I've been running Classic Start Menu since probably the XP days which I saw you using (one of the only enabled startup options you have.) I actually remove them from the registry instead of disabling them. I see David feels strongly about Windows 7, but I didn't find his experiences running Wndows 10 just fine.

Hey Bill, David is recommending Windows 7 and changing the "cuda_supported_cards.txt" text file. I was referring to the processes. So, 110 processes is your cloned Windows 10 brought forward to 1703? That shows what I was saying. BTW: I was trying like a madman to get down to about 70 processes, but it just wasn't happening. I only stumbled upon the info of the Windows new loading of (individual) processes recently when I went back in to try again. Originally I had removed so many processes that my windows load from the lock screen to desktop was taking 20 seconds so I started with a clean install again, (it takes about 2 seconds now) and just use OO, Black Viper and the Nvidia telemetry removal. Plus of course all the Adobe, Intuit, Google etc.. processes that try to sneak in there. Thanks for the tips on those and pointing to Harm's tuning guide.

I think my Processes - Nuts and bolts thread which I posted yesterday explains why the process count has gone up with the Creators Edition, (which is simply the latest Windows 10 update). Check that out cause the # of running processes reported in prior versions is no doubt less than are actually running.

I'm wondering about the processes we are trying to eliminate. There are mentions of processes in various threads, I thought maybe we could do some comparisons here. When I first saw Bill Gehrke processes tab with 62 processes I was feeling confident - but I was looking at my Windows 7 install at that point and I was down around the same number. However, my newish 6850k build using Windows 10 - is +30 on that or at 92 about 5 minutes after a fresh reboot. My Task Manager / processes screen is below. I was feeling better about my system when I discovered just recently that Windows (also just recently) now counts the processes differently. This is a change to Windows 10, but not until the "Creators Edition" / 1703 was released. It seems the processes were "grouped" previously so the count was smaller but since the 1703 (started rolling out in April, 2017 the processes are all started individually: Here's what MS said: "Separating SvcHost services Beginning with Windows 10 Creators Update (version 1703), services that were previously grouped will instead be separated - each will run in its own SvcHost process. This change is automatic for systems with more than 3.5 GB of RAM running the Client Desktop SKU. On systems with 3.5 GB or less RAM, we'll continue to group services into a shared SvcHost process... ...The total number of service instances and the resulting memory utilization varies depending on activity. Instance counts can typically range from approximately 17-21 for grouped services, and 67-74 for separated services." So, to get to the bottom of 'how many processes do you have running' we need to know not just the number of processes, but your OS and if Win10 if you are running version 1703 or higher... If the user removes editable params, they should be removed at the instance also. If they add a param, then is should become available and use the default value of whatever is in the comp - even a blank value.

Hi Premiopolis, Don't mistake me for an expert on this! But I am an expert database programmer and I think the Adobe guys would get what I'm saying. I don't think there would be a need to expose all properties, but in the inheritance I was explaining. If you add the two lines, then all the instances of that graphic would inherit two lines and they would be immediately available in all. Of course if say the original two lines were fairly low on the screen, then the new lines (assuming under for now) would be as the original and thus mabye too low, and you'd probably have to visit each instance and adjust the screen position. Then again! If you hadn't adjusted the position (using the default / as you created it) location on the screen, then those new instances would inherit the new location (assuming you moved it up a bit) and you may be good to go!

That's how it would make sense. In our database programming we instantiate an object (think MOGRT) and we have all the properties available to us (save for ones marked 'hidden'). If the base class or MOGRT is changed, all instances inherit the change. However, if you've change a property at the instance, (like say a person's name in a lower-third), then that property at the instance overrides the main object. Same would happen if at the instance you changed a blue line to red. The blue line at the instance overrides the one just for that instance. However you could make a subclass (or another master MOGURT) from the main object and give that a blue line, and then all instances of that would inherit the blue line and if you used the original (MOGURT) as an instance it would still have the red line.

There are 4 tests, 3 take about a minute each and one takes 5-7 minutes. So it's about a 10-12 minute process. You won't get the summation without doing all 4 tests.

Hey PrashantMac, the 3rd test is in the same timeline as the 2nd, just move the playhead forward a few frames for the new instructions. You can use the default Adobe name for the project when it asks to convert, the exported file names will not change. Just make sure to delete any existing EXPORT files (only) before you run PPBM again, otherwise Adobe will rename the export files for you also.

Did you catch the 3rd test where you turn off Mercury Playback. That test will take more than a minute and if you are missing a test you get that error from the .vbs.

Thanks Bill, I really appreciate the feedback. I had the core clock at 44/45. Two of my cores 2 + 4 run about 3-5* hotter than the others with full load. So, I was trying some overclocking at the time to balance out the temps and thus ran the other cores faster. I was pulling in 301-305 on the disk i/o tests. I left it at 4.4ghz in the end so I could use the Asus recommended "sync all cores". On the 1070, I did have the memory clock raised just a bit. I did some overclocking on the clock speed and I was able to get +75->100 to run with the Heaven benchmark. In the end, the 1070 FTW2 is already clocked quickly and seems plenty fast, so I've left the 1070 at default settings for day to day work, but run XOC at startup to spin up the fans from their default 'off' (bummer you need to have the software running to speed up the fans. (unlike the computer BIOS (uefi)). Here's a screen shot of Crystal having run the two 960 (F: PRO, c: EVO) at the same time.

Start from scratch. Make sure none of the exported files are in the folder (where they are to be saved) before you begin. Otherwise PP will offer the file name with an increment number. Just delete them all or start with a new export folder. Go thru the 4 exports and then copy in the .vbs (Statistics PPBM11.vbs) file and run it.

I've been up and running of course, but still tweaking it here and there. Was able to run PPBM many times, I got good at it. Even had a shortcut to Project Settings/General. This was my best run. Left the system just a tick down on this at 44ghz on all cores at 1.225v, VERY QUIET! I hadn't realized before that the Windows Power settings manipulated the CPU clock speeds. I wanted to keep my processor and GPU clocking down at idle and managed that well. I got 18's on the Disk I/O several times otherwise it was 19. This was C: (960evo) OS/Programs/Default Cache and previews, F: Project, Files and Export (960pro). Only the h.264 times seemed a bit off. Tried running it in different ways, but kept getting around 60-63. BTW: Saw some drop off in speed having SnagIt open.

In the first picture I see you are running in "PCI Gen 1 x 4" and the second in "PCI Gen 3 x 4". I was having the problem instead of running in "PCI Gen 3 x 1" - then "3 x 2" when trying every option I could think of in the bios to get it back to x4. I knew it had run that way from initial tests just trying the various parts). After I saw in Windows "Disk Manager" the EVO was drive 1 and the PRO was drive 0, I switched them around physically so the PRO was now in the upright m.2 slot in my Asus x99 Deluxe II. That sorted it in Windows on my boot drive (EVO) was now drive 0. (I know, it's a bit... retentive - I just like them right if possible). I went on to other stuff and then came back when installing software: Since I tried all bios settings I could and it was not working for me, I fianlly had to go back to the original locations of the drives, (the boot EVO now in the upright m.2 slot (drive 1) and the pro is in the hyper-card (drive 0) and both are running at x4 with no special bios settings. So, only the physically changing of the drive location in the motherboard made the change. ?

Thanks Bill Gehrke, those are quite helpful. RoninEdits, good call! The XMP switch was set to on. I must of hit it plugging something in there. So, G.Skill did OK on the RMA. I sent them the memory on the 19th, got there on the 20th, they put the new set back in the mail on the 21st, I received it Saturday the 22nd. So, pretty good turn-around. Only problem was the first dude I talked to, sounded like he didn't know what was happening. But the other two I had contact with were on the ball. So, I've run prime95, Windows Memory Diagnostics and memtest86+ and all seems well. Will start configuring my Windows now. I've installed it 3 or 4 times already just trying different stuff, with the testing and all.

OK build month! So, the rig was mostly built and I started running some items on there. I ran 3DMark on it, and mostly it ran well and reported it to be very good. Except it rebooted a few times. So I got out some stress test software. I started to run Prime95 on it. The default test Blended caused an immediate BSOD. Tried again, same deal. Tried the Small FFT and that ran thru. Then Blended again which caused a reboot. So, I ran the Windows built in “Memory Diagnostic Tool” and after a short time it reported ‘hardware’ issues. So, I got out MemTest86+, and ran it overnight that too reported bad memory and 252 errors. So, yesterday I RMA'd the memory. G.Skill has some crazy times on their website which end up totaling 10 days, I managed to get hold of someone via chat and he said he would expedite. They told me on the phone today the memory shipped so I may get it tomorrow. That wouldn't be too painful. All in all, looking good, and I'm happy with it. It's super quiet, that's for sure. First thing though, I was happily watching Bill Gehrke explain that 'you should not have much more than 70 processes running' which I have on my current machine (Win 7), but Win 10 has like 150 running with the initial install!! Yikes! So, I'm going to need some optimization. If anyone can point me to a good itemized reference, that would be great. Also, somehow I think my bios got set to XMP on, and thus some test software was saying I had an overclock going. Which I didn't do anything to setup. So, does having XMP on constitute an overclock? And does that default to on? Here's an a couple shots of my rig:
