Yeah, pretty much. Start with two ellipses, then the rectangles. Smart Guides will help you snap to the ellipses. Once you have all the base shapes drawn, you can use the pathfinder tools Minus Front and Unite to combine them.

That's about as geometric as it gets, so it would be better done using shape tools rather than the pen tool. I'd start by drawing two concentric circles based on the bottom of the B, and all the other pieces else can be built from there. The tapered straight portions would be rectangles with one rounded corner.

No. You just preferred the appearance of colours in an application that was displaying them wrongly. Fine, so long as these colours will only ever been seen by you, on your laptop, in your non-colour-managed software. Everyone else will see something significantly different. If you want to avoid that, learn colour management. The first step is to stop disputing its base principles.

I'm presuming this is a saddle stitched booklet. They probably don't actually need the bleed on the spine/inside, as there will be a fold there rather than a trim. If your ID document is set up as spreads, set your bleed to 3mm on all edges except the inside, and then do as Derek advised.

You could start that thread. It would be pretty short, with Steve's answer being marked as 'correct'. Or you could tell us your specific issue and someone might be inclined to try helping you with it. I use Typekit, along with FontExplorer. They integrate quite well (it would be nice if FontExplorer let you permanently deactivate Typekit fonts like it does other cloud fonts, though), and the range of fonts you get with Typekit pretty fantastic, so I'm pretty happy.

Is there any particular reason you're making a PDF and opening that in Acrobat to export the JPG? You'd probably be better off either exporting directly from Illustrator, or opening/placing the AI file in Photoshop and saving from there.

Hi all. I have a multilevel list to format, where in some cases there need to be two levels on one line. See screenshot: Number 5 is fine, as the text on first line is all Level 1. But 6 is numbered (Level 1) and goes straight into an alphabetical list (Level 2). I've put a return in the example so I could still apply the Level 2 Paragraph Style, but it really needs to knocked up a line and be separated by a tab. Is there a way to achieve this while keeping it a properly formatted list using Paragraph Styles? Hopefully this explains it, but let me know if it doesn't! Thanks.

Personally, I'd say A, but maybe you could reduce the gutter and increase the space above and below the image to make it more obvious to the reader. Or vice-versa if you went with B. But as Willi says, it depends on the content, particularly if the image is referenced in the text.

Hi all. I'm trying to create a Preflight Profile that converts specific CMYK values to specific Pantone spot colours. I've done this successfully before for different colours/clients, but I'm running into trouble with this one. Here are screenshots showing the output preview hovering over the CMYK orange and blue in question: Firstly, when I try to edit the ‘Covert to spot color’ fixup, I get this error: But if I switch to List View, it works, and I set this up: So I OK that, save the fixup and profile, and try running the profile, but it doesn't run that particular fixup. Here's the completed window: It's run the other two fixups in the profile (the normalize ones), but not the spot conversions. Does anyone know what might be going wrong, or how I could better go about this? I'm using Acrobat DC 17.009.20044, under OS X 10.12.4 Thanks.

I hadn't specifically, no. Thanks for that. The mean reason I wanted the images was to use them to generate Live Captions of the colour names in a brochure in InDesign. But since my layout will require some names to run over more than one line, and Live Captions can't do that , I've opted to just use the actual ASE swatches and copy & paste the names in. I will try the script, though.

Hi all. I've created a series of ASE files of LAB swatches based on spectrometer readings of different ranges of furniture surface colours. I'm looking to create a series of PSD files, at a specific size and resolution, filled with each of these swatch colours, with the file names matching the swatch names. Looks like the image has the AdobeRGB profile assigned. If that's the case, then the image on the right, in Photoshop, is the correct colours (as intended by whoever assigned that profile). If you prefer the appearance on the left, Edit > Assign Profile, and try assigning sRGB.

Hi all. I think this may be a long shot, but it's worth a try. I'm working on a brochure with lots of keys showing the surface colours and patterns used in CGI renders of kitchens. For the patterned surfaces, I've used images, so it's easy to set a Live Caption from the Title field in the metadata. But for the flat colours, I'm using swatch libraries from spectrometer readings (see screenshot). Does anyone know a way of creating a Live Caption or text variable that would caption the image based on the swatch name? I think the captions could be generated with a script, but I'd prefer to keep them dynamic if at all possible. Any ideas? Thanks.

InDesign's Sep Preview does show the default black converting to 4-color when the blend space is RGB—the numbers match what you would get exporting to flattened document CMYK (PDF/X-1a). But if you export to PDF/X-4 the 100%K value is maintained (a huge plus for using X4). You would have to worry whether it will stay that way all the way to output, but if I flatten over in AcrobatPro the 100% black still holds. Well I never. Overprint Preview's false display of black and tints of black converting to RGB has always been my main reason to stick with CMYK blend space, even though RGB would be better.
