I have actually removed InDesign from my development process. I am creating electronic books in PowerPoint. Actually reduces my development timeline. I still use Photoshop, Illustrator, and Animate, but am looking for alternatives. We pay too much money to Adobe to be treated in this manner.

All well and good, but you're stating that Adobe not being entirely wrong blaming users' networks let's them off too easily. If this were truly a user network issue, Adobe would have sent in one of their fan-boy minions to provide us with network settings leading to a fix. That won't happen because they'd rather we didn't know what was going on through the back door. Ask your IT department to place a sniffer on your computer while using UnDesign. It's an interesting little exercise.

I used a sniffer back when they first created this problem in the 2015 update. I was pretty surprised at what they were sending to the Adobe servers. Personally I think they stepped over the line and are grabbing what I consider to be proprietary information. I uninstalled 2015. I won't install again until they fix the problem.

I'm going to use a port sniffer and record what Adobe is sending back and forth. I'm going to send the results to the company's lawyer. Last time I did a sniff test, Adobe was sending almost every keystroke back to their servers. This is why I stopped using anything past 2015. I feared our company's proprietary information may have been traveling back to Adobe. If so, this may be a Vizio television incident.

littleprint. The reason her system work is BECAUSE she's running 2015. That was the last stable version. My suggestion to everyone here is to use 2015 and paste the following into every publication: "Created using Adobe InDesign CC 2015 because they haven't created a stable program since then." I have it in every book I create as an EasterEgg. More than 2000 copies so far.

Hi Chris, Thanks for the suggestions! Won't install the new version because I saw how slowly it operated on a colleagues computer. Decided to search for the "InDesign is slow" and figured they hadn't fixed the concern. To be honest, I don't even know what suitcase is (I can guess it's a new portability feature). I can't in good conscience install it on my computer. My income is too deadline dependent. Adobe needs to do what they are getting paid to do, fix the problem and provide users with a quality product. In 2014, we were all in hog heaven. Wouldn't it be nice to have the new features without the bloatware and it's hefty speed price tag?

This must be a rhetorical question. We know that Adobe is trying to promote the cloud and relegated InDesign to Model T speeds as a result. The way it communicates with cloud services to save the document during use even when you turn OFF cloud services is probably the primary reason InDesign is slow.

InDesign has been unusably slow since the 2016 version instituted libraries, and other creative cloud services. We know WHY the program is slow. What we would like is a fix. Thanks!

I made the mistake of updating my Illustrator software to the CC 2017 version and now any symbol I created is a non-editable waste of space. This will cost me loads of time! Please do NOT scold me about not reading some read-me file warning I should have seen before updating. Instead, please tell me how I can revert to Illustrator 2016 so I can meet my deadlines without working all weekend.

Your only hope is to revert to the 2014 version. Adobe was having a sale on CC for the last week. If the software actually worked, I probably would have subscribed. Until they quit trying to send every move you make inside the software to their servers, I'll keep away.

While you are correct about the benefits of the subscription and the cloud, the double-edged sword has been the death of thousand small cuts for some of us. My materials are proprietary and so use of the cloud violates my company's policy. If I could get in there and shut the whole thing down, I would. Also, because I can't use the cloud, I wanted to use the symbol library in Illustrator as my local repository. Too bad, so sad because the processing Adobe performs on my symbols renders them unusable after I pull them out of the library. The hoops are just getting to tight to jump through. Ok, now I'll have a little cheese.

I have noticed that the InDesign speed issue is still not resolved. I've looked at clouds from both sides now, from near and far, but still somehow, it's clouds illusions I recall, I really don't like clouds at all. In addition to the InDesign speed problem, Adobe has decided to put their need to push us to their cloud in the direct path of my workflow. Today I downloaded Inkscape and I will have to find a new graphic design program to replace Photoshop and InDesign. It will take me a while to learn and I will lose the excellent workflow I used to have before Creative Cloud became a Microsoft-style bloatware mess. But I can no longer rely on what used to be a great product. OK Adobe, Either get the bean counters out of the software development process or continue to lose customers.

This is exactly my process for updating. I'm on a windows 7 machine. ID 2015 is still slow as molasses regardless of my settings or preferences. Kinda sad when a program can't keep up with my slow-^$$ typing. If the boss decides to keep the subscription, I'll wait until a few months after 2016 is released to see if the situation improves.

Sorry, nothing brilliant. But unless customers demand that Adobe do something about the bloatware, nothing will happen. I keep seeing customer-suggested workarounds that may or may not be of any help to a particular user. The most effective seems to be "disconnect from the web while using InDesign." Not an option for most folks in the corporate world. Imagine you are the boss hearing this excuse: "Sorry, I didn't get your email because I was using an Adobe product." You can almost hear the falling Creative Cloud subscriptions . Using the 2014 version is my only option at present. When our subscription period is over, my boss will ask for a business case rationalizing the cost of CC. And while I hate losing a good set of tools, I'll have a hard time convincing him we should continue with the expense. *sigh* is right

Not weird at all. You're disabling the cloud services that are creating the problem. Adobe won't fix this one for a long time because they're more interested in the profits they may gain from cloud services.

[unnecessary personal attack deleted by moderator]. What you're telling folks is that Adobe went so far into the computer's system files that they fried the whole computer. While this may be true, as it seems obvious that whoever designed the cloud features in CC2015 seems to care more about making his/her bosses happy than making Adobe's customers happy, it would have to be one of the worst programming gaffes by a major player ever. Please do not follow this guy's advice without written notice from Adobe.

I hope you're right, but I'll be watching for posts indicating the problem is fixed before performing any upgrades. And I won't perform any updates until after I've read reviews. No more automatic updates and we are seriously searching for different software.

You don't have to redo the work. Save the files as idml and reopen in 2014. Yes, it's a pain but it will save time in the long run.

This is a problem caused by Adobe trying to sync everything to the cloud. A simple network sniffer can prove it out. The ONLY way to avoid the problem in to go back to 2014.

While I think it's great you all found a temporary workaround, I'm almost disappointed you are sharing your stories. If the developers ever do fix this issue, you can almost guarantee they will use your workaround to prevent people from stopping the cloud sharing functions. In the meantime, I continue using the 2014 version.

The problem, IMO, is that Adobe is more concerned about promoting their cloud service than making user-friendly programming choices. It's too bad really. They're bound to lose customers when they put the needs of the product promotion team and the IT department ahead of their user's needs.

Pretty sure internet speeds have nothing to do with it. The issue is as old as networks. The developers tested it on internal networks, knew this would happen and the bean counters and managers told them to release it anyway.
