I don't usually bother with nesting styles, but I've got a textbook project with tricksy formatting, so I've made some basic folders to help corral the approximately one zillion styles I've got going on. But I've run into an oddity: I wanted to change a character style wherever it appeared in a certain nested paragraph style, so I selected both in the appropriate dialog box, but when I get back to the main find and replace dialog, it's got the folder name rather than the paragraph style name in the find field. I've been exporting EPUBs with the footnote placement inside a popup. But if that feature's not available on most devices, then it's worse than useless. Especially as it defaults to sticking them, unnumbered, at the end of a section. And some devices (e.g., Kindle for Android) you can't even jump back to your place in the text. It seems as if end-of-paragraph notes would be most user-friendly, but ugh...how unsightly! Every option is bad. So...which of the bad options do you use, and have you found any way to mitigate the badness? I hate, hate, hate that there's no way to provide users with aesthetically pleasing and easily navigable notes! 266 million ebooks were sold last year in the U.S., so you'd think that somebody would come up with better solutions. ~Valerie P.S. Despite doing everything the same (I think) as I've previously done for inline images in in EPUBs, the images in my current project just aren't behaving themselves. I have a feeling that I need to go back to basics and really learn how to do images right rather than just guessing my way through and hoping something I try will work. I need to add style="max-height=100%" to all of the images in a book. I think it needs to go somewhere in the XHTML files, correct? Can someone tell me where (in the sample one below)? And is there a magic way I can apply this style to all images at once? Thanks! ~Valerie ... View more

One of my clients is trying to get some books distributed on OverDrive. The contact there has made the following requests: Cover art image and title page image is often cut off. To keep the cover, title page, and publication page images from being cut off in Adobe Digital Editions, change the EPUB package version number inside the .opf from "3.0" to "2.0" and change the image source style inside the cover.xhtml page from max-width to max-height. Also, to keep 1.jpg and 2.jpg from showing up stacked on top of each other in the same page or cut off, depending on the user's chosen screen size, the images in the first few pages should be split up into separate .xhtml files I assume changing from 3.0 to 2.01 in the EPUB export dialog box will take care of the first issue. But I have never touched an XHTML file in all my born days and therefore have no idea how to resolve the other issues. Help? Thanks! ~Valerie ... View more
