I think the answer is to- Plug the external drive into the desktop,  (the drive with both catalog and photos) Use Finder/Explorer to locate the catalog (xxxx.LRCAT) file on the external drive. Double click the xxxx.LRCAT file. This should open Lightroom with your catalog intact and complete. If you find that images are 'missing' [!]  or folders are 'missing' [?], then seek further advice. When you design a custom layout for a print collage, you can do two major things- 1. Create a "Saved Print" by clicking on the tab above the window. This saves the print design AND the photos you have used as a Collection in the Collections panel. You can return to the same print at any time, or add other photos to this collection to use the same layout 2. Save the layout as a template (for later use). This template will appear in the "Template Browser" panel and can be used with any photos you select from the Library. So to create prints in future you can select photos, select the template (you created) and print to printer or print to JPG as you wish. Are you using Dropbox to sync the catalog from IMac to MacBook & visaversa ? It is possible you have different versions of the catalog for each computer and the Photoshop file is only being added to the catalog that is  currently active. Catalogs must reside on a fixed internal drive or a connected external drive. If you move the external drive between computers with all your image files, you would be better to have the one catalog on that same drive, so it 'travels' with the photos, and no possibility of syncing problems. ... Lightroom is a 'raw parametric' editor- it does not alter  your raw photos. Photoshop is a 'Pixel' editor- It only works with pixel images (psd, tiff, jpg, etc) Editing done in Ps alters the pixels in the photo, but it is a 'new' file that is created separate from the original raw image file. When you select a raw photo file and "Edit in Photoshop" a new pixel file is created automatically in Photoshop (as in my Post#2 above), without you having to manually export a file from Lr. ... You should do some reading and research into how Lightroom works because you are doing things the hard way. To edit a raw file in Photoshop- 1. Select  (highlight) the file in the Lightroom Library grid view 2. Press CTRL+E  (or right-click the file and select "Edit in Photoshop") 3. Do all the edits in Ps 4. "Save" the file in Ps.  (Do NOT use "Save As" or change names or locations.)  (I simply Ctrl+S to save, then CTRL+W to close.) 5. Click back on  Lightroom. Your edited Photoshop image will now be back in Lightroom library, in the same folder, with a file name like "originalname-edit.tiff" for example, and if sort order is "Filename" then it will sit exactly beside the original in the grid view. ... Disappointment is easily overcome- 1. In the library grid mode- press CTRL+A  to select All photos 2. Press V All the photos are now B&W. I did a little google research, and agree that 'Local tone mapping' is close to Lr Dehaze with some similarity to Lr Clarity. But in sample images I saw it also seems to affect shadows and highlights to a greater extent. (especially when pushed to extreme!) The PSP term "Local" is also misleading in that the slider adjusts the whole image and to be confined to particular areas, layers and masks are needed as would Photoshop. Lr has the true "Local" adjustment tools that can apply dehaze and clarity and all the other adjustment sliders with one stroke of the brush. ... View more

+ one collection. You must also create a "Saved Book Collection"  and only ever work the book design from that. If you set the Book Collection sort order to 'Custom', then adding images or combining other collections will help to keep the images in their 'theme' group. (any other sort will re-arrange the order of images) Do your custom sort in the Book Collection in Grid view before adding images to the pages (manually or auto-fill). Custom sort allows you to drag&drop single or multiple images anywhere in the collection sort order. "stack this group" also a great hint- thanks John B. (a hint I had never considered!) I am so 'Old School' that I believe that "Tone mapping" is just a new term for adjusting tones (mostly luminance values?). And we talk about- Levels, Curves, Whites, Blacks, Shadows, Highlights, etc, etc. Applying "Local Tone Mapping" in Lightroom is entirely possible by using the Local Adjustment Tools- Brush, Gradient, Radial Filter. Is it possible that Lr v1  could import from the SD card by using the "ADD" option? (not possible with later versions) If photos were imported using 'ADD'  then the SD card must be plugged in for Lr to 'see' the photos on the SD and allow you to develop the photo.
