Hi Rob, I'm not Adobe staff, but I would suggest resetting your preferences - hold down Alt/Opt as you launch the application and choose to reset. Note that this will set all your preferences back to their defaults, so you will have to change back any that you didn't have at their defaults. (Some people find it helpful to take screenshots of the Preferences tabs before resetting.)

I suspect that in Preferences on the General tab you have set LR to always open a specific catalog, and it is not the catalog that you are making the edits in. Open LR, go to File>Open Recent, and choose the top one (which will be the one you were in before this one). If this recovers your edits, go into Preferences and choose this catalog as the one to always load.

I don't know for sure if this is still the case, but it used to be that installing Apple's free QuickTime application would resolve some of these issues - I'd suggest trying it.

Unfortunately there are no raw+JPEG management tools in Lightroom CC at this point. The easiest way to not import the JPEGs would be to copy all the files off your memory card to a temporary folder on your hard drive, delete the JPEGs from there or move them to a separate subfolder, then import what's left into LR CC. Otherwise in the Import dialog you can uncheck photos you don't want to import, but you'll have to do that one at a time to uncheck all the JPEGs, and the only way to see file names is to hover over a thumbnail and wait.

In grid view, select all the photos and type V - this will convert black and white images to color and vice versa - but all the other edits that you did to optimize the black and white versions (such as increased contrast and color) will still be present. Stepping back in History one image at a time is the alternative. I agree on using VCs - select all the images in grid view, right click in one and choose Create Virtual Copy. Then use the Library Filter bar, Attribute tab, to filter to just see the VCs (look for the icon with the turned up page corner) - edit and export, then turn the filter off.

It sounds to me like all but one of each set are virtual copies. In the grid, do they have a turned up page corner? (If your grid is completely clean with no info about the photos, type J once or twice to see more, including the bottom left turned up page corner indicating a virtual copy. Delete the virtual copies, but not the masters.

I totally understand being overwhelmed with Lightroom! Once you get to know it, you'll find that it's a great program. I agree with Jim - definitely watch some training videos right now so that you get off on the right foot, particularly since Lightroom's use of a catalog really can be confusing at first, and not understanding it can lead to some painful mistakes. To answer your specific questions, in the Develop module (shortcut D), you'll find the crop tool under the histogram (in the top right): After you finish cropping, click back on the crop tool icon to put the tool away. To share files with the outside world, you'll export JPEG copies. The Export button is in the bottom left in the Library module (shortcut "G" for Grid). In the location section specify where on your computer you'd like to store the copy, then in the file settings section specify file type JPEG, color space sRGB, and for the sake of avoiding a long explanation, Quality=80. Then check Resize to Fit, and specify the size you want in pixels. Alternatively, Lightroom has a great feature in the Library module for uploading photos directly to Facebook called "Publish Services". Here's a video from Julieanne Post on this. Thanks for the explanation. in LR mobile you can copy settings from one photo to another. In Edit view, click on the three dots in the top right, choose Copy Settings, then select your other photo and choose Paste Settings. This can also be done on LR on your desktop.

I'm not sure what you mean by "import settings on my Fuji camera", NickL-G. If you imported from your memory card to your iPad, then imported those into LR mobile, then LR should have imported the full res files, uploaded those to the cloud, and then replaced what's in LR mobile with smaller smart previews. The edits that you do with smart previews will automatically be applied to the full size files in LR Desktop.

To import them directly into LR, Jimna, you would have to purchase LR 6 and update to 6.7 or purchase the subscription and update to 2015.7. However, if you first use Adobe's free DNG converter to convert your raw files to Adobe's DNG raw format, you can then import them directly into LR 5.7.1.

If I understand your second issue correctly, you're saying that in the Source panel on the left side of the Import dialog, you expect to see individual image files and not just folders. It is designed to just show folders though - select a folder, and then if you don't want to import all photos that are within it, uncheck them in the grid. Note that when you have the Desktop folder selected, as you show in the screenshot, you are seeing only images that reside directly in that folder. If you also want to see and import images that reside in subfolders of Desktop, then check "Include in Subfolders" up at the top of the panel. I agree with dj_paige - post a screenshot of the PC issue.

They are shaded around the edges because they are unchecked. Click Check All in the bottom left, or put a check mark in the box on each thumbnail you want to import.

You'll find a small exclamation point in the top right above the thumbnail, RB, indicating that the file is missing. I'd suggest deleting from within Lightroom instead of outside of it so that you don't have to deal with this.

I'm afraid I don't have the answer, then, Richard. Have you tried viewing the map of the tracklog in a different application, such as the Android app you recorded it in, and have you verified that the tracklog did start recording before you started shooting? If all this looks good, then I'd suggest posting your issue, with supporting information, on this Adobe page for reporting problems.

Just to be a bit more precise, on the Lightroom mobile tab in Preferences (Lightroom>Preferences on Mac, Edit>Preferences on PC), in the Location section you specify where the photos synced from LrM will be stored on your hard drive. By default they are stored in a .lrdata database in your user folder. I recommend changing this to instead store them with the rest of your photos. Changing this setting will change the location for future syncs. For past ones, use the Folders panel in the Library module to drag them where you'd like to store them. (Here's more information on how to use the Folders panel in Lightroom to reorganize your photos and folders.)

Hi Linda, I didn't look through and compare the presets, but you can easily create this yourself in Lightroom Desktop. On your iPad select a photo that you have not worked on at all. Apply the preset. Once the photo and work are synced back to Lightroom on your desktop, in the Develop module you would generally want to look through the panels on the right to see what work the preset did. I did this and saw only B&W panel work - it was converted to B&W and the B&W mix sliders had changed. Now to create your preset Click on the + to the right of Presets at the top of the panel and give the new preset a name. Check the Treatment and Black and White Mix boxes and then hit Create. Finally to test the preset, reset the photo you worked on and then apply the preset - it should look the same (you can click back and forth in History to compare - click on the step before Reset, then the last step applying your preset.

Perhaps you have changed the defaults in the Develop module. In Develop, hold down the Alt key (PC) or Opt key (Mac), and you'll see the Reset button change to Set Default... Click on this and then on Restore Adobe Defaults - but of course this will reset any other settings you had set new defaults on. This will take affect for future imports, it will not fix photos already imported.

As ManiacJoe says, to make photos an exact size in pixels, you'll crop to your desired proportions in LR and then specify size in pixels in Export. I'd suggest using Quick Develop in the Library module to get to the same proportions. In Grid view, select all your photos, then in the Quick Develop panel click on the triangle to the right of Saved Preset and when it appears, click on the dropdown next to Crop Ratio, Enter Custom, and type in your proportions. (If you want, for example, 2582 pixels wide by 4527 pixels high, then type in 2582x4527. LR will change this to 2.582x4.527, but that's OK because these are the same proportions. Once you hit OK, LR will crop all your photos. Next, if necessary (maybe not), go into the crop tool in Develop (R) and go photo by photo fine tuning which portion of each photo is cropped off. Finally, export all of them, setting pixel size in the Resize to Fit section. Here's a video tutorial that shows using the Quick Develop panel for quick cropping of many photos.

Lightroom catalogs reside on each computer, and photos in one can't be seen in another. If you regularly work on two machines, consider putting your catalog on an external drive (along with your photos). Then you can open that one catalog from either machine with File>Open Catalog and you'll have all your photos and work. Here's an article explaining this, and here's one on how to move your catalog. You'll then also need to merge the two catalogs you have into one. This is covered in my recording on how to clean up Lightroom. Having your catalog on an external drive may slow it down some, but I would give it a try. Another option is to put it in Dropbox, but you have to be very, very careful not to use it on your second machine until Lightroom on your first one finishes writing to it, you close LR, and Dropbox syncs. If, on the other hand, you only occasionally work on a second computer, such as a laptop when you're traveling, use this technique instead to import that laptop catalog and those images into your main one when you get home.

Hi photofan, this typically happens when you have a file of the same name in the folder you're trying to drag the first into. The second one is usually not in Lightroom, but it is still out on your hard drive. Right-click on the folder in the Folders panel, choose Show in Finder/Explorer, and look for the file out there. Delete or rename it, and then the one in LR will move properly.
