I'm mystified as to why buttons have Active and Inactive
timing. What is the advantage of having an Inactive timing?
I'm working with a slide that has a button that when clicked
goes to the next slide. I also have a text entry box which has one
correct answer, and is allowing 3 attempts before going to the next
slide. No matter what changes I make to the timing of the pause,
the slide acts the same. Is there a purpose to having an Inactive
state for the button in this case?

Hi Rick,
Thanks for the suggestion. I want to make sure that I
understand you correctly.
In my case, there are no "expected" entries since the entries
are people's names which could be any combination of alphabetic
characters.
I gather from your suggestions that there is no way for the
actual text entered by the learner into the Text Entry Box on one
of the slides to appear in the same fields of subsequent slides. If
that is the case, I really have no way to duplicate what the user
entered on one slide into subsequent slides. Is this correct?
If so, I wonder if there is another way to accomplish
this.

I need to simulate filling out a form in Captivate. There are
no correct entries -- anything the learner types in the form would
be correct; therefore, I didn't type anything into the Correct
Entry area for the Text Entry Boxes. The shortcut key to go from
one text entry box to another is ENTER. Each text entry field on
the form has the following settings: Infinite attempts, Display for
rest of slide, On Success Continue, Appear after zero seconds, No
Transition, Pause for success/failure captions.
The problem is that the ENTER key isn't working. The learner
fills out the first text entry box, hits ENTER, and nothing
happens. They are able to click in the next text enter box and type
information, but don't have the convenience of hitting ENTER. The
learner should be able to click in the first text entry box, hit
ENTER, jump to the next text entry box, fill it out, hit ENTER to
get to the third text entry box, and for forth.
I've spent quite a bit of time trying to make this work. If
anyone has a suggestion, I'd be so grateful.

Sounds like that means that the EXE would NOT be openable on a

I inserted a Multiple Choice Question and specified Single
Response. An Advanced button appeared, and when clicked offers
Advanced Answer Options that include Answer, Action, and Show
feedback message. I tried turning these Advanced options on and off
and don't see any difference when previewing the question slide.
What is the purpose of the Advanced Answer Options?

I right-clicked on a library item and choose to edit it in
Photoshop. It opened in Photoshop just fine, but when I saved and
closed it, Captivate hung. I've tried this several time using
different images, with the same results. Is this possibly a bug or
a lack of enough memory on my computer?

I have a NEXT button on each page of the project which is set
to "Include in Quiz" with 1 point and "Add to Total." If a learner
clicks the NEXT button, then goes back to a previous slide, and
clicks the NEXT button a second time, will they get two points
instead of one? In other words, does the learner get a point every
time they click on the same button?

Thanks. I did a Find in Notepad and found the code. I'm a
little hesitant to use the tip, though, because it says that it
works for Internet Explorer and FireFox, which implies that it
doesn't work in all browsers.

Thanks again for your helpful comments. Since I already purchased FrameMaker 8 and Captivate 3 separately from the Tech Comm Suite, and the suite is rather costly, I'd prefer to make this work with Mif2Go, but I'll try both for comparison.

Is version 8 of FrameMaker, which is included in the Tech Comm Suite, identical to version 8 of FrameMaker purchased separately? If so, then it sounds like Robohelp enables FrameMaker to save as CHM. I have FrameMaker 8, but not the Tech Comm Suite and have never used Robohelp (or Mif2Go). If you have any further comments or suggestions, I'd be interested.

Is it possible to speed up the default for Captivate so that
the mouse moves more quickly and the slides don't stay on the
screen as long? This is for a demo, so I don't think that changing
frame rate in preferences would do the trick.

icon? I'm able to change the end that has the white arrow, but am
not able to move the opposite end of the mouse icon.

The only book I've discovered is "Adobe Technical Communication Suite Classroom in a Book" which hasn't yet been released, and no release date has been given. Amazon.com is taking pre-orders. With only 480 pages for covering the whole suite, I wonder if there will be sufficient detail about FrameMaker 8.

I agree that the # symbol is not worth adding, but I need to add other symbols that are not easily accessible on the keyboard and require convoluted keyboard shortcuts. I hope that someone can help by explaining the procedure to add new symbols to the standard list of symbols that come with FrameMaker.
