Understand from your response that the text-flow setting should be made when creating a new document. Now that I have one with already considerable content, where can I go to change that setting if needed? I looked in inDesign Preferences and could not find the setting there. It's probably there (?), but I could not find it.

When I opened Preferences | Type, I found that Smart Text Reflow had already been checked. When I looked at its sub-properties, I changed the selection after "Add Pages to” from "End of Story” to “End of Section”. Then tried again. All text again piled up in the current page. tks, jwc

I just pasted some text from an external text editor into my open inDesign document, and was surprised to observe that that the text failed to flow onward into the next page. Could one of you please show me what setting(s) might need to be changed, to fix this.

Instructions call for user to select a prior state for use with history brush. So, how shall I create a prior state by setting, in another part of my image, the color with which I would like to paint using the history brush? Thanks, jwc

Thanks, very helpful as always. I found a default background color setting for the paragraph style in question, and corrected that. Still remaining, however, is a colored, vertical stripe to the left of the text box containing text just entered. Where does that come from, and what is it called, so that I can get rid of it? I really have no idea how it could have got there in the first place. It is almost like these authoring tools have "minds" of their own!

By default, my quick selection tool is set to select a color range. I need to select a geometrical range. In this present case my desired selection is defined by a distinct shape with distinct, contrasting colors. I have done this before, many times. Just cannot recall which tool to select, and how to set it up. jwc

Using Photoshop v. 2017.0.0, I want to select the current object of more-or-less uniform colors surrounding the cursor. I'm assuming that I should use the quick-selection tool for this. Where is the icon for the quick-selection tool now located, in PS v. 2017? I know that I have done this in the past, just having a recall issue about how to select/configure an existing tool, with which I can create a selection within an image, which I can then copy and paste into another image. Hope this is clear (?).

I just downloaded and installed Adobe inDesign 2017. On startup after installation, when I open a selection dialog, all .indd files are greyed-out. I cannot select ay of them for editing in inDesign. If anyone can show me how to fix this, would be grateful.

If I understand the exif tool description correctly, it will only _identify_ the image files that contain the "false positive" keyword, not the location of the offending phrase within photo metadata, which is a warren of (sub)sections,; searching through it is a time-consuming search process. I have, literally, hundreds of images currently returning false-positives on my system. I already know which files appear to contain the false positive; I just cannot localize it within the file(s), in order to purge it.

Well, looking further at IPTC Core properties, I'm finding that to be a hit-or-miss proposition. After opening multiple files in Bridge, selecting File Info | IPTC Core, the field containing my desired "hot" entry,as found in the first example, did not even appear. Searched several other, single, "false-positive" files and did not find any entry containing the "false positive" value. So now I'm again on the lookout for a better tool to help me with this.

I have been using Adobe Bridge to search a collection of images for those in which all metadata contain a phrase, with a degree of success. I knew I had loaded my keywords with an encyclopedic set of catch-all words, that were eating-up the search engine efforts. I was getting literally thousands of false positives. To fix this, I selected those false positives in Adobe Bridge, and deleted all keywords from them. Well and good, I thought, but no: many of those images are STILL returning a false positive, despite the fact that those keywords have been stripped out of them. Question for you: where else in the image files, and using what recommended tool(s), shall I look to find these metadata in order to purge them?

For years I had been resizing photos in Photoshop using a third-party utility, whose name now escapes me. The idea is, as I recall, that ordinary, built-in, Photoshop resizing techniques are not too good at scaling-up the image content when serious increases in dimensions and/or image resolution are required. Can one of you please refresh my memory on this, how to go about it, package(s) to install, etc.

Something got reset in my clone stamp tool. Resetting tool options for that tool did not help. Expected behavior, which is to paint source color/pattern onto the target area, is not happening. Nothing changes when dragging, after selecting source area. Any ideas appreciated, as always.

Starting with two photos: (1), containing a cloudless sky and object(s) of interest in foreground, and (2), containing clouds in a similar, blue sky, could one of you please point me to a procedure to adjust sky color and blend the clouds from (2) into the sky of (1). I'm assuming that (2) is pasted into (1) as a new layer, but then what? Have tried various adjustments but "intuition" based on some years of Photoshop experience, is just not seeing me through this one. Thanks in advance.

Have never had opportunity to use inDesign paragraph rules, but wonder if a rule is exactly what is needed here, to avoid use of a paragraph separator between two elements of a table of contents. Each photo in my collection of photos has captions and descriptions. Caption is displayed under each photo in main body of book, and temporarily (see below), a description below and to right of caption. on the same page as the photo In back of book, a "pseudo-table-of-contents" (psTOC) is intended to display page number, caption and description of each photo, in that order, in a single paragraph. Caption and description are styled uniquely, and displayed with photo. On publication, description will be hidden (by changing text color to "none"). A descendant description-style for use in psTOC will remain black, however. When generating the psTOC, what is now happening is that, while caption is rendered right after the page number (as designed), the description (specified without page number) goes into a separate paragraph. What needs to happen is that the description follow immediately after the caption. At present, each description begins with a period and space for just this purpose. Another nice feature would be create a rule that adds the dot-space, to avoid that artifact in the description text. If you could show me how to accomplish this, would be grateful.

According to an earlier post by Peter in this thread, simply save/export your CS5 content as *.idml, and open in CS5.5; believe that should do it.

My indd document was created in iD CS5.5. On opening in iD CS5, there is a popup which says that SharedContent plugin was used in the creation of the file. The popup then provides the option to proceed anyway. Will I be safe doing that, or is there a workflow for installing the plugin in CS5?
