Yes, in the cases in which Premiere Pro can't get inside the source file to inject the XMP ID, it will use a sidecar XMP file instead. If you don't want these, then just turn of the option to write XMP IDs on import. Unchecking that option still makes Premiere write all these files.

In Windows Explorer you can se the order to TYPE in the Details view (i think that's the English name) then set it back to Thumbnails. XMP files are now at the bottom of the page.

Mpeg works just as well as dv avi. A normal HDV file is mpeg.

What you are looking for is only possible for the audio section with the Audio Mixer. What effect would you like to add to the whole video track? Nest and add the effect after you are done with editing the in and out points In Premiere Event is called Clip.

Try this. Preset YouTube and tweeked with preset iPhone settings from CS5. Did an export from CS5 and it worked perfectly, expect CS4 will be the same. And yes the extention is mp4. For good quality turn on Max Render Quality

Ctrl K only slices the tracks (audio and/or video) that are selected. If you select the Razor (C) and then hold down Shift it razors through every track regardless if it is selected or not.

Its even recommended when using Premiere Pro (check the forum) not to install ffshow or any codec pack because it messes up your system.

One should not have to install a codec pack and i have never installed a codec pack. In the very beginning of CS4 the preview worked. Then it stopped probably after an update. Besides ffdshow is already on my system (W7/64)

Unfortunately i cannot find my own old post: been complaining about this for a while now, not being able to preview hdv mpeg/m2t/m2v. This was in CS4 and now in CS5.

Nope. If you want burned in subtitles you are stuck to to titler. You do can copy text from say Word or some other text edtior. Alsoyou can use the option : 'new title based on current title' in the Titler or make a Style for the text or make a template.

No, you will need Mercalli from Prodad as a plugin or After Effects. Invest in a good tripod, saves a lot of bad footage. Edit: Ah Brian just beat me to it.

Don't export HD content to avi and then to dvd. Bad idea, this will cost you quality. HD is not DV. Export directly to mpeg2-dvd either in Premiere or Encore. If you want to use Encore for encoding use Dynamic Link and use default settings but make sure the field order is upper. Dont crop off the black bars on the side due to the way it is scaled down. Just leave it, you'll get used to it. Have fun.

The default setting for video is 30 frames, 1 second for audio and 150 frames for images.

If you just want to try some fonts out you dont have to install them Just open the .ttf and then Premiere. When opening the Titler the font apears in the dropdown menu.

You cannot fix overexposure. What is not there in pixels Premiere or AE cannot magically produce.

Insufficient media error means your clips do not have handles. Trim of 15 frames of the left clip on the right side and 15 frames on the left side of the right clip. Then your transition will work properly and no error message,
