On my Indesign 2019 you need to go to window>utilities>scripts. You will then find it under application>samples>javascript. It is called 'placeMultipagePDF.jsx'

I asked this below back in January 2018 but never received an answer. I notice it is doing the same in Indesign 2019: Indesign CC 2018 on Windows 10 If I place a Word doc with endnotes only the first page of the endnotes are placed. All other endnote pages are overset. This happens with all Word docs. I have tried various import options but the endnotes will not place fully. I have trashed my preferences. Anybody have this problem? Ian

Jongware seems to be right when he says, 'And then you'd have several sets of notes 1., 2., 3., ..., 1., 2., 3., and so on'. That seems to be how you end up and there does not seem to be any easy way you can transfer each set of endnotes. Ian

I don't think Indesign can start endnote numbering at each section. I think you have to separate the doc into separate stories.

It is because traditionally a left hand page is an even number. Therefore you do not usually have page 4 as page 1. If you have to do it make sure that you have "allow document page to shuffle" unchecked.

All I can suggest is you tick 'Customize Style Import' and check that the Word character styles are converting to the correct indesign character styles.

I have a Word doc which has endnotes entered manually as (1) (2) etc. When I place the Word doc in Indesign is there any way I can find these endnote numbers and replace with subscripted numbers. Thanks

I would place them as anchored objects To do this: Select the Type tool and click in text to position the text insertion point. Choose Object > Anchored Object > Insert. In the Object Options area at the top of the Insert Anchored Object dialog box, specify the Content for the object (such as Text or Graphic). Or place image then cut and paste it where you place the cursor.

Strangely if you open the IDML in CS6 it shows the double text boxes. If you open it in CC 2018 it does not show them.

There has been a lot of discussion on the failings of the endnote feature in Indesign CC2018. https://forums.adobe.com/thread/2404305 Most people are complaining about not having the ability to make multiple chapters with the endnotes at the end of the document numbering from 1 for each chapter. A workaround is to Set endnote options to “story” Make document more pages than you need Place the first chapter/article Go to the pages panel and move the endnotes pages to near the end of the document (say 40 pages from the end) Place the second chapter/article Go to the pages panel and move the endnotes pages for this chapter to after the endnotes page of the first chapter. You will then have separate chapters with the endnotes number from 1 for each chapter at the end of the document. The endnotes remain dynamic.
