I tried it your way and it still doesn't replicate the problem exactly. The stroke is still not quite as fat. At any rate deleting the preferences will set it back to default view and stroke.

To put transparent text on a sphere which has been created in the manner you described. See the steps in the screen shot below: Start with the sphere and set the text you need and convert it to outlines (picture one above). Then draw a shape around the sphere (it doesn't need to be form fitting) and make a compound path of it and the outlined text (Command/Control-8) (picture two). Then select the compound path and the sphere and make a clipping mask (Command/Control-7) (picture three). Picture four shows that the text is now transparent and allows the background color to show through.

I tested drawing a very tiny box with a one point rule and viewed it at the 16625% and it did not look like the example shown. At that magnification the stroke of even a tiny box zooms out of the viewing area on a 21 inch screen. Upon using the hand tool to find the stroke I found that it does not look at all like the disproportionate stroke shown here. I would still suggest deleting the preference files.

The type of work flow that my company is part of has the entire package of each job worked on locally. Our company (which is part of an international group of agencies) uses a cloud based server which will not even allow an InDesign file to be previewed onscreen so everything has to be downloaded and worked on locally. All jobs are self-contained units.

Working across a network could indeed be the cause of your speed problem. I work in a multi-user environment where we never work on the network and I could give you a list as long as yours why I would never want to work in any way but locally. I would suggest trying to work on a job in which you had this problem but on a copy downloaded to your local hard drive. See if it makes a difference.

Since your Stroke says it is set for 1 point in your control panel it may be that your preferences have become corrupted. To delete and reset Illustrator preferences: For Macintosh Users: With Illustrator closed launch a Finder Window in column view and click on your home folder. With the Option Key pressed choose Library from the Finder Go Menu. Within the Library folder find the following two files and delete them: “Adobe Illustrator <Version #> Settings” (earlier versions of Illustrator might just say “Adobe Illustrator”) and “com.adobe.Illustrator.plist”. When Illustrator is next launched it will create new preference files and the program will be restored to its defaults. After you’ve reset up the program (make sure that no document window is open) to your liking, it is a really good idea to create copies of your personalized “mint” preference files (make sure that you quit the program before copying them—that finalizes your customization) and use them in the future to replace any corrupt versions you may need to delete. For Windows Users: Hold down Ctrl + Alt + Shift when launching Illustrator and respond affirmatively when asked if you want to reset.

What 00rhodiad said seems to apply to when InDesign is pasted into Illustrator or Photoshop. But I thought that the question pertained to pasting into or within InDesign. I'm not sure that explanation fits for that.

I tried copying and pasting using the preference setting pointed out by TaW above and still could not make anything that I pasted both from within InDesign and from Illustrator act in this manner. Could you post a screen shot of your preferences for File Handling and Clipboard Handling? Any other possible personal settings that you do with InDesign would be helpful for assisting you. As far as I can tell this will not happen with InDesign's default settings.

Have you tried deleting your InDesign preferences? Obviously, this is not normal behavior for the program so try deleting preferences before possibly reinstalling InDesign. To delete preferences: For Macintosh Users: With InDesign closed launch a Finder Window in column view and click on your home folder. With the Option Key pressed choose Library from the Finder Go Menu. Within the Library folder find the following two files and delete them: “Adobe InDesign” and “com.adobe.InDesign.plist”. I can't think what possible connection there is between copying and pasting something either within InDesign or from an outside program like Illustrator or even one of the Microsoft Office programs and exporting a file as a pdf. Exporting a document as a pdf should have nothing to do with copying and pasting. Could you please explain what it is you're doing and what help you need.

Before you go to all the trouble of a complete reinstall try deleting your preference file for Illustrator. To do so: With Illustrator closed launch a Finder Window in column view and click on your home folder. With the Option Key pressed choose Library from the Finder Go Menu. I tested this on a Mac with CC 2017 and it works as it is supposed to. As Barbara said above it may just mean that your preferences need to be reset. To reset preferences in Windows: Hold down Ctrl + Alt + Shift when launching Illustrator and respond affirmatively when asked if you want to reset.

If the mac OS update you installed is Sierra you should be aware that CS3 is not officially supported to run correctly on that OS. That being said there is one other possible fix for a UI issue which is to delete your InDesign cache files. To do so: With InDesign closed launch a Finder Window in column view and click on your home folder. With the Option Key pressed choose Library from the Finder Go Menu. Within the Library folder find the “Caches” folder. Within the Caches folder find and delete the entire file “Adobe InDesign”. I find that deleting the cache file completely leads to a lasting change. This has worked for me before when things had disappeared from Panels.

Is it just happening for one file or for all? If it is happening for all then try deleting your Illustrator preferences. To do so: For Macintosh Users: With Illustrator closed launch a Finder Window in column view and click on your home folder. For Windows Users: Hold down Ctrl + Alt + Shift when launching Illustrator and respond affirmatively when asked if you want to reset. If it is happening to just one file try placing it in InDesign or opening it with Photoshop or Acrobat. If it opens in Acrobat try saving it as a pdf and then try opening it through Illustrator. If none of that works there are some paid services that may be able to recover files such as http://markzware.com/products/file-recovery-service/ .

I tested this in CC 2017 Illustrator and every way that I brought in the jpg it kept the resolution at the 300 ppi original. If this is not happening for you then you may need to either upgrade to CC 2017 (if you don't already have it) or reset your preferences. To reset preferences: For Macintosh Users: With Illustrator closed launch a Finder Window in column view and click on your home folder. With the Option Key pressed choose Library from the Finder Go Menu. What I've always done to see the lines I'm drawing while in the preview mode is to assign a .25 pt stroke and an arbitrary color to all of the lines that I'm drawing. After you're done all of the shapes you've drawn can have their actual strokes and fills assigned. You also will be able to see all of your lines by going into the artwork mode (Command/Control-Y).

In the screen shot below I created a pie chart using Illustrator's graph function. As you can see the pie is easily editable using the direct selection tool to pull each segment away from one another: If this is not working for you then you may need to reset your Illustrator preferences. I was able to replicate your process with the same result. Assuming that the blur you mentioned is 4 pixels and not .4 then it's possible that the Gaussian Blur is not working correctly in CC 2017 Illustrator. I do think that a possible workaround for using this piece of art in CC 2017 would be to add a drop shadow to the purple lettering (layer two) with an x and y offset of 2 pixels and a blur also of 2 pixels. The stroke on the top layer would then have its opacity set to 60%. The result should be pretty close to your original.

Make sure that you are selecting the single anchor point using the Direct-Selection Tool (the white arrow at the top of the tool panel). Pulling on that single selected point will move it anywhere you want it to go. If you want to move more than one point at a time hold the shift when selecting additional points.

You cannot thread table cells in InDesign. To accommodate excess text you can either set the cell height to a minimum value so that it will grow as the text increases or you can copy the excess text and paste it into another cell that is empty or has room for it. To copy the excess text from a cell place your cursor at the end of the visible text and use the keyboard command Shift-Command/Control-End and cut it (Command/Control-X). Then you can paste it wherever it will fit.

Yes. You can edit the smart object by double-clicking on the smart object icon in the Photoshop layers panel. It will bring you to a version of the original Illustrator file that has been embedded into the Photoshop file. Within that file you can make any change to the Illustrator file that you could do with the original. Once you hit save and close it you can click on the Photoshop file and the smart object will automatically update in the Photoshop file.

I'm not sure why it matters what the HSB and RGB values are as long as what you need is for your black to be C75 M68 Y67 K90. When I defined that CMYK in my Illustrator swatch panel and then filled a shape with it, copied and pasted it into Photoshop as a smart object it eyedroppered exactly as the color it was in Illustrator. If that is your final goal then the HSB and RGB shouldn't matter.

Using system fonts in a design job is not generally a good idea. Your best bet is to stick with OpenType fonts which work equally well on Mac and PC.

Your reply came up as I was writing the above comment. If you can actually see the font in the Document Fonts folder within your collected version then it may be something else. I would, however check with the font supplier.

I've just been able to replicate your problem. There are certain fonts that due to licensing restrictions do not get collected as active fonts. I believe that they are actually hidden in the Document Font folder but need special authorization from the font supplier to work. When I created a document that used the Cyrillic font which I had open on my system it worked correctly. I then did a collect and closed Cyrillic on my system and it all went pink (fonts not open). Check with your font supplier.

Open the Document Fonts folder from the packaged version and check to see if the size of the fonts has become 0k. This can happen when fonts are uploaded to some servers or cloud storage. If this is the problem then it can be solved by zipping the Document Fonts folder when sending it out (it needs to be done separately from zipping the entire package). The recipient will have to unzip it for use but it should work.

If your goal is to have the pages in the exact size that they will print in the pdf then exporting them as spreads with crop marks and then trimming the pages in Acrobat with the crop tool will accomplish that. Because even though your page size seems to be different for the spreads, InDesign actually has output the content at the same physical size that they are in the original file so trimming any excess Acrobat page will not affect their actual size. But you should be aware that print jobs are usually printed on paper larger than their trim and then cut to size. This is especially true when there is color or art that needs to bleed off of the page. Printers need an edge of the paper for their grippers and thus do not print to the edge of the paper. As Derek said different printers have different requirements but it has been my experience that jobs are not usually printed to size.
