Validating what…? That Photoshop can indeed open the TIF file… This would not be an ideal work flow… File open errors stop a script so you won't proceed past the first error found…

If you are talking about outputting just the 1 ai/pdf at a time then you can get the index of the active artboard… So as long as this was the case when the script was run… I thought you may be dealing with a multi-selection of artboards… alert(app.activeDocument.artboards.getActiveArtboardIndex()); In a quick test this worked fine… Don't forget its zero based… If you did select more than 1 artboard in the palette then it returns the first one selected…

You can't do this using the in built graph tool. The only method of graph items is duplicate an existing one. There is NO graph item creation. You can have a template file with a graph that uses data driven graphics but this means writing and importing .xml

You don't import it from library… You have to duplicate an art object with the style applied from one doc to the other. Unless you can find another way? I did look at 'open as library' which does open the doc as a palette but you still can't access the contents… They don't show up any where as either app or doc elements…

I would have to take a look… I would doubt it thou… Artboards are not something I've used very much as I jumped from CS2 to CS5 in the one go… Now it feels like a mountain to climb with so many things I need to either update or learn to use in the GUI first… I would expect the closest may be some sort of dialog with a list to select from. Illustrator revealing what's selected in it's own palettes may be too much to expect…

Thus far I have been tinkering with a few of these… What Im not able to find is there a method where I can read a file just the once to parse data for the key value pairs… All I can get back is 'String' no objects, arrays… At present I have to do this once for each and that seems like a lot of waste… time & repetitive code. My concern is while it works with small test files when they get larger it may be too slow to be of use… TVM

John, that would be the wrong test… When installing app's they bump the systems launch services preference. Opening files should look up this first for the latest version (This was a PITA when I had just installed the trial version)… Sure all the file icons get updated but the file type remains static… or so it appears to me…

This would be well outside what I script in PS but could you not just script the writing of 'random' value to arrays to file and then have PS read this as data? I've seen a post on this in this forum before now but that kind of stuff is not what I use PS for… You could also take a look at Jongware's .png generator script thats posted in the Indesign scripting forum… With these you should be able to use math to create new files…

I think the only way to make this possible is to use a trick by Carlos where you temp change the artboard bounding box to some area about your (x,y). After which an action could 'fit in window' but this would rule out using JS and only possible via AS & VB.

Expanding a tracing is possible because you can test a 'pluginIitem' for an 'isTracing' property first… I don't think you will get any joy as all other 'pluginItems' you can do zilch with most annoyingly path finder…

Search the forum I recall 'Steven' maybe using character code at 29 or 30 something. I did save myself this function but marked it 'Power PC Version' in my comments the off set must move Im now on Intel… Call that JavaScript from your AppleScript… or make the same out of AS.

From your other post I gather you are using VB? If that is the case their may be a VB command outside of the Illustrator DOM that you could use? (Carlos would probably tell you that)… Anyhow Illustrator offers no zoom to some bounds. It does have access to views but these need to be saved in the document script can't create n use a new view…

I would expect although I've not actually tried this for the bleed off set box to be larger than the artbaord and the first two values to be negative or 0… var bleedarray = new Array(-9,-9,artboard.width+9,artboard.height+9); Where 'artboard.width' & 'artboard.height' you will have calculated from your file. An Array(9,9,9,9); would not constitute any boxes bounds.
